PATTERN DETAILS
This vest is uniquely constructed from bottom up, with both flat and in-the-round knitting. It is intended to be worn
with approximately 3-6.5” / 7.5-16.5 cm of positive ease.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9)

Finished Circumference at Bust: 93.5 (103.5, 113.5, 124, 134) (136, 146, 156, 166.5) cm / 36.75 (40.75, 44.75, 48.75,
52.75) (53.5, 57.5, 61.5, 65.5)”

Gauge: 20 sts and 24 rows = 4”/10cm in Stockinette Stitch in the round on size 4.5mm (US 7) needles (measurement
taken after blocking)

MATERIALS
All materials can be found and purchased at The Knitting Loft

Yarn: DK and Lace weight are held double throughout project

Rowan Felted Tweed (175m/191yds – 50g)


50% Wool, 25% Alpaca, 25% Viscose
Colour: Avocado
3 (4, 4, 5, 6) (6, 7, 7, 8) balls
573(665, 750, 853, 961) (1030, 1149, 1274, 1386) yds. / 524(608, 686, 780, 879) (942, 1051, 1165, 1267) met.

CaMaRose Manestrale (200m/219yds – 25g) This yarn has sparkle


68% Alpaca, 16% Nylon, 12% Merino, 4% Polyester
Or you can replace it with:

CaMaRose Midnatssol (200m/219yds – 25g) This yarn does not have Sparkle
54% Baby Alpaca, 36% Tencel, 10% Merinould

Colour used in Pattern: Citrongul

Needles:
• 4mm (US6): 24”/60cm and 40”/100cm circular needles (known as smaller needle)
• 4.5mm (US7): 24”/60cm and 40”/100cm circular needles (known as larger needle)

Tools/Accessories:
• Stitch holders or waste yarn
• Stitch marker
• Tapestry Needle
NOTES
Vest Construction

The vest pattern starts at the hem, each being knit separately for a split style. Once ribbing is complete, the body is
then joined and worked in the round until armholes. The remainder of the vest is knit flat, and then grafted together
using 3 Stitch Bind Off or Kitchener Stitch for the shoulders. To finish the look, both the arm holes and neck line are
picked up and a few more rows are knit for a rolled hem.

INSTRUCTIONS
STITCH REFERENCE

Stockinette Stitch
When knitting in the round: Knit every round
When knitting flat: Knit one row, purl one row

Half Twisted Rib:


Row 1 (RS): *K1tbl, p1* across row.
Row 2 (WS): Repeat Row 1
Continue repeating these 2 rows.
3 Needle Bind Off: Place both right sides together. Back stitches on first needle, front stiches on second needle.
With the third needle, insert the needle through the first stitch on front needle and first stitch on back needle. Wrap
your working yarn and knit these two stitches together. Repeat on second stitch front and back. Now slip first stitch
over second stitch. You have one stitch bound off.

Continue in this way until you have all stitches bound off.

Kitchener Stitch: Place both wrong sides together.


Setup: Insert tapestry needle into front stitch as if to purl (pull thread through, leaving stitch on needle) Insert
tapestry needle into back stitch as if to knit (pull thread through, leaving stitch on needle)
Start: Insert tapestry needle into front stitch (as if to knit, pull thread through and drop that stitch) (now insert the
tapestry needle as if to purl on front stitch as well, leaving that stitch on the needle)
Insert tapestry needle into back stitch (as if to purl, pull thread through and drop that stitch) (Now insert the tapestry
needle as if to knit on back stitch as well, leaving that stitch on the needle)
Continue back and forth until you have all the stitches off the needle.

START:

HEM (FRONT & BACK)

Hem 1

Using smaller 24”/60cm needles, cast on 92 (102, 112, 122, 132) (134, 144, 154, 164) sts
Work in Half Twisted Rib for 5 cm / 2”
Cut yarn and set these sts to the side (leaving them on the needles) or place on holder.

Hem 2

Using smaller 40”/100cm needles, cast on 92 (102, 112, 122, 132) (134, 144, 154, 164) sts
Work in Half Twisted Rib for 5 cm / 2”
DO NOT CUT YARN

JOIN FRONT & BACK

We will now be joining the front and back hems to begin working in the round.

Using the smaller 40”/100cm needles, (with yarn still attached) continue Half Twisted Rib across 92 (102, 112, 122,
132) (134, 144, 154, 164) sts. then join 92 (102, 112, 122, 132) (134, 144, 154, 164) sts from Hem 1 and continue
across with Half Twisted Rib. PM for BOR and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the pieces when
joining. You now have 184(204, 224, 244, 264) (268, 288, 308, 328) total sts.

Knit 1 round.

