"Yunobo of Goron City" is a Main Quest in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]
Overview
As part of the "Regional Phenomena" Main Quest, Purah asks Link to investigate strange happenings caused by the Upheaval throughout Hyrule in an effort to find Princess Zelda.[2] After "Tulin of Rito Village" has been completed, she suggests Link visit Goron City next, since it is closest to their location at Lookout Landing.[3]
In Goron City, Link will find that all of the adult Gorons focused on eating Marbled Rock Roasts, ignoring everything else. Bludo, Slergo, and Offrak are standing over Krane, disappointed that he has given into the temptation of Marbled Rock Roast.[4] Slergo and Offrak realize that the Marbled Rock Roast mined by YunoboCo is the cause of the Gorons' altered behavior.[5] However, their conversation is interrupted by Yunobo, who wonders what they are talking about.[6]
As Yunobo approaches the group, the Weird Mask can be seen covering his part of his face. He notes that they are talking about Marbled Rock Roast, and while looking at Krane, he insists that there is nothing wrong with it.[7] He then demands that Slergo and Offrak stand next to him,[8] causing the two children to fearfully run to his side. Finally noticing Link, Yunobo aggressively asks what he wants.[9]
Yunobo claims that since Link is so small, he did not see him at first.[10] Bludo is angered by this statement, asking Yunobo how he could speak to a guest in such a way.[11] Claiming that Bludo does not know his place, Yunobo asks Slergo who runs Goron City.[12] When Slergo reveals that YunoboCo does,[13] Yunobo then asks Offrak who is in charge of YunoboCo.[14] Offrak states that Yunobo is,[15] Yunobo claims that this proves Bludo is no longer needed in Goron City.[16] While Bludo tries to argue in his favor,[17] Yunobo cuts him off by asking Link why he has come to Goron City.[18]
Upon hearing Link's story, Bludo is shocked to hear the Zelda is still missing.[19] When Bludo mentions her blond hair,[20] Slergo and Offrak state that Yunobo has been meeting with a blond-haired lady to discuss Marbled Rock Roast.[21] Yunobo becomes panicked and orders the two of them to stop talking.[22] Claiming that Goron City is peaceful, Yunobo refuses to help search for Zelda and tells Link to leave.[23] When Yunobo decides to go meet with the woman,[24] Bludo attempts to threaten him not to bring back more Marbled Rock Roasts, but he is interrupted by his back pain flaring up.[25] Yunobo mocks Bludo, taking Slergo and Offrak with him to YunoboCo HQ.[26] After the three of them roll off, "Yunobo of Goron City" will officially begin.
Near YunoboCo HQ, Link can find Slergo and Offrak standing in front of YunoboCo Storage. They recognize Link from their earlier encounter,[27] revealing that Yunobo is currently speaking to the blond-haired woman and has barred entry to the Storage.[28] The two children voice how upset they are with what has been happening,[29] claiming that Yunobo turned mean after receiving the Weird Mask from the woman.[30] Since Link is friends with Yunobo, Offrak states he will let him into the Storage if he promises to have Yunobo stop mining Marbled Rock Roasts.[31] If Link agrees to try, Slergo and Offrak become excited by the prospect of Goron City returning to normal.[32] If Link is not wearing any Flame-Resistant Equipment, they warn Link that the interior of YunoboCo Storage is a dangerous Scorching Climate.[33]
Inside YunoboCo Storage, Link can find Yunobo talking with a woman resembling Zelda. Using his Power of Fire, he breaks a nearby Gloom Rock, causing several Marbled Rock Roasts to fall to the ground. Offrak and Slergo attempt to convince Yunobo to stop and take off the Weird Mask,[34] While Yunobo is initially moved by their pleas,[35] the woman says something, and Yunobo writhes in pain as the Weird Mask starts to glow. When he opens his eyes again, they will be glowing similar to those of Gorons under the effects of Marbled Rock Roast. He insists that the woman is right and that everyone who eats Marbled Rock Roast is happy.[36] Yunobo then proceeds to attack Link.
