Hi All,
Been super busy the last 10 days or so. Saw the new Halloween movie with the kids, we loved it. Ate a pretzel the size of my head for Oktoberfest and went to a Badminton lesson with my daughter.
In the mean time I did finish the Umber Hulks/Ambulls. The varnish was acting weird, and I kept finding tiny spots that were missed. Finally I just gave in and called them done.
So here they are. After three times painting varnish on I'm leaving the shiny spots.
For fun I put them around Ape force, which was finished earlier. I submitted all of them to the OWAC Sprint challenge. No real reason, just because I could.
I then thought it might be nice to do an ape family portrait.
Thanks for looking and commenting.

Paint Table Saturday 258 - Those Pesky Umber Hulks (Ambulls)
Hi All,
Late again for Saturday, but it's been a busy week. The boy had a band performance during the week, then played with the High School band during halftime at the Football game. Then we ran a Cross Country race in the pouring rain Saturday morning.
I've gotten several layers of drybrushing on the Umber Hulks. It's not looking quite where I want it, but I'm not going to worry about things too much.
I've since filed the putty down and added sand paste and grit to the base. Should get the paint on him this week.
Welcome to Dave Brewster, if you have a blog let me know and I'll link to it. I'm guessing you may be the daveb that commented on the RoC post.
As always, thanks for reading and commenting.

I also got the Olley Dwarf Brewmeister on his base and used a spot of Squadron Green Putty to try and cover the mold line in his tankard.

Umber Hulks and assorted terrain projects
Hi All,
I wanted to start today's post by welcoming Remco to the blog. I usually leave the welcomes for last and almost always forget. Your name is very familiar, but I can't seem to think of your blog. Blogger profiles don't seem to include that any more.
On to the projects.
Finally broke out those Nozulr's Umber Hulks I ordered from miniature market. I'm going to paint them up for the Ambull Safari. Still need to work out some kinks in the scenario.
While I was photographing the Umber Hulks, this cardboard river section looked back at me accusingly. You may recall I had started these back circa 1990 and then restarted them a relatively short while ago. Gamer ADD is a struggle.
Last night my son and I were looking at the WFB 3rd Ed rule book and Slaves to Darkness. He stopped on the Mighty Fortress picture in 3rd Ed again, reminding me we are supposed to play a siege. I want to take some measurements of the pieces to try and make additional sections to match. It may be beyond my skill set.
In blogging news, you may have noticed that you stopped receiving notifications for comments to your own blog. This apparently started near the end of June. This morning I received an email from noreply+blogger asking me if I wanted to subscribe to comment notification or unsubcribe to my own blog. I looked it up in support and it appears legit. I checked my email settings and my gmail account was listed to get blog comment updates, so I'm not sure why it took this long to ask me if I wanted to continue my subscription. Just an FYI.
Happy Hobbying!

Paint Table Saturday 199 - Imperial Guard and Bones figures
Hi All,
Well this week didn't see me complete anything. Time waits for no man. But I got fairly far with the first squad for my Imperial Guard unit.
I see a few missed spots here and there. Mostly shades of grey and black on these. If I was a smart person I would have primed them in the base uniform grey color. But I'm not that smart. There were also some spray primer issues that had to be resolved. I had intended them for BeerMaW week 8 but couldn't get them finished. I can't seem to get a lot done these days, I think the heat spiking back up may have something to do with it.
Not so much found as relocated. As I've mentioned, I've been cleaning up so I don't appear to be a crazy person to my in laws. I had put this in a box and then piled other stuff on top of it. I then realized that I could do some terrain pieces for quick BeerMaW entries. September is going to be super busy for me and I may fall way behind. This resin piece is from Dragon Forge in their terrain section.
I also got a couple Oxidation Beasts and a bunch of Ankhegs to throw into a fantasy or Sci-Fi scenario. I'm thinking as random encounters for the Ambull scenario. Sorry about the blurry pics. They were rushed one evening and I didn't realize they were that bad.
I placed my order with Mini Monsters and used the coupon code from Mario to essentially get free shipping. I'll share pictures of the products when I get them. I'm excited about these as they have some neat stuff for reasonable prices and shipping.
Happy painting.

One of those days
I'm just having one of those days today. For some reason little things are just setting me off.
A trip to the supermarket had me wanting to eviscerate other motorists both coming and going. Pulling all the way through the parking space from one lane over as I'm trying to get to it to park? Seeing me back out and not giving me room to turn in the direction I would like to go? Little annoyances to be sure, but it made me apoplectic.
I thought I'd paint, and may yet still, but I spent most of the day just being a grouch.
Then I decided to read up on my blog roll to help. And you know what? It did. Particularly this post by Justin over at the Royalist Roundhead. When I can snap out of it better I will likewise do a post on blogs that inspire me. I also need to go through and do a post on drumming up some followers for blogs that are great but don't have the followers to match their greatness. Similar to what James at Exiles Wargames Painters and Loki at Loki's Great Hall have done in turning me on to some great bloggers.
Welcome to Grigork of The Megalomniac, a quite nice looking blog with some good battle reports and excellent figures and terrain. And how can you go wrong with a cat on the games table?
Also Ray said he preferred female armor.
I suspected as much. ;)
And finally. I would still be playing D&D today if she was in my gaming group.

Happy Gygax Day
Hi All,
This just came across my radar this morning.
I have no idea if there were events or anything involved. I'm not interested in the drama surrounding which version of D&D is better or if retro clones are better etc.
I just like to remember the good times I shared with friends playing games with Mr. Gygax's name on them.
If you care to share your reminiscences, please do. Or perhaps I will share a thing or two. You can see one such inspired art work from this post here.
Have a good one.

Fabulous maps of Greyhawk
In an effort to avoid household chores and external Christmas lighting I thought I'd post about a site that I can't say enough about.
That site is Atlas of the Flanaess by Anna B Meyer. These maps are simply stunning and she has really put a lot of work into them. They seem to show the continent after the Greyhawk Wars, something that completely passed me by when it came out.
They come complete with heraldry and fairly detailed settlements, roads and borders. You can also check her group out on facebook.
Here is a low res image of her latest release:
Enjoy!
