Biography

Ocarina of Time

Main article: Darunia

The Sage of Fire is one of the Six Sages that awaken whenever the Sacred Realm is threatened.[4] An ancient Sage of Fire helped Rauru and the other Sages create the Temple of Time during the Era of Chaos.[5] Once Link awakens from his seven-year seal, Rauru tasks him with helping awaken five new Sages, including the Sage of Fire.[6]

When Link arrives in Goron City, he is informed that Darunia, the Goron Chief, left for the Fire Temple in an attempt to save the rest of the Gorons from being eaten by Volvagia.[7][8] Inside the Fire Temple, Darunia recognizes Link and reveals his plan to face Volvagia alone, despite not having the Megaton Hammer.[9] While he does so, he asks Link to free the captured Gorons.[10]

After Link defeats Volvagia, Darunia appears before him in the Chamber of Sages, where he thanks him for helping save the Gorons.[11] Darunia then reveals that he has awakened as the Sage of Fire.[12] He grants Link the Fire Medallion, which he claims contains both the power of Fire and his friendship.[13][14] As Link leaves, Darunia reminds him that they are now true brothers.[15]

Alongside the rest of the Six Sages, Darunia uses his power to construct the Rainbow Bridge, which allows Link to access Ganon's Castle.[16] Later, Darunia appears in the Fire Room once Link has destroyed the Fire Barrier, and he urges Link to hurry.[17] Once Ganon has been defeated, Darunia and the other Sages use their power to seal him in the Evil Realm.[18] During the Credits, Darunia, Saria, Princess Ruto, Nabooru, and Impa gather together on Death Mountain. Saria can be seen sitting on Darunia's shoulders as the group overlooks Hyrule.

Twilight Princess

The Sage of Fire is a member of the Six Sages. As a Sage, they were tasked by the Golden Goddesses with guarding the Mirror of Twilight in the Mirror Chamber.[19] The Sage of Fire was present at the Failed Execution of Ganondorf, where they assisted the other Sages in activating the Mirror of Twilight to banish Ganondorf to the Twilight Realm.

When Link and Midna find the shattered Mirror of Twilight, the Sage of Fire appears alongside the other Six Sages. The Sage of Fire asks Link and Midna to lsiten to them.[20] The Sages claim that Ganondorf's power, which had been passed on to Zant, was able to shatter the Mirror of Twilight.[21][22] They then reveal where the three Mirror Shards can be found: the Snowpeak Ruins, the Temple of Time, and the City in the Sky.[23] However, the Sages also warn them of the power contained in the Mirror Shards.[24]

Once the Mirror of Twilight is repaired, the Sage of Fire and the remaining Sages appear once more, blaming themselves for Ganondorf's power taking over the Twilight Realm.[25] They ask for Midna's forgiveness, acknowledging her as the true ruler of the Twili.[26] As Link and Midna enter the Twilight Realm, the Six Sages disappear.

The Sage of Fire's Secret Stone

The Sage of Fire during the Era of Foundation was Agraston. After receiving the Secret Stone of Fire, he became one of the Six Sages and swore a vow of loyalty to Rauru, the first King of Hyrule.[2][27] He and his fellow Sages fought Demon King Ganondorf with Rauru during the Imprisoning War, where they witnessed Rauru's sacrifice to seal the Demon King.[28] Following this, Zelda visited Agraston at the Fire Temple.[29] She revealed that the Demon King would one day break free, and she asked Agraston to ensure that the Gorons would help Link fight him in the future.[30] Agraston promised that a new Sage of Fire would awaken in the future to fight beside Link.[31]

Agraston's voice can be heard by his descendant Yunobo and Link during the Main Quest "Yunobo of Goron City", beckoning them to the Fire Temple.[32][33][34] After the two of them defeat Marbled Gohma and interact with Agraston's Secret Stone, he appears before them and introduces himself.[35] He reveals that Marbled Gohma was deployed by Demon King Ganondorf to prevent Yunobo from awakening as a Sage, at which point he relays the story of the Imprisoning War.[36] Afterwards, he asks Yunobo to fulfill his promise to Zelda by taking up his mantle as the Sage of Fire.[37]

Initially, Yunobo is nervous, believing he is unable to live up to the former Sage of Fire's legacy.[38] However, he realizes that he will be failing Hyrule if he refuses his destiny, so he accepts the Secret Stone and his title as Sage of Fire.[39] To show off his new powers, Yunobo summons his Sage Avatar.[40] Bumping his fist with Link, Yunobo makes the Vow of Yunobo, Sage of Fire, which allows Link to call on Yunobo's Sage Avatar.[41][42] When Link approaches Gloom's Origin, Yunobo will appear to fight alongside him as the Sage of Fire.[43] After the Demon King's Army is defeated, Yunobo will stay behind to battle another Marbled Gohma summoned by the Demon King, allowing Link to push forward.[44] He later rejoins Link to fight Demon King Ganondorf,[45] but he is soon after attacked by a wave of Gloom and rendered unconscious.

In the post-Credits scene that plays after awakening all five Sages, Yunobo accompanies Zelda, Link, Purah, Tulin, Sidon, and Riju as Mineru shows them the Temple of Time. As Mineru disappears, the remaining Sages swear a vow of loyalty to Zelda and Hyrule, similar to the one their ancestors made.[46]
