Maybe one day I'll manage to get my irritation under control enough that I can write an actual review...but today is not that day.
Not a SINGLE character was likable and instead of having to think about them to type out a review, I'd rather work towards erasing this book from my memory all-together.
Here's a bunch of gifs that summarize how I felt, instead:
I know we're getting an Erasmus spin-off, but I'm not ready to say goodbye to some of these characters just yet.
Okay, IT'S OVER!?!? SAY IT AIN'T SO.
I know we're getting an Erasmus spin-off, but I'm not ready to say goodbye to some of these characters just yet.
Okay, so as far as the review goes...I feel like my feelings towards our main couple versus my feelings towards the overall story/past couples need to be separated to effectively discuss the book.
While I think Phlox and Leon are very sweet and I enjoyed reading their scenes together, I wasn't completely invested the way I've been with past couples. Even though it's written strictly through their two POVs, I found I was more interested in everything going on outside of their relationship. Especially because theirs is a fated-mates type relationship, it kind of felt quick and like we didn't get enough time to really get invested in their romance before the overarching plot takes over the story. If I'm JUST rating their romance? 3 stars.
HOWEVER, all that shit goin' on in the background? Easily 5 stars. I loved the interactions between all the couples and how their individual personalities/talents stood out.
The only thing that I wish was different about this book was that - since there was a point in the book where it transitioned from Phlox & Leon's romance to being about everyone, I kind of desperately wish we got POVs from past characters in the second half of the book. ESPECIALLY SEDRICK AND PHIL OH MY GAWDDDDDD I would sell my soul to the devil to get more of those two and see those last few scenes through their POV. Actually, if I let myself be really real and really selfish, I want a version of this book written completely in their POV plus a little more at the end. I'm a perpetual victim of the first-couple-in-a-series bias but I don't even care. Phil & Sedrick > everything; fight me on it.
But, since those are all just musings of a desperate woman (it's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me), I'm not gonna count any of it against the book and just average out the two separate ratings I mentioned before. ...more

Brad is still balls deep in his Soft Boi Era™ (except for when he's in active labor lol), Raul is still the ever-adoring alpha, but the focus is very clearly shifting (hehe, pun) away from their love story. I'm excited to see the dynamic between Devon & Constantine and I'm kind of glad that the author kept most of it from us and saved it for their own series.
MY ONLY QUALM is that we were TEASED with the fact that male omegas can lactate, and yet, we never got to see Brad's flabbergasted (and I'm sure colorfully vulgar) reaction to seeing milk come out of his nips. Like, fine, he's a daddy now - but he's still BRAD.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite comfort series.

I looove this world!! Every time I pick up a Perfect Pixie book, I know I'm in for some serious cuteness and coziness paired with just the right amount of angst.
Parsnip and Vander are just as adorable as I expected and I'm SO HAPPY that our previous couples still play significant parts in the plot. Seeing all our pixies together made my heart so happy! Omg and Vander joining Sedrick and Lucroy's Partners of Pixies Support Group!? EEEEP, I LOVE THEM and I love how much they love their pixies.
The main plot was just as fun and engaging as the previous volumes but this time we also get quite a lot of subplot and background stuff - not to mention the hints at what's going to happen in the next book. I know it's probably not going to happen but I just want to put this out there: IF PHIL AND SEDRICK GOT ANOTHER BOOK/NOVELLA, I WOULD BE OVER THE FUCKING MOON There's stuff that happens in this volume that kiiiind of makes me feel like it's a possibility but I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up. Waaah, I just want more Phil so bad!!
While I (clearly) really loved this one, I do have some small critiques too. First off, there was a bit more...cheesiness to some of the dialogue than I'd like. Not a huge issue cause this is just a very fluffy series in general but it definitely toed the line of cringey this time around. Second, while I SOOO appreciate and love that as the series progresses, the characters are a little more open with their horniness for each other, I do wish that Parsnip and Vander had a little bit more of an emotional connection too. I get the whole "one and only" fated mate thing kind of makes up for it, but I do wish there were more "this is WHY you're my mate" moments.
Regardless, I'm super eager for the next book cause we're shifting over to FAIRIES. I've loved Ray's character since the first book, so I can't wait to see what happens with him and Wendall!
Pretty sure if you shook this book hard enough, cum would splatter out of the pages & lemme tell ya -Why think critically when I can think clitically?
Pretty sure if you shook this book hard enough, cum would splatter out of the pages & lemme tell ya -that's exactly what I was looking for. When I get that itch, no one but Roe knows how to scratch it juuust right. What makes it even better is that this is probably my new favorite of all of his books that I've read so far.
As always, the plot and world-building is fairly minimal but again, this is probably my favorite world that Roe has introduced us to. I loved the magic, the shifting, the lore - and the characters? UGH, I FUCKING LOVE WOLF AND BEAR but especially Wolf. His pouty, possessive, impatient ass had me wrapped around his clawed finger.
I truly see myself cumming coming back to this one for a reread when the mood (read: horniness) strikes....more

