This week, thanks to a Make-A-Wish® UK nomination, I had the privilege of visiting the Microsoft UK office in London and gaining a unique perspective on the day-to-day operations of the CEO. I engaged in insightful discussions with multiple executives within Microsoft, particularly focusing on the role of Gen Z’s use of AI and how to apply this to the existing education system. A tour and demonstration of the innovative technologies housed within the Microsoft Technology Centre, including HoloLens, was truly remarkable. I was particularly impressed by the real-world use cases of this technology when paired with AI. I had the opportunity to learn from Early-in-Careers (EIC) staff in various roles within Microsoft, gaining valuable insights into the diverse roles and career paths within the technology industry. I had a great chance to discuss the application of AI in non-profit organisations and education, with the Tech for Social Impact leaders in Seattle. This exchange provided me with a great understanding of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the industry. I'm also delighted to share that, as a result of discussions held on this day, I'm going to be working with Microsoft and Make-A-Wish® UK to bring AI with Azure & Copilot to the Wish Journey, allowing Make-a-Wish as a non-profit to streamline its operations. This is a very exciting project with the potential to unlock new opportunities and I can't wait to get started with Jason Suckley and the team. As somebody who was eligible for a Wish myself due to my congenital heart condition, this is a cause that is very close to my heart. I would like to thank everybody at Microsoft & Make-a-Wish who made this day possible, and contributed it to it being a day I will always remember. Thank you to Clare Barclay, Soraya Scott, Keyonda Gallardo, Zane Freame, Charles Eales, Glen Robinson, Susannah Odell, William Holloway, Hugh Milward, Hannah Garland, Robson Smith, Liam Cox, Aaran L., Zarar Khattak, Ella Lukic, Jamie Endeley, Matt Thomson, Justin Spelhaug, Kate Behncken, Karen Bergin, Jeremy Pitman, Chad Caudle, Jill Nikolaisen Tennant, Minji Kim, Hannah Ashwell, Jason Suckley — and especially Craig Parker for organising and hosting such an exceptionally incredible couple of days.

As we release Microsoft’s 2024 Global Diversity & Inclusion Report today, we do so knowing this work is more important than ever before. In this era of AI, strengthening inclusion and removing barriers are central to how we move forward as a global society, so that every employee and ultimately every person has the access, opportunity, and skills to participate in the power and promise of technology. In this 11th year of sharing our progress toward diversity and inclusion, our clarity of purpose continues to be directly connected to our company mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. And as we approach our 50th anniversary, we are reminded that D&I has always been at the core of our business. I am energized by the areas where we have accrued progress—for example in representation at some senior leader levels for women and racial and ethnic minority groups, and by the new data and insights we share for the first time this year—such as global self-identification data for employees in the disability, military, and Indigenous communities. With some progress, we remain focused on hiring, developing, and retaining talent to close gaps and enable our workforce to thrive. I invite you to explore my new LinkedIn newsletter, Inside Inclusion, where I talk about progress, what it takes to do this work at a global scale, and how we prioritize the work ahead. You can explore the full report at https://aka.ms/DIReport I invite you to subscribe below for future insights!
