No More Sushi Jokes Please! - Rogue Trader Piscean Warrior

Back in the early 2000s I started to get interested in revisiting some of the oddities and aliens from the 40k universe. I acquired Iron Claw space pirates and ambulls. I built a zoat army and gave one of my Eldar Warlocks a gyrinx companion. I also painted a piscean warrior in around 2004. Ten years later, I bought and painted a piscean warrior homage from the talented hands of then amateur sculptor Diego Serrate Pinilla through the now-defunct Oldhammer forums. At that point in 2014, I put my original RT piscean warrior in the stripping jar and boldly stated that I would paint it up in a "brand new matching paint scheme".

It is now 7 years later. Diego has since launched a pretty successful miniatures company, Knightmare Games, where you can still buy his fishman sculpt. And I have finally repainted my Rogue Trader piscean warrior!

Elfman and the Fishdog

I've painted two pretty much unrelated figures over the past week. The only thing they really have in common is that they're needed for future games: a new Eldar figure for my Inquisimunda campaign, and a companion model for my 'Space Riders' RPG character.

Fishdog
'What on earth is Space Riders?', I hear you ask. It's a Rogue Trader themed RPG I'm currently involved playing online with a group of gaming buddies. My character is Fim, a rather moribund Piscean Warrior. We'll be playing a physical game of RT in a few months time, and need to represent each character, plus a companion, on the table. Happily, I painted up one of Obscure Creator's fishmen about 18 months ago, so I just needed to source and paint a suitable companion.

I've had a swamp hound model from Four A Miniatures sitting in a box for ages, for just this very purpose. I gave him a very quick paint job using a neutral skin colour to contrast with the more brightly coloured Fim.

Something Smells Fishy to Me - Painting a Piscean Warrior

Back in 1987, GW released its Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader game. Accompanying the rulebook, a small range of 14 miniatures were released in March 1987. The range included a selection of humans and aliens, including a large, rather odd-looking alien with fishy characteristics; a Piscean Warrior:
