Paris CX
I was mooching about Paris last autumn with the Soviet when this caught my eye.
It's a really nicely executed Honda CX 500. I love its lack of pretension; it's just a simple, no-nonsense, urban street-scrambler perfect for hacking about in a big city. It's fit for purpose.
It retains its Honda forks, yokes, and wheels but all of the superfluous junk has been removed and replaced with a few well chosen upgrades such as the radial brake master cylinder and the dirtbike foot-pegs.
It's simple, stylish and tough and I'd love to have a go on it!

Bad Seeds
This...
I saw this a couple of months back and I thought it was just a funky render. It didn't look 'real' enough to be a plausible concept, it looked more like a fantasy photochop.
Well, apparently it's a real thing now and it's at the Bike Shed BSMC event in Paris...

Paris by Night of the Living Dead
I wouldn't be able to cope with my Buell during the zombie apocalypse. My nerves would be shattered!
Y'see, when you turn the ignition key, the fuel pump takes a couple of seconds to prime before the engine management light goes out. Then you press the start button, there's a crunch as the starter engages, then another pause as the battery works up the enthusiasm to turn the thing over before finally, it bursts into life with a lopsided beat.
Ain't no one got time for that...

Paris Moscow Beijing 92
I loved anything to do with rallying back in the early 90's. I dearly wanted a Marathon Africa Twin or a DR Big or a Super Ten but there was no way I could afford to buy one or insure it.
I still have a soft spot for anything with a big tank and a fairing.
I've watched this clip quite a few times over the years. But only now, it strikes me as funny how this looks so dated. There's a sort of innocence to it and it's giving me a bad case of nostalgia.

Diva
This 1981 French thriller is arguably one of the first Cyberpunk movies. The plot centers around information theft with a variety of parties all vying for possession of a couple of cassette tapes and the data contained therein. One tape contains evidence of murder while the other contains the only extant copy of a performance by an opera singer who refuses to be recorded.
Many of the tropes of cyberpunk are present. Technology, data-theft, Yakuza type gangsters, Mirrorshades, a geeky protagonist, an attractive side-kick and a psychopathic punk killer.
The central character, Jules, is a mailman - a similar role to protagonists, YT in Neil Stevenson's Snowcrash and Chevette in William Gibson's Virtual Light. He is a solitary Otaku character, comfortable with information technology and obsessed with a reclusive opera star.
It's a very stylish movie and can be difficult to follow. It's not actually a sci-fi movie but does have a futuristic feel to it and towards the end, it shifts into a Moebius-like fantasy.
It seems to me to that William Gibson, Neal Stevenson and Katsukiro Otomo (Akira) may well have seen it and been inspired.
In any case, there's a fantastic moped chase through Paris - Which is the real subject of this post...
