🍓This strawberry-shaped beret was one of the first patterns I ever created. More than
10 years have passed since then, and with the knowledge I have now, I felt it was the

perfect time to refresh it.

If you purchased this pattern when I first released it, I sincerely thank you. I hope you

enjoy this improved version. ❤️

Gauge and Measurements

Gauge:

For this project, gauge is not very important, since we will be measuring as we go.

Key Measurements:

The most important measurement you need is your head diameter. To get this,

measure your head circumference and use a diameter calculator to find the

number. In my case, this was 18 cm (7 in).

Abbreviations

● dc = double crochet
● Fdc = Foundation double crochet
● MR = Magic Ring
● Fsc = Foundation single crochet

Step-by-Step Instructions
Beret Body
1. Make a MR and work 8 sc into it. (R 1, 8 sts). PM in the first St to mark the

beginning of the R and move it to the first stitch of each new round.

2. Continue crocheting in a circle, making 1 inc in each sc. (R 2, 16 sts).

3. From this round onwards, you will gradually increase the space between

inc. Work 1 sc, inc (R 3 24 sts), and in the next round, 2 sc, inc (R 4, 32 sts).

4. Rnd 6 will be worked without increases.

5. Continue this sequence—5 rounds with increases and 1 round

without—until your circle measures 10 cm (4 in) more than the

circumference of your head. This will give the beret a little volume.
*TIP: To avoid having straight edges on your circle, mark 8 evenly spaced
points around the perimeter. Then alternate your increases: in one round,
place them directly over the stitch markers, and in the next round, place
them in between the markers. This will help your circle grow in a more
rounded and even shape.
6. Once you have reached the desired diameter, crochet 3 rounds without

increases to add depth to the beret.

7. Next, start the decrease rounds: make 8 dec. per round, spaced evenly

(you can use the previous increase Sts as a guide).

8. Continue working decrease rounds until the circle is 3 cm smaller than

your head circumference, or until you feel it fits comfortably (remember

that crochet stretches when worn).

9. All that’s left is to block your beret to give it a more uniform shape and

weave in the ends.

Leaves
1. Start with a magic ring (MR) and make 6 sts. Leave a long enough tail to

crochet a stem at the end.

2. Continue crocheting in the round, making 1 inc. in each sc. (Rnd 2, 12 sts)

3. Follow the diagram below to make a total of 6 leaves.

*I’ve added a tutorial by @naztazia so you can learn how to make Fdc and
Fsc stitches.
4. With the yarn tail you left at the beginning, pull it through the center of the

MR and ch 4.

5. Skip the first chain, work 3 sc and join them to the center of the leaves.

6. Block your leaves and weave in the ends.

Finishing
Now you should have a beret, some leaves, and a bit of white yarn in your hands.

Let’s turn this into the sweetest beret in the world!

1. Using the white yarn, starting about 2 cm (1 in) from the center of the

beret, embroider small “V” stitches from the inside out, spreading them in

an organic, evenly spaced pattern across the surface. Only a small portion

of the yarn, about the size of a sc, should be visible.

*To make the embroidery more orderly, try stitching in a spiral pattern.
2. Once you finish decorating your strawberry, tie a knot and weave in the

yarn tail, making sure it doesn't show on the outside.

3. Now, with the green yarn, attach the leaves to the top of the beret. You can

sew them only at the center so they move freely, or stitch them all around

to fix them in place — it’s totally up to you!

4. Weave in all loose ends and your beret is ready to wear! 🍓

Don’t forget to block your project — it will help you shape it just the way you

want.
