Santa's Shoebox

It's not that long to Christmas.... I already saw the first advert on TV this week so the countdown it on!!  And now is the perfect time to start planning, writing gift lists and just getting into the festive mood.

I've signed up to do this little project for Christmas.... it's a lovely way of giving back to someone in need.... why don't you check it out and find a child in your area to help... make someone's Christmas a little bit brighter!

Crate Paper Competition

Phew... talk about cutting it close.... I managed to scrap, scan and upload my layout all before the deadline of midnight tonight... okay about 8am tomorrow our time but that's just a technicality!  What am I talking about, I hear you ask.... well the competition at ScrapAttack Scrapbooking.... create a layout using Crate Paper and use the word CRATE in your layout somehow.... so here's what I did

So for my CRATE I came up with the following:

Carriages
Railway
Aaron (my son)
Trains
Engine drivers (Papa & Aaron)

But then had second thoughts, so decided it should is actually....
C- choo choo title
R - railway themed ribbon
A - apron lace punch
T - train punch
E - engine drivers

Anyway they both work for me!  Now just to hold thumbs.

EDITED:  Just found out that this layout got picked as {SAS}sy Star of the Day for 3/10/10.... wow I'm chuffed!

This month's madness

Boy oh boy but I think I will be glad when September is past..... please remind me next year NOT to do this to myself again!  Here's how crazy this month has been....

1. I signed up to do the following challenges:
a. ScrapU at Scrap-Friendzy
b. School at Scrapbook Nook
c. Sketch-a-thon at Sketches for All
d. Cosmo Cricket layout competition at ScrapAttack Scrapbooking
e. Design Team application at ScrapAttack Scrapbooking
f. September challenge at In2Crafts

2. I attended the International Scrapbook Convention

3. My family descended (on mass!) for all of last week so my scraproom got turned into a bedroom. And to compound the situation we had no water for 36 hours.

4. Made lunch for the whole family on Friday to celebrate my Mom's 70th birthday

5. I have 4 sketches to make layouts from for October for Nuts About Sketches

and you've guessed it.... it's the end of the month tomorrow and I'm NO WHERE near being able to do justice to ANY of the above.  Okay the family thing was a pleasure and is now over, but not scrapping for a week put a serious dent into all the above.

So what DID I manage to do I hear you ask?

a. ScrapU  - did 7 layouts, a few quizzes and a blog hop
b. School Nook - did 1 layout and three cards - I eventually flunked out!
c. Sketch-a-thon - made 3 cards
d. Finished all 5 of my layouts for ISE
e. Had fun bonding with my sister-in-law and nieces
f. Attended a funeral for a church friend's husband
g. Read two books
h. partially finished one NAS layout

So now I need to do the following in the next day or two....
a. Cosmo Cricket layout at ScrapAttack Scrapbooking - still to do before tomorrow!
b. Design Team application at ScrapAttack Scrapbooking - need to have 3 new layouts done and in by Sunday
c. September challenge at In2Crafts - need to do this by Monday
d. The rest of my NAS layouts
e. Try and complete some ScrapU layouts but very much doubt it
f. Try do more of the sketch-at-thon challenges.... all need to be finished by the 4th

Oh and in amongst all this there was school, school Talent Show, and now school holidays, so thankfully I have two weeks "mommy holiday" as I call it.  I also need to fit in a few visits with some friends.  So if I collapse in a heap and don't get around to googling, surfing, commenting or just plain answering.... you'll know why..... I'M EXHAUSTED!!!!

Just remembered too the cherry on the top.... my laptop crashing and being out of action the first week of September when I had to get organised for ISE.... thankfully I got it back just in time.  I now also have a brand new super duper extra big and fast desktop pc at work to play with.... so am copying data, installing programmes and just in general BEING BUSY!!!

Can I please stop now??????

Hope your month hasn't been quite as crazy.

SA Scrapbooking Convention 2010 Report Back

Last weekend I attended the SA Scrapbooking Convention and boy oh boy was it F-U-N!!!!  I had won a free ticket last year for my quilling entry in the papercraft competition and so with bags packed, photos printed and excitement at a high.. the weekend began.  It was great doing the classes with my friend Theresa.... we chatted, laughed, scrapped and won prizes together.

Saturday 11 Sept
Our first class was with Debby Schuh using product from October Afternoon....

We made a little mini album which unfortunately I can't show you as I haven't finished it yet... must find pics to put in it then I will show you.... I just love the use of the double sided papers... fold it, turn it, ink it and you have a whole new look! Theresa won a full pack of paper in a lucky draw in this class.

After tea we did a much more relaxed class with Nic Howard from Australia using Prima product.....

I was soooooooo chuffed as my photos matched the papers perfectly and I actually finished this page in class... an absolute first for me!

