a flame of curiosity

 HELLO!

Some time ago I took a brown crayon and sketched a rear-facing lady in a long dress.

I took a liking to it so much that the next step were pastels.

Mentioned sketch made with brown crayon.

I thought that pastels could nicely help in achieving a fantastic picture. A picture which may be a dream, or a fantasy universe.

Below there are photos showing further phases of a creative process.

a ghostly presence's stroll

 HELLO!

Do You happen to remember my post about a drawing dreaming in the meadow? I asked because once again a photo from a thin tiny book with variety of aphorisms (e.g. "Our main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand." by Thomas Carlyle) inspired me to create a work. To be precise - a pastel.

In the upper left corner there is a mentioned photo from this little book.

Lone tree among the lavender field - this scenery stimulates imagination.

sleeping fluffiness

 HELLO!

Lately I found an interesting photo on Twitter (user: Gianni, published 27.10.2024) which inspired me to create a pastel. It was showing a lovely white cat sleeping on a windowsill.

Below there's a mentioned pastel.

fortuneteller

 HELLO!

One day I thought that it might be a good idea to create a collage similar to Melancholy once again. By similar, I mean layering a paper with clipped parts on another paper (or cardboard) with press cuttings pasted on it.

As for work from today's post I came up with a concept of a collage made on circular media (after among the sunflowers I wanted to do tondo work again) with a horoscope as a main theme. What's the reason for choosing this theme? I've simply gathered lots of cuttings from horoscopes because I saw in them the potential for an interesting dada poem, or collage. I chose the collage option.

So, let's begin.

So, after I prepared a paper circle, and also a cardboard circle, I started drawing a silhouette of female fortuneteller with her crystal ball on the paper one. Above you can see a first draft.

Iris

 HELLO!

So, the whole idea for today's work appeared in my mind as an image of mysterious woman holding a flower. But which flower should I portray? That's a question. At first it was a bit difficult riddle but then I made a selection, and chose iris.

In quite unexpected conclusion an image of Iris, goddess from Greek mythology emerged.

The doodle I made in order to record my vision.

I drew a design on A3 paper.

inner life

 HELLO!

A few years ago I made a doodle of lady with windblown hair.

It inspired me to create a work.

Pandora

 HELLO!

From time to time I find films concerning mythology pretty interesting (especially greek and japanese ones). One of them got my attention to Pandora and her mysterious box. So I started thinking about her, and I was wondering how would I portray Pandora?

So, that's how Pandora became my aim.

Here is the 1st draft.

I wanted to capture a curiosity not only on her face but also in her movements. She swings forward the box and reaches to it with her right arm.

Below there's a final drawing made by a brown crayon on a paper.

the Symphony of Terror

 HELLO!

A year ago I wrote a poem inspired by Yuki Kajiura's composition the Main theme of Petit Cossette. This beautiful & moody piece of music made me think about the dark sky and blusterous storm.

The poem I wrote is named symfonia grozy and you will be able to read it HERE.

Today I'd like to show you a pastel created on the basis of a poem, and also a translation of mentioned poem - the symphony of terror.

ENJOY!

a Dragon - part 2

 HELLO!

Today's the continuation of creating a dragon, and consequently - this is the last part of dealing with the dragon. If you want to remind yourself what happened in the 1st part, check it out HERE

My next step was colouring a dragon's eyes

I coloured his eyes with crayons - yellow, green and blue.

At first I wasn't sure which colours should I choose for this dragon. I was thinking about it pretty long.

Finally I decided that dragon will be gray, his thorns - brown, red, orange and yellow.

But I started from creating a background with soft pastels. I wanted to get an effect of the evening sky which is glowing because of the fire.

impressive sunset

 HELLO!

Few days ago I was baking a mazurek (traditional cake for Easter), and I simply looked through the window. Once again I was strongly impressed by colours of the sunset. This time it was splendid combination of violet and yellow hidden behind the trees on the horizon.

Those colours and trees inspired me to transfer my impressions on a cardboard with oil pastels.

Here's result of my work.

