Mixtecas & Tzunx - Slann of all Sizes

Another pair of slann to add to my warband. This time it's a combat specialist accompanied by a rather more brutish slann! Mixtecas is a converted Warhammer Fantasy slann, and his larger companion is a Phrogg from Ral Partha Europe.

Idol of the Old Ones - Slann Terrain

Some of the Seraphon (lizardmen) themed terrain that Games Workshop have produced over the last few years is perfect for slann. I've had this Idol of the Old Ones from the Warcry Pyre & Flood set assembled for a little while, and it seemed the right time to get it painted up!

The Magnificent Slann-ven - Finishing the Rogue Trader Set

Following on from the previous couple of slann-themed posts, I was filled with enthusiasm to finish painting all the Rogue Trader slann and get a bucket-list project completed. I've wanted to get a full set painted for more years than I care to remember! With around half the set painted, it seemed like a good idea to blast through the remaining seven figures. And here they are:

Huvez & Ctzoad - Space Slann Warrior & Youngling

I'm continuing with the focus on my space slann for the moment, making the most of my enthusiasm for painting them! As mentioned in my previous post, I wanted to try out a complementary but variant skin colour for the slann. I have used a nice de-saturated orangy-red (Citadel's Wild Rider Red) which I've highlighted with a pale flesh paint and am very happy with the results. I think I'll use this in a rough 1:2 ratio with the deep red I've been using for the slann to date.

Haxl & Scoitz, Slannicide Squad

I enjoyed painting up the slann heavy weapons trooper last time out, so decided to get another couple finished whilst I was in the mood. This time it's Captain Haxl and Scoitz, both from the original Rogue Trader slann range. No modifications, just a nice straightforward painting output! With the colour scheme nailed, these were quick and easy. I am considering some variant skin colours for the next couple (nothing too divergent, but perhaps an orange or lighter red).

The Frog with the Golden Gun - Slann Heavy Weapon

On Saturday I attended the excellent Lead & Steel Oldhammer show in Sheffield. Although not a huge show, it was really well organised with a lovely relaxed vibe. This was the 2nd year of running and featured a range of really lovely and eye-catching games including 2nd edition 40k, Blood Bowl, original edition Adeptus Titanicus and Necromunda. The event was also attended by a number of vendors including Mammoth Miniatures and Bad Squiddo. I didn't take any pictures - I was too busy chatting and rolling dice, but you can see plenty over at the event Facebook page.

L'ng Tchun Xlvr - Space Slann Pirate (Lead & Steel Event Mini)

I was delighted to receive a preview copy of the Lead & Steel 2025 event miniature recently from organiser Mat Lindsay (Indelible Ink Studio). The figure is L'ng Tchun Xlvr, Space Slann Pirate. The figure was sculpted by Aidan at Warfactory and cast in resin by Ramshackle Games.

Inq et nunc - The Ancient Slann

Back in the early 2000s I planned a space slann army for 40k. The project never got off the ground as I moved towards smaller skirmish games, and most of the slann have long since been passed on. I did however keep the slann leader that I had planned to use - this was a conversion that was done for me by sculptor and Golden Demon winner Jeff Wilhelm. 20 years on, I have finally got round to painting up this long-neglected slann!

Originally intended for 28mm gaming, this slann will also see use in 54mm.

The Cosmic Amphibians - Space Slann

Technically this post is made up of a couple of spin-off projects from a spin-off project. I painted up the unreleased space slann to bulk up my Five Parsecs from Home crew into a Stargrave crew. Then the Colony 87 figure and terrain pieces just followed suit!

The Alien Delegation Arrives - Space Slann

A pair of officials waited nervously in the disembarkation hall. They ignored the pilgrims, merchants and leisure travellers. They were here to greet a more distinguished visitor. The diplomatic talks with the xenos emissary, Barcoon Krobosh, would profoundly impact on the future prosperity of the Colony.

Newly off the painting table are a trio of aliens which have probably evolved from amphibious ancestors. First up is Barcoon Krobosh, the Amphiran Emissary from Colony 87 miniatures. This wonderful high-ranking alien was sculpted by Michael Anderson and is bedecked with ornaments of office.

Frog Sporting Action (Blood Bowl Slann)

It's high time I devoted some column inches to Blood Bowl (still my favourite GW game). I play Blood Bowl more frequently that any other game, and started in a new season with the Nottingham Blood Bowl League a week or two back.

I'm using the Slann team for the first time since a couple of very frustrating games back in 2011 when I built the team. Following last Wednesday evening's game I was able to buy myself a new player for the squad with my winnings; I settled on a third Catcher.

When I originally built the team, I picked up a selection of 11 old WHFB Slann and did a few weapon snips and minor modifications. The Catchers were a bit more dynamic, with leaping and jumping poses as befits their in-game rules. In anticipation of needing a new player, I had acquired some additional Slann just for this very purpose. The new Catcher was donated to the cause by Asslessman over at Leadplague (thanks JB - hope you don't mind the heretical use I've put him to!).

Here's the resulting figure:

Retro-tastic: A Rogue Trader Zoat & Slann Photoshoot

Yesterday I had the day off work and arranged to meet up with fellow old school enthusiast Graham Apperley for gaming-related fun. We opted to structure our day around visits to Warhammer World and Foundry, with some tabletop action into the mix.

After a hearty breakfast, Graham showed off some newly painted Space Slann...26 of them to be precise. Graham claims not to be happy with the paint jobs, but I think the lovely bright colours look great! I then pulled out my stupidly heavy case to show my Zoat army; created in ~2005, my Zoat army saw action on the 40k tournament scene as a proxy Tyranid army for around 2 years, with its last outing in 2007. As this was the first time the army had been out of the case in 7 years, we decided to borrow one of the Warhammer World tables and set up a little display.

As the Slann emerge from the edge of the forest, they are unnerved to see a herd of Zoats charging towards them!