BODY

Change to the larger 40”/100cm needles.

Work stockinette stitch in the round until work measures 25 (26, 26.5, 27.5, 28) (28.5, 29, 30, 30.5) cm / 10 (10.25,
10.5, 10.75, 11) (11.25, 11.5, 11.75, 12)” from the cast on edge.

Note: If you desire a longer vest, add 2.5-7.5 cm / 1-3”. Please be aware that adding length may affect yardage
requirements.
DIVIDE FRONT & BACK

Knit 92 (102, 112, 122, 132) (134, 144, 154, 164) sts for the front panel. Place remaining 92 (102, 112, 122, 132) (134,
144, 154, 164) for back panel on a holder.

Turn work and purl one row.

FRONT DECREASES

You will be working flat in stockinette from this point. Decreases are always on the right side of your work.

Row 1 (RS): K1, K2togtbl, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, K1 (2 sts decrease)
Row 2 (WS): Purl
Repeat these 2 rows 7(11, 15, 18, 22) (21, 26, 29, 33) more times.
New stitch counts 76(78, 80, 84, 86) (90, 90, 94, 96)

CONTINUE WORKING FRONT

Row 1 (RS): Knit.


Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Work these two rows 9(7, 4, 3, 1) (5, 2, 2, 0) more times.

FRONT RIGHT SHOULDER

Row 1 (RS): Knit 23 (23, 24, 24, 25) (26, 26, 27, 28) sts. (Place remaining sts on hold)
Row 2 (WS): Purl

Work these two rows a total of 8(8, 8, 8, 8) (8, 8, 7, 6) more times.

Cut yarn and place on hold.

FRONT LEFT SHOULDER

Return the 23 (23, 24, 24, 25) (26, 26, 27, 28) sts.

Join yarn with RS facing.

Row 1 (RS): Knit


Row 2 (WS): Purl

Work these two rows a total of 8(8, 8, 8, 8) (8, 8, 7, 6) more times.

Cut yarn and place on hold.

Note: Leave centre 30(32, 32, 36, 36) (38, 38, 40, 40) sts on hold for front neck.

BACK

Return 92 (102, 112, 122, 132) (134, 144, 154, 164) sts. To larger needles.
Join yarn with RS facing. You will be working back and forth across the row.

BACK DECREASES

Decreases are always on the right side of your work.

Row 1 (RS): K1, K2togtbl, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (2 sts decreased)
Row 2 (WS): Purl
Repeat these 2 rows a total of 7(11, 15, 18, 22) (21, 26, 29, 33)
New stitch counts 76(78, 80, 84, 86) (90, 90, 94, 96)

CONTINUE WORKING BACK

Row 1 (RS): Knit


Row 2 (WS): Purl

Work these two rows 14 (12, 9, 8, 6) (10, 7, 6, 3) more times.

BACK LEFT SHOULDER

Row 1 (RS): Knit 23 (23, 24, 24, 25) (26, 26, 27, 28) sts (Place remaining sts on hold)
Row 2 (WS): Purl.

All sizes work these two rows 2 more times.


Cut yarn and place on hold.

BACK RIGHT SHOULDER

Return 23 (23, 24, 24, 25) (26, 26, 27, 28) sts onto needle, join yarn with right side facing you.

Row 1 (RS): Knit.


Row 2 (WS): Purl.

All sizes work these two rows 2 more times.

DO NOT CUT YARN

Note: Leave centre 30(32, 32, 36, 36) (38, 38, 40, 40) sts on hold until it’s time to knit neck edge

GRAFT SHOULDERS

You can choose to use 3 Needle Bind Off (Right sides of shoulders facing each other)
or
Kitchener Stitch (Wrong sides of shoulders facing each other)

NECK

Using smaller 24”/60cm needles, with right side facing you, pick up 18(18, 18, 18, 18) (18, 18, 16, 14)sts along the left
shoulder, 30(32, 32, 36, 36) (38, 38, 40, 40) sts on hold from front neck, 18(18, 18, 18, 18) (18, 18, 16, 14)sts along
right shoulder, 30(32, 32, 36, 36) (38, 38, 40, 40) sts along back neck on hold.

Place marker to mark BOR.


Stitch Count 96(100, 100, 108, 108) (112, 112, 112, 112)

Knit 2 rounds.
Bind off all sts loosely

ARMHOLE

Using smaller 24”/60cm needles and right side facing you, pick up 70(76, 78, 84, 90) (98, 102, 108, 110) sts
Place marker for BOR and join to work in the round.

Knit 2 rounds.
Bind off all sts loosely
Repeat for second armhole.

FINISHING

Weave in ends, (recommended to not cut ends until vest is blocked and dried).