On paper, this book should be everything that I look for in a palate cleanser - MM, Mpreg, dragons!? Fucking sign me up. I was SO excited about the eggs! Now, the only thing that I wish could be cleansed is my BRAIN. With BLEACH. In the hopes that I can forget the time it took to get through this book and endure these INSUFFERABLE. ASS. CHARACTERS.
Let's get into it, shall we?
Nate, our resident omega, initially comes off as confident and sarcastic and sexy and somehow turns into the whiniest, most aggravating person & any inkling of a personality just vanishes. And SAME THING with Alistair. In their first interaction, he seems mysterious and hot and then suddenly, he's speaking all formal and weird and does HARDLY ANYTHING to explain to Nate WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. And APPARENTLY, him knowing FUCK ALL is true to character because we are reminded again and again and AGAIN what a fucking loser he is in the dragon world. WHY!?! Why is one of our MCs being constantly mocked and made to look like a two-bit moron?? There is NOTHING attractive or endearing about that! And those two TOGETHER? Omg, they hop between indifference, affection, and hostility like a fucking pinball machine.
And don't. even. get me started on Harry. If I had to choose one character in the history of ever that was the personification of NAILS ON A FUCKING CHALKBOARD it would be this annoying ass motherfucker.
And WHAT THE FUCK were the scenes of Alistair's brothers constantly walking in unannounced while they're having sex like we're in some poor attempt at a parodical Shakespearean play!?
Idk if it was the authors' goal to avoid any semblance of sensibility but this story is just so...ridiculous. And NOT in a good way. Listen, I've read many a book that are meant to be more fun than anything but there is a big difference between satire and juvenile absurdity. There's a place for everything if it's done right but the way the authors' chosen dramatization style mixed with this particular genre? Oil and water, babe.
Maybe it works for other readers but unfortunately, it didn't work for me at all. This falls right into the uncanny valley of serious vs. campy.
What really sucks is that the structure of the plot had SO MUCH POTENTIAL.
Ugh, I need to stop because any more time spent thinking about this book will drive me to smashing my head repeatedly against a brick wall....more

For the record, I'm not complaining; I can confidently say that this is my favorite of Roe's that I've read so far for that reason alone. But also, don't misunderstand me - we are still very much in the heart of Smut City, where cum rains from the skies and every store is dedicated to a different kink. If you're here for a PWP fix, I promise you'll still get your money's worth.
Lawrie & Ernest are adooooorable! I love the way their story unfolds and I especially love that even though it's a fated mates story, Lawrie reacts fairly realistically and, at first, is like "this is fucking crazy, I'm out." The way his character is written makes the "soulmate" thing waaay more palatable than it usually is for me. His sarcasm and sass carries the whole book and I fucking loved it.
I even really liked the background plot with Sullivan and Burnes - it added to the story and gave our MCs a lot more depth than these types of books usually provide.
Also, lover's milk!? Yeah, I fucks with it. ...more

