But the stereotype isn't a good fit. McCandless wasn't some feckless slacker, adrift and confused, racked by existential despair.
To the contrary: His life hummed with meaning and purpose. But the meaning he wrested from existence lay beyond the confortable path: McCandless distrusted the value of things that came easily. He demanded much of himself more, in the end, than he could deliver.

"I've decided that I'm going to live this life for some time to come. The freedom and simple beauty of it is just too good to pass up."
This book began as an article in the Outside magazine before Jon Krakauer had followed the story of the young Christopher McCanless who left his life behind and took his road Into the Wild immediatly after graduating, with honors, from Emory University in the summer of 1990, changed his name, gave the entire balance of a $24,000 savings account to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet.. He lived two years hiking, living his life as he wanted it to be before his dream took him to the alaskan wild, to Fairbanks bus 142 where he stayed for 112 days before he died of starvation by swainsoning poisoning, just an ennecent error took his life. "I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL!" was his goodbye note..

An amazing story was told by people met Chris on his road, friends he made and kept in touch with by letters and postcards were sent to them, his parents whose he was angry with, his sister who was his best friend and some journals he left and quotes in his books he highlighted.. The most impressive letter was his last letter to his 80 yo friend Ronald <3 Maybe he was crazy, maybe was just too romantic what I'm sure of is that I'm still impressed, he had a dream, at least he went after it even if he end up dead starving alone in the alaskan wild....more
