The Black Maria - An Inquisitorial Transport
I've wanted to make some sort of special forces vehicle for a little while, and had originally bought the Zinge Industries APC conversion kit for my Imperial Guard Kill Team. But it had sat, assembled and unpainted for a couple of years. Having recently completed my Inquisitorial Commandos, I figured I could dust down the APC and paint it up for them.

Kill Team: Rogue Trader 1987
I admit it, over the last couple of months there has been a little bit of a hidden agenda with regard to some of my output. When Kill Team: Rogue Trader was released in September 2018, it sparked off the idea that I might be able to replicate the Imperial forces using actual Rogue Trader miniatures from the 1980s, rather than the modern plastics (which are fantastic miniatures of course).
This wouldn't be an exercise in proving that old is better than new, but rather that the modern figures have their archetypal roots embedded in 40k history. Below is my 10-strong proxy group of Kill Team: Rogue Trader Rogue Trader equivalents, comprised of:
- Rogue Trader Phal Kyrie standing in for Elucia Vhane
- Tech Priest Zon playing the part of Sanistasia Minst, Rejuvenat Adept
- A mysterious Imperial Assassin in place of Knosso Prond, Death Cult Executioner
- Tech Priest Schlan substituting tech-priest Larsen van der Grauss
- A squad of Commandos as Voidsmen and C.U.R.R. the cyber-mastiff in place of Aximillion the canid

The Holder of the Charter - Phal Kyri, Rogue Trader
Although I actually painted the Rogue Trader rogue trader a few weeks back, I've mentally repurposed him as a hard-nosed Inquisitor. So that left me with a vacancy for an actual miniature to represent a rogue trader. So I painted up a suitably imposing figure to fill the gap.

The Iron Fist III - Inquisitor Chernevog
As I said in my last post, I fancied adding a suitable high ranking character to lead my squad of Inquisitional commandos. And who better than a dour, puritanical Inquisitor. None of the actual Rogue Trader Inquisitor models really fit the bill (mostly kitted out as they are in power armour of various outlandish designs). But the Rogue Trader rogue trader model had the perfect look with his greatcoat and no-nonsense gear.

The Iron Fist II - Inquisitional Commando Reinforcements
A squad of five Inquisitional commandos is nice, but two squads is much better. Especially when you get some fancy weapons and a doctrine-spouting officer to boot.

The Iron Fist - Inquisitional Commandos
I know that the Inquisition hangs around with the Deathwatch or the Adepta Sororitas a bit, but they're overkill when it comes to an every-day world of the Imperium setting. Storm Troopers and Tempestus Scions are a little bit militaristic. So I'd put aside a few Imperial Light Troopers (AKA No Face Fargo) and Garrison Troopers (AKA Kylla Conditti) with the intention of using them as a tools of the oppressive Imperial regime in a mundane, non-battlefield setting.
And so, along comes January and a new painting challenge on the Oldhammer Facebook group. The rules of 'Naismithery' are simple - pick one or more models sculpted by Bob Naismith and paint it within the month of January. It just so happens that Bob sculpted both No Face and Kylla...