Until that glorious day, I*Eternally waiting for the day I get abducted by sexy aliens that just wanna take care of me and rail me six ways to Sunday*
Until that glorious day, I guess I'll just have to settle for living vicariously through amazing stories.
In this particular story, Reuben gets abducted (lucky bastard) and shipped off to the planet of U'suhk which, while technologically primitive, is abundant in natural resources and sexy red lizard aliens (who, by the way, scratch my itchy lizard brain juuust right).
While this is a story that has been told before, Eryn Hawk makes it her own with bright and colorful characters and a fascinating world built on the wonderfully underutilized concept of: just having fun. From the physical attributes to the nomenclature (the pleasure planet F'ukyuu was a particular favorite of mine), she clearly just let her imagination run silly and rampant in the streets and I think the book was all the better for it.
I LOVE when a book feels like you've fallen into a character's stream of consciousness and are just here for the amusingly chaotic loop-de-loop ride. Partly because I particularly like it when authors drop all sense of propriety in favor of letting loose and partly because Reuben's entire inner dialogue sounds exactly like mine. I already enjoy when a book allows me to turn off my brain, so it's even more gratifying when that book's verbiage gives me a feeling of comfortable familiarity.
As far as the plot goes, it had everything that I could've wanted in an alien romance. It's traumatized-broken-boi meets hard-exterior-soft-interior alien with a cinnamon roll heart and y'all knoooow how I feel about broken bois (myyyy preeecciiouuuussss). Vo'ak was fucking adorable and I loved that he was emotionally intelligent & perceptive and not just a primal caveman. Though, his primal parts are nothing to scoff at either - you won't hear me complaining...especially when it comes to anything involving a knot.
If you're looking for all the fun and all the tropes (no thoughts, just vibes) - look no further.
Rating: 4.5 rounded up to 5!

I think the overall premise was really interesting. I liked the way the author spun vampireOkay, there's a lot to unpack with this one...
What I liked:
I think the overall premise was really interesting. I liked the way the author spun vampire lore and layered it with Greek mythology. I can't say that I've personally seen that done before so it was definitely fun to see how the two were tied together.
What I didn't like:
I think one of my bigger issues with this book can be summed up in a word: derivative. Oof, okay, I know that sounds bad but hear me out: We all know how hard it can be to come up with a unique plot/storyline and most (if not all) books are influenced by some other work, whether it be another book or other art form. And I don't think it's even an issue to see evidence of influence in a book - I just don't particularly like when it's a little too obvious.
The same thing can be said for the tropes in the book. The way that most of the scenes were set up - it's clear that the author had a certain outcome in mind for every scene in which the trope is revealed, but the plot and dialogue leading up to those scenes were blatantly obvious as to what was about to happen. I love typical tropes as much as the next person, but they should just blend into the plot. I shouldn't be able to clearly see the individual hidden structures beneath and the outline of the author's thought process. Show me the house, not the blueprint. So I guess what it really comes down to is execution. Amazing premise, but the execution was lacking.
Moving on to the characters. I'm gonna be honest, I had a lot of trouble getting invested in any of the characters but especially our FMC. I think Cas' character is given a wonderful base with her terminal illness and her clear interests/hobbies but when it came down to her personality - her thoughts & dialogue were lukewarm at best. Even with Damien and some of the side characters - idk, there was something missing for me? This is gonna sound so mean, but it feels like there was an attempt at joking/banter to show their personalities but it fell a little flat because of how obvious it was? Don't get me wrong, I was still somewhat invested in the characters, but it was fairly shallow investment. But there were a couple of side characters that I really grew to like, so I'm hoping we get to see more of them in the second book!...more

This is a silly, goofy book and I was in a silly, goofy mood the whole way through. It's OTT and frankly, fucking ridiculous, but I genuinely had so much fun and laughed out loud more than once. I probably laughed the loudest whenever there was an interaction like:

With a cover like that (+ all the expectations that come with typical OV just-for-fun books), I wasn't expecting a slow burn at all, but I actually kind of enjoyed it. There's something about the way the book ends that feels like it's the first chapter release of an ongoing manga; it's kind of nice and reminds me of back when I would read Shonen Jump every week like it was my religion.