After a yummy buffet lunch... with awesome chocolate dessert we topped the day off with the class by Candice Greenway.... now this I think was definitely the highlight of the whole weekend for a lot of us!  I was super excited to be doing this class... learning how Candice puts her awesome layouts together and then making a masterpiece just like hers.

AND.... I won the clock that you see Candice holding... she had a "the first one up on your chair and dancing will win".... and there I was up and waving my arms... hehehe... little ol' introvert that I am!!!

I never saw the sketch for Candice's layout but had a vague idea what it would be so my photos actually went opposite to how they should, so I just swoped my left and right pages around and made it work... and I LOVE it.... thanks Candice for an absolutely awesome class.  We used Die Cuts with a View product in this class plus rubons that Candice had designed herself especially... and they are gorgeous!

And my clock is already up in my scraproom ticking away!

After these three classes there was then the charity scrap for Homestead... we had to buy a kit and then scrap a page... I like my page but must admit that the lady who won blew me away.... how do they come up with such awesome pages in such a short time?

Oh and there were lucky draws all through the evening and I won...

Then it was off home and to bed... not that I had tooooo much sleep as part of my brain just wouldn't switch off.

Sunday 12 September
Our first class of the day was with Tracie Hudson from the UK... she represented Sassafrass.
What can I saw about the layout that we did.... it is gorgeous!!!  And again my photos matched beautifully.
I just about finished this page in class... just had to do the stitching and add the title once I got home.

After morning tea... where unfortunately we missed out on the eats and barely got coffee.... we had the class with Jodi Sanford from Fancy Pants Design
What a lovely lady... and such a fun class too... Again my photos matched and I managed to just about finish the layout.

All through the day there were lots of lucky draws in the different classes with lovely product being given away... and I won a gorgeous set of stamps in the Fancy Pants class.

We again had a very yummy lunch.... though Theresa and I battled to find somewhere to sit at first!  Now on a rather full stomach we had our last class of the weekend... with Jeri Tanner from Bo Bunny

As much as I love Bo Bunny and their products I must say this class, at first glance, was a disappointment to me... the layouts weren't anywhere near the standard of the others.... but to make it work I changed things up a bit and now I'm chuffed with my layout

On the right side page of this layout there is a spinner wheel which, when turned, shows more photos and journalling.

There was a second layout in this class but I really really don't like it... just tooooooooooo much purple and lime green in it.... not me!!! So I won't be doing that one.

And that is the end of Convention for another year.  Who knows if I will go again... I would much rather volunteer... yes it's hard work but I actually enjoy it.

One thing I definitely will take from this year's Convention is how to use patterned paper different... so often I see a piece of paper I like and use it as my background in it's entirety.... well no more!  Cut it, tear it, roll it, distress it... but definitely use it!!

A huge thank you to Glenda and her team... and all the volunteers ... for their hard work in making this event the success it was.

Nuts About Sketches - Week 126

There is a new sketch up at Nuts About Sketches.... it's a double with lots of pics!

And then when I was searching for photos I found I didn't have enough printed to make the double.... sooooooo... decided to make two singles!  And here is what I did:

LHS - I turned this 90 deg

RHS - as is

Be sure to visit the blog and see what the rest of the awesome design team created.

Sketches: Creatively Yours... layout 15 & 16

With my laptop going down last week I didn't get to update my sketch design team work for Sketches: Creatively Yours.... apologies to Ali for the slipup.  So as a bonus... here is two week's worth of layouts for you to peruse!

First up is Sketch 47

And then it's on to Sketch 48

This layout includes a mini album that I made at the ISE Convention in 2006 with these sort of pictures in mind... well I eventually put it to good use.  Here are the pages from inside the booklet:

These are the tags that are in the pockets:

Thanks for looking... please go to Sketches: Creatively Yours and look at the other layouts that the team has done.

Bad news Good news

Nothing serious.... or too drastic... just PC woes!!!

My laptop with all my layouts, photos, sketches, etc, went belly up on Saturday night... right in the middle of skype... ouch! So now it's at the IT doc getting a full medical checkup and hopefully a fix. Once it is back I will then find all my lovely layouts to show you and you can drool....

By the sounds of things, I might even be getting a bigger, faster and super duper pc... work is going to be coming soon and I will need to start churning it out.  Fun things to look forward too!

And then there is a bit of good news too!!!  I won the August challenge at In2Crafts... yippee... with this page

and my prize is an awesome kit put together by Michelle at Homespun Scrapbooking... thanks Mich.

Nuts About Sketches - week 125

My first layout for the Nuts About Sketches design team is UP... and I'm chuffed with it...

Now head over to Nuts About Sketches and see mine there along with all the awesome layouts by the rest of the team.

Happy happy spring day to one and all..... and in celebration of spring I decided to make a card.

I was going to make this for a challenge on the American Crafts blog but just noticed I used the wrong range of paper :( silly me!!!  Anyway, I'm chuffed with my card!