After breaking the Weird Mask during their battle, the glow fades from Yunobo's eyes. Although Yunobo is confused,[37] Slergo and Offrak happily run up to him. Yunobo claims that his memory is blurry from the time he put on the Weird Mask, and he wants to try to demand an explanation from Zelda.[38] Yunobo spots her at the entrance to YunoboCo Storage,[39] but a Gloom Rock cave-in blocks the way, forcing Yunobo to shelter Slergo and Offrak. After assuring Link, Slergo, and Offrak are uninjured,[40] Yunobo hears a strange sound calling to him.[41]
Slergo is shocked that the woman was Princess Zelda,[42] and Yunobo insists he needs to talk to her about the Weird Mask and Marbled Rock Roast.[43] Since the only way to break the Gloom Rocks is by using his Power of Fire, Yunobo asks Link to guide his charge.[44] Once Link and Yunobo destroy the Gloom Rocks blocking the entrance, he takes Slergo and Offrak with him to search for Zelda.[45]
Outside YunoboCo Storage, Yunobo looks around for Zelda but is unable to find her.[46] Though he is initially shocked to see Gloom spouting from the top of Death Mountain,[47] Slergo and Offrak remind him that he went to investigate it after the Upheaval began.[48] Offrak then states that Yunobo came back from this trip wearing the Weird Mask.[49] From their story, Yunobo is able to recall that he met Zelda at the Death Mountain Crater and received the Mask.[50] Slergo wonders if Zelda lives inside Death Mountain,[51] which makes Yunobo think they could potentially find her there.[52] Yunobo declares that he is going to go look for her there, and he tells Slergo and Offrak to wait for him at Goron City.[53] He then requests that Link join him in his search.[54]
As Link and Yunobo approach the top of Death Mountain, Yunobo starts to guide him and rolls ahead.[55][56] When Link catches up to Yunobo, he reveals that this is where he saw Princess Zelda, but he has trouble remembering what happened after he was given the Weird Mask.[57] At that moment, Death Mountain begins to rumble, and the pair spot Zelda at the Crater's edge.[58] Yunobo tries to convince her to turn back, but they lose sight of her as Gloom begins to rise from the ground.[59] Following an eruption of Gloom, Moragia rises from the Crater. Yunobo is initially shocked by its appearance, but he asserts that they must defeat it to keep Zelda safe.[60] However, he is unable to charge at it due to how high up it is and asks Link if he knows what to do.[61]
Using a nearby Zonai Vehicle, which is constructed of a Wing, a Steering Stick, Fans, and Batteries, Link and Yunobo are able to take flight and approach Moragia's heads. When they are in range of one of the heads, Link is able to launch Yunobo towards it, causing it to crumble. Once all three heads have been defeated, the molten rock covering the Death Mountain Chasm will collapse.[62] Noticing the Chasm nearby, Yunobo wonders if Princess Zelda could have fallen into the Depths.[63] Worrying for her safety, Yunobo decides he and Link should go after her.[64] Yunobo then jumps into the Chasm, assuring Zelda that they are on the way.[65]
At the bottom of the Death Mountain Chasm, Link will find himself near the Mustis Lightroot in the Death Mountain Depths, which is surrounded by ancient ruins. Speaking to Yunobo, he is surprised that this is what the interior of Death Mountain looks like, noting how many Gloom Rocks there are.[66] He then wonders why Zelda would be down here.[67] Once again, Yunobo and Link hear the strange sound,[68] and this time, they are able to discern a voice telling them to come to a structure in the distance.[69] Since the voice may be related to Zelda's location, Yunobo decides that they should follow it.[70]
When Link and Yunobo arrive at the structure, it is revealed that they have been traveling through Gorondia to reach the Fire Temple.[71] As they approach, Yunobo wonders if this is the source of the voice and rolls ahead.[72] When Link catches up with him, Yunobo asks why such a ruin is inside Death Mountain.[73] Seeing Zelda near the Gloom Rock blocking the entrance, Yunobo attempts to reach her.[74] However, by the time he runs up to the entrance, she will be gone.[75] Inside the Fire Temple, Link and Yunobo find Zelda inside a locked chamber.[76] However, the Gloom Rocks surrounding her suddenly rise up, trapping her against the ceiling. Upon seeing this, Yunobo declares that they must help her.[77]
When Link uses the nearby Terminal, the Fire Temple's Travel Point will become active. The gate to the chamber will also attempt to open itself, but its five Locks prevent it from doing so.[78] The voice then speaks to Yunobo and Link again,[79] revaling that they must unlock the five Locks in order to access the chamber.[80] Yunobo wonders who the voice could be and why they refer to him as "young, little rock."[81] Ultimately, Yunobo decides they can trust the voice, since it told them how to move forward.[82]
The Locks can be deactivated by using Yunobo's Power of Fire to hit the five corresponding Gongs. As Link and Yunobo unlock the Locks, Yunobo will keep track of how many are left.[83][84][85][86] Once all of the Locks are undone, Link will be able to open the gate.[87] Inside the innermost chamber of the Fire Temple, Yunobo tells Link to direct his Fire to destroy the Gloom Rocks on the ceiling and save Zelda.[88] When he does, however, Zelda is nowhere to be seen.[89] Instead, a large eye appears on the ceiling,[90] and Marbled Gohma crashes to the floor below. Yunobo thinks that Zelda may be trapped inside the Boss.[91] He states that they must save Zelda,[92] and the battle will begin.
