Oct 10th, we are on our little getaway to Chincoteague Island NWR in Virginia. It is one of my favorite places to visit. We love the beach, all the birds and the Chincoteague ponies. We started the day with the sunrise at the beach and ended the day with the sunset over Tom's Cove.

Click on images for larger views.

1. A beautiful sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean and Chincoteague Island NWR.

2. Some photos taken from the car on the way to the beach, we saw a few Great Blue Herons, Double-crested Cormorant and a Belted Kingfisher.

3. Along the same road was a juvenile Little Blue Heron, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets and White Ibis.

4. The Chincoteague ponies are a highlight of this trip for me.

5. The Great Egrets were looking beautiful.

6. We saw large groups of Sanderlings on the beach.

7. Below are Chincoteague Scenes, the Assateague Island Lighthouse, Tom's Cove visitor center and boardwalk trail, American Oystercatcher.

8. I found a few butterflies, while walking on the Tom's cove trail, we saw a few Monarchs and the Common Buckeye.

9. Below are some of the birds seen along the wildlife drive, I was expecting to see more birds along this drive. Birds numbers are down, I could count all the birds I saw on the drive on my two hands.

10. The sunset at Tom's Cove with lots of Gulls flying around.

I hope you enjoyed these Kauai birds.

* Just a note, I am not sure how many of my blogging friends are fans of Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache books but I noticed Amazon Prime or Acorn will have a series called "A Three Pines" based on Penny's novels. It premieres on Dec 2nd. I already have her # 18 in the Gamache series on hold, it is called "A World of Curiosities" due out on Nov. 29th.

For my critter post, I have mostly birds and two cute furbabies we met while walking on the River to Sea Beach Park and near the Washington Oaks State Park.   Osprey eating a meal at the top of a light pole, Starlings and a nearby Hawk.

The Osprey watching the Starlings above on the pole.

We saw a lot of Sanderlings and Ruddy Turnstones.

Ruddy Turnstones on the coquina rocks near Washington Oaks State Park.

I am guessing at the id below, the Royal Tern.

Dogs just love hubby, we met these two goldendoodles while in Florida. They were cute and friendly.

Happy Thankful Thursday

 Happy Thankful Thursday!

Is Florida the sunshine state?  Washington Oaks State Park has a two parts. There is a beach area with the Coquina Rocks and the formal gardens.  We visited this park on Christmas Day, we walked on the beach and around the gardens. It was another 7 mile day.

When in Florida, you have to have a pretty day for a beach walk.  Yes, clear sunny skies did appear on our December trip.  I am thankful to see the sunshine.

Shorebirds landing on the Coquina rocks.

Tidal pools in the Coquina rock formations.

A pretty sky and Brown Pelicans.

The rocky Coquina Beach, Washington Oaks State Park.

The formal gardens at Washington Oaks State Park. Christmas decorations and trees, Monarch Butterfly, pond, Zebra Longwing, rose and iris. Our total miles walked on Christmas day was 7.2 miles. Most of the Garden walk was a loop trail at Washington Oaks, I think it was almost 4 miles and the rest of the walk was at the beach.

I am thankful for sunny skies on my vacations.
I am always thankful for the beauty all around me.
I am always thankful for your visit and comments.
Live simple and be happy!  😊

Blowing Rocks Preserve, Jupiter Florida

Hello and Happy Monday!

Jan 5th,  we visited one of my hubby's favorite places in Florida which was the Blowing Rocks Preserve near Jupiter Florida. We read about this preserve in one of our AAA magazines and knew we had to visit. It is a Nature Conservancy preserve, a protected section of limestone coastline. During high tides the waves crash against the rocks and force the water at times as much as  50 ft skyward.

This is the trail to the beach. The sea grape tree provide a shady walk to the beach.

A pretty day to be at the beach, calm ocean water.

The limestone rocky shore.

The Sanderlings were seen on all the beaches in Florida.

A lovely sky day, I enjoy watching the clouds.

These Ruddy Turnstones were begging for food from the fisherman on the beach.

The ocean has carved some interesting shapes and holes into the limestone rocks.

While hubby was enjoying watching the waves hitting the rocks, I was enjoying the pelicans flying by me.

A map of the preserve location in Jupiter Florida.

We also took a walk to see the nearby Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, Jupiter Florida

Thanks for your visit today!  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

These are photos from our short trip to Ocean City, Md and Assateague Nat'l Seashore.  I love seeing the wild ponies, we had some great sightings of the ponies and we also saw various birds.

We saw some of the horses while driving thru the campground. One horse walked up to the van's window, I think it was looking for food. We did not see it being fed, that is against the rules.

The Yellow-rumped Warblers were everywhere on the Assateague Island.

A closer look at the Yellow-rumped Warbler,

A Great Blue Heron

The Sanderlings were on the beach at Assateague.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments this past year !