Hmm, how to describe this book...it's Harry Potter meets X-men meets that one Piper Perri photo (iykyk) but take all of that and make it Wattpad.
I'll be honest, I'd (surprisingly) say I enjoyed this for the most part? It's not an amazing book by any means but it's not wholly terrible either.
The number of people who DNFed this book doesn't even remotely surprise me because you can tell right off the bat that the writing is fairly amateurish and juvenile. I was half tempted to stop by the end of the first chapter but alas, I have an incessant need to finish what I start so here we are. The writing style is where the "Wattpad" comparison comes into play - it reads like a mediocre fanfiction with a gratuitous amount of fanservice-y writing and over explaining. Not to mention the dialogue that, at certain times, becomes oddly formal and excruciatingly cringeworthy.
Actually, ya know what? I'm just gonna write a mini shit list of things I didn't like so I can get them out of my head and move on to the good stuff:
- Micah didn't seem have any true character development - something about the usage of the word "pussy" that gave me the ick - mild villainization of straight women - the "dweeb" thing? No. - I eventually grew to like (read: tolerate) Cade but his intro to the story with the whole Lola/dildo thing? Unnecessary and yucky. - plot was just okay
So, the things I liked?
I really liked the interactions between our four MCs - Zeke and Hyde, especially. I like how they all had a part to play and even though they're all glaringly different, the relationship between the four of them just works. Zeke is stinkin' adorable with his guileless smiles and open affection, Hyde is scarily sexy with a tough exterior but an ooey-gooey puppy dog center, and Cade...at least he knows how to grovel. If he wasn't literally on his hands and knees for Micah I would categorize him as irredeemable. Micah is okay too if you like characters that are the epitome of "being small is my defining personality trait".
What I really liked were the sex scenes. They seemed surprisingly well written but idk, maybe I'm just a horny horndog pervert who likes to read about four hot guys gettin' it on? *shrug*
Was I adequately entertained? Sure. Would I recommend this book to anyone? Probably not.
Yes, there's tons of similarities, but I think this book still has enough uniqueness to stand on its own. Overall, I enjoyed it bGay Twilight, indeed.
Yes, there's tons of similarities, but I think this book still has enough uniqueness to stand on its own. Overall, I enjoyed it but I didn't love it.
I did love Danny's character as a sassy ER nurse that is kind but takes no shit. And I eventually grew to really like Roman even after his very awkward/creepy initial meeting with Danny. I ADORE Soren; literally can't wait to read his story. Ngl, I'm kind of more excited to read about Soren than I was reading this one. However, I think I saw somewhere that this is the author's debut published novel so I'm keeping that in mind with any critique.
That said, let's get into what I didn't like so much. For one, the insta-love. I'm a big fan of insta-love when it's done right, but there was something about this that didn't quite do it for me. I get that they're fated mates, so that kind of allows the author to just jump right in, but I also kind of wish Danny fought it a little harder. He was shockingly accommodating to literally everything that was thrown at him. I get that he was affected by the mating bond thing too, but I think I would have believed it more if he wasn't immediately like "Cool!" to every new surprise.
I also think Danny and Roman should have been given a little more depth as individual characters. There was juuust enough backstory for the author to get away with, but I wish there were more defining qualities that we could pinpoint as to why they would fall for each other beyond paranormal intervention. Fated mates is fun but that can't be the only reason you're with each other. I wouldn't even be mad if the sexual attraction was one of the main things that brought them together but alas, the sex scenes were just okay.
As far as the writing goes, I think it was written really well (if a little repetitive). There were jokes that had me actually laughing out loud. I genuinely had a good time reading this and I'm looking forward to reading more of the series.
Thank fuck Soren's story is next cause I am seriously looking forward to it....more