After defeating Marbled Gohma, a Heart Container will appear in the center of the room, and a Secret Stone descends from the ceiling. While Yunobo stares at the Secret Stone, it suddenly shrinks and zooms right in front of him. When he touches it, he and Link will be engulfed in light, and the Spirit of Agraston, the Sage of Fire appears before them, once again referring to Yunobo as a "little rock".[93] Yunobo recognizes that he is the source of the voice that has been calling out to them.[94] Agraston reveals that he is Yunobo's distant ancestor, and in the past, he served the first King of Hyrule Rauru as a Sage.[95] He is impressed by Yunobo's practice of using his own body as a weapon, referring to him as the pride of the Gorons.[96] Agraston then claims that Marbled Gohma was created by the Demon King Ganondorf in an attempt to prevent Yunobo from obtaining his Secret Stone.[97]
At Yunobo's confusion,[98] Agraston decides to show him a vision of the Imprisoning War.[99] In the early days of Hyrule, the Demon King Ganondorf attempted to conquer the kingdom, but Rauru and the Six Sages joined together to face him.[100] Rauru gave the Sages their Secret Stones to amplify their powers.[101] Although they were unable to defeat the Demon King, Rauru sacrificed himself to seal him away.[102] Following their battle, the Sage of Time came to visit Agraston at Gorondia.[103] She predicted that the Demon King would one day break out of his prison and threaten Hyrule, but he would be stopped by Link.[104] However, Link will need the help of the Gorons to face him, and so she asked Agraston to lend him his power.[105] Upon hearing her request, Agraston realized what the duty of the Gorons would be,[106] and he vowed that a new Sage of Fire would awaken when the time comes and fight alongside Link.[107]
While Goron City has been saved, Agraston warns that the Demon King Ganondorf is still a threat.[108] He instructs Yunobo to take his Secret Stone and become the new Sage of Fire.[109] Agraston then disappears. Yunobo is initially hesitant to take the Secret Stone out of concern that he is not as great as the previous Sage.[110] However, he realizes that it is his duty to help Link, and he accepts the Secret Stone.[111] The Stone then turns red as an inscription appears upon it, becoming the Secret Stone of Fire. It affixes itself to Yunobo's belt.
Declaring himself as the new Sage of Fire, Yunobo shows off his new power to Link.[112] He proceeds to summon his Sage Avatar, which uses his Power of Fire to charge around the chamber. Yunobo asks Link to hold out his fist,[113] and with a fistbump, he makes the Vow of Yunobo, Sage of Fire.[114] The Vow then inscribes itself on the thumb ring on Link's Right Arm, allowing him to summon Yunobo's Sage Avatar whenever he wants.[115] Yunobo promises that he will be strong enough to stand by Link's side.[116] With their business at the Fire Temple concluded, Yunobo decides that they should return to Goron City.[117]
Back in Goron City, all of the Marbled Rock Roasts disintegrate and fade away, and the Gorons are freed from its control. Upon seeing this, Slergo and Offrak begin cheering and laughing together. When Link and Yunobo return, Bludo attempts to scold the latter for making him worry,[118] but Slergo interrupts to defend him.[119] Despite this, Yunobo takes responsibility that he was the cause of the Marbled Rock Roast problem.[120] Slergo reminds Yunobo that he also returned Goron City to normal,[121] and Offrak proclaims that he is a hero.[122] Yunobo thanks the two of them for their kindness.[123]
Yunobo also thanks Link for his part in getting rid of the Marbled Rock Roasts.[124] He is concerned about what would have happened if Link did not break the Weird Mask.[125] Slergo asks if Zelda was angry about that,[126] at which point Yunobo reveals they were unable to find her.[127] Upon recollection, he feels like she was deliberately walking toward Marbled Gohma.[128] Offrak then wonders if the Zelda they saw was Marbled Gohma pretending to be her.[129]
Although Yunobo considers this ridiculous at first, he recalls that in the vision shown to them by Agraston, the Sage of Time resembled Zelda.[130] He is unsure how this could be Zelda, however, given how long ago Agraston lived.[131] If it was her, however, he thinks that they could have been following the real Zelda.[132] While he attempts to decipher it for himself, Yunobo only ends up becoming confused.[133] He declares that the only way to know for certain is to ask Zelda themselves.[134] Alternatively, if this is the final Main Quest that Link completes during "Regional Phenomena", Yunobo is confident that the Sage of Time was Zelda, meaning that the one they have seen in the present is an impostor.[135] Either way, he pledges to have the YunoboCo workers join the Search for Princess Zelda by scouring the area around Goron City.[136] At the end of their conversation, Yunobo declares that the two of them are connected no matter how far apart they are.[137] Bludo then tells Yunobo not to dig up any more strange rocks, much to Yunobo's embarrassment.[138] Should all of the other Main Quests related to "Regional Phenomena" be finished, Yunobo suggests that Link report his findings to Purah at Lookout Landing.[139] Afterwards, "Yunobo of Goron City" will be completed.

Right! Let's talk about the Upheaval. It's affected more than just the castle. Reports of other strange phenomena have been coming in from all over Hyrule. Let's take a look at your map. The first report comes from Hebra to the northwest. Next up is Eldin to the northeast. The Gerudo are reporting trouble in the southwest. And finally, there's Lanayru to the east. The strange phenomena are concentrated in these four regions. I can't say for certain, but... I've got the nagging suspicion that we might find out more about Princess Zelda by looking into these phenomena.