Samurai whose eyes are aiming at the cherry blossom

 Hello! 🌸

So, this rare opportunity, which is an image of a man on my blog, has come. For this particular portrayal I chose a samurai. I accepted this challenge with a pleasure (lately One Piece increased my interest in japanese culture much more). I went through a huge brainstorm... Firstly I took pastels and made an undermentioned sketch.

To my own surprise this sketch was looking like a response to Sutekina tsuitachi o. There was a young lady sitting under the cherry blossom with an o-choko (a cylindrical cup which is used for drinking sake) in her hand.

At the end of 2020 a female guitarist is playing something calm

 Hello! 🎸

In the last post in this year there will be one of my aims - a female guitarist. I haven't got a clue at the beginning how should I portray her... Finally playing on the guitar make me aware which pose looks the best (and drawing a guitar was kinda problematic).

A Guitarist, pencil and oil pastels on a paper, 14,8 x 21 cm.

During creative process I decided to experiment a bit. I used a pencil for a young guitarist sitting on a wall and oil pastels for background. I thought about the fourth story from anime Mononoke (2007) where the grey world became lively thanks to smelling various scents.

So... That's all.

As a new aim I chose... a portrayal of a Samurai

🏯

(because this year's One Piece was really awesome, entertaining and inspiring... For me it was one of those rare things that made 2020 quite tolerable)

I wish you a Happy, Calm and Great New Year!

Giewont

Hello!

In this post I would like to show a pastel which was made four or five years ago.

It was a gift for somebody important.

Giewont, pastel on paper.

Giewont (1895 m) is a mountain massif in the west part of Tatras. It's one of the most impressive mountains in mentioned mountain range because of its form resembling a profile of a sleeping man. There's even a legend about a sleeping knight morphed into rocks.

Pastel was inspired by one photography of one tourist book (which name I cannot recall).

Have a Nice Day!

a Waterfall

Hello!

Today - after a long absence - I want to show you one old pastel a Waterfall. Unfortunately I don't remember when I made this picture. In one small book with quotes I noticed a beautiful photo of a waterfall in a forest's depth. I decided to 'pastel' it and that's all.

A Still Nature - my aim

Hello!

I decided to finish my aim quickly. I'm writing about a Still Nature. Once I saw three fruits: plums, grapes and tomatoes on a plate I wanted to draw a still nature. I was fascinated with their colours and layout. As a result I took a photo which was a very good decision.

And this is a pastel which was based on this photo.

A Still Nature with Plums, Grapes and Tomatoes, pastel on cardboard, 21,4 x 23 cm.

Well... as you see I still must practise.

Have a Nice Day!

Oh... I almost forgot... My new aim is portrait of Keiko Kubota (Kalafina, FictionJunction) in the same manner as Wakana.

Calendulas

Hello!

Calendulas, pastel on paper, 21x14,5 cm.

Similarly to Dianthuses, this pastel was a gift for someone special too. Title is a latin version of 'marigolds'. I think that Calendulas sounds much better for a title of this pastel.
*
For today, that's all. I - also - wish that I'll finish a still nature - my pretty old aim - pretty soon.

Dianthuses

Hello!

In the last beautiful day of August I want to show you my pastel with dianthuses. I only heard somewhere that they're considered as a symbol of boldness. Don't know if it was truth but it was my gift for one special person.

Please, take a look.

a Hope of the Phoenix

Hello!

In this post I want to show you not only a pastel but also my poem about its. If you are interested, please take a look.

a hope of the phoenix, pastel on paper, 21x14,9 cm.

a hope of the phoenix

the phoenix flitted
it lost its fiery feathers
during a flight
but feathers didn't fall on the Earth
- with a sunset as a background
feathers separate somewhere above in the air
beyond a man's reach

the phoenix saw a sunset
while it was burning out of sadness
and flew towards the Sun
however it still had got a hope
for rebirth

towards new life
the phoenix flew to be born
in rays of the new day

That's all. If you are interested in polish version (original :-) of poem,
please take a look THERE.

Have a nice day!

A view from the Tatra mountains

Hello!

Rohacze, Łopata and Wołowiec, pastel on paper, 20,3 x 25,7 cm

Do you remember my first aim about a view from the Tatra mountains? I can't remember where I left my sketch. So I decided to draw another view from those mountains. My pastel was based on a beautiful photography from the book about the Tatra Mountains.
