World Autism Awareness Day

April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day; I did these nails to support autism awareness!

I've been experimenting with making my own spot it; this is one of my fails that I made over the weekend.  Pretty for a drip marble/decal to use on your nails but a fail for DIY spotted polish.

After choosing the areas of the decal that I wanted to use, cut them down to nail size, then applied after putting a thin coat of blue polish and sticky base.  The polishes are Essie Shelter Island, Orly Witch's Blue, Color Club Throwing Spade and Color Club Chelsea Girl.  While I love blue, unfortunately, cleaning up blue is hit and miss.

Applied a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

(Note to self; do not use HTF polish in the future making decals!)

Stamped using images from Dashica 020 using FunkyFingers Gesso with accent nail of BM-321.

Topped with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I plan on sharing mainly blue mani's all month in support of Autism Awareness month.  For those who aren't blue lovers, I will have some mani's sprinkled in that aren't blue for Digit-al Dozen week and Easter so hopefully you still check back!

World Cancer Day Nails

Today is World Cancer Day which is a global event that unites the world in the fight against cancer.

Started with a base of two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, then top coated with Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC before stamping (no pix has have shown before).  Using the clear jelly stamper from Fab Ur Nails, stamped using images from Bundle Monster BM-408 (thumb), Infinity 148 (middle words and ribbon on index and ring), and Bundle Monster BM-321 (rest of the ribbons).  Used assortment of MdU and MoYou stamping polishes for the ribbons in support of the various cancer awareness groups.  I had to shrink the earth image using the UberChic luxe stamper, then placed it (not too well as you can see lol).  We need a clear jelly stamper now that images can be shrunk.

Added a coat of Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC and headed to bed.

Infinity 148.  For those of you who may not be that familiar with this plate, this was created by Shirley of Dashica after the loss of her father from cancer.

This morning, added words to the thumb; I had planned on doing this last night but it was late and I knew it would take a bit of time to individually stamp the words.  Used Nailways Back to Basics 123 ABC and Konad black and red special polishes for the words, except 'day' which was from Bundle Monster BM-S222.  Used the clear jelly stamper for placement.

Top coated the thumb with Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC to finish.

There is a lot of information about World Cancer Day on their website here .  I hope that I live to see the day that we no longer need World Cancer Day.

World Cancer Day Nails!

Today is World Cancer Day...a day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment.  Here's the link to the official World Cancer Day page which has explains why the day was created; and a link to the Canadian Cancer Society's page on this years awareness focus which is dispelling cancer myths.  The site is also an excellent source of many other topics and information relating to cancer. Here's my World Cancer Day mani.

Started with a base of two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, top coated with SV (no pix as have shown before).

Stamped a total of 28 times (!) by isolating a small ribbon from the full size image on BM321 using assortment of polishes:  Konad apple greed, red and dark red, Mundo de Unas stamping polishes in 11, 16 and 22, FUN stamping polishes in Bubble Blue and Cotton Candy, Sally Hansen Insta-dri in Man-go Team!, Sally Hansen Butterscotch and Barry M Gray.

The ribbon colours represent the following cancers according to this site:  lavender (all cancers), gold (childhood cancers), pink (breast cancer), gray (brain cancer), yellow (bone/bladder cancer), burgundy (multiple myeloma), lime green (lymphoma), brown (colon cancer), blue (prostrate cancer) and red (blood cancer).

Decided to add random dots for filler.  I chose lavender as it's the universal cancer ribbon colour and pink for breast cancer awareness which has special meaning to my family.

Topped with SV to finish.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Mani

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month; as a woman as well as someone who has been involved with a close family member dealing with breast cancer over the last year, I would be remiss in not doing at least one mani in support of the awareness cause; here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of piCture poLish Electric Dream; this pix has no topcoat.  For those who like a shiny finish, it would need topcoat as it does dry on the matte side.  I didn't topcoat as I knew I was doing some layering.  Still stunning, though!  (I also love how this polish perfectly compliments my blog wallpaper!)

My original plan for the mani was a funky french tip with the Bundle Monster ribbon at the tips using BM-324, so added FingerPaints Frosty Night at the tips.

Topped with a little Quo By Orly Spirit.

But I decided to do some different stamp designs so only used the tip image from BM324 on the thumb and did it midway for something out of the ordinary...for me any way!  Other images used were from plates BM317 (middle), BM303 (index) and BM321 on ring.  For the pinky, images from BM317 and BM303 were isolated and separately stamped; all using white Konad special polish.  (I have no idea what I was thinking putting those lips on my ring finger lol!)

Topped with SV to finish.

Just before I took the mani off, I put a layer of Essie Matte About You.

A couple days after I did this mani, my husband surprised me with the OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 duo that he had picked up at a breast cancer awareness fundraiser which was a nice surprise as never buys me polishes! Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in another mani using them before the end of the month!

Mint Mani's for Talia Joy

The world lost a beautiful young girl earlier this week.  As announced on Angels for Talia,  Talia Joy Castellano earned her angel wings on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 11:22 am.  The last picture that she had posted to her Instagram page was trio of mint mani's of her mom, sister and herself.  It had been suggested by Nail Polish Wars that the nail community do Mint Mani's for Talia today; this is what I came up with.

Started with a base of two coats of Orly Basket Case and Orly Gumdrop; topped with SV.

Stamped with red, black and white Konad special polish using assortment of plates; Apipila 02 (mascara on pinky), A49 (wings on thumb), FUN12 (compact and brushes on middle), SdP 119 (words beauty and nail), SdP 57 (lipstick and polish on index), BM321 (ribbons on ring), HB18 (angel on thumb) and MJ XVIII (RIP on thumb).

Stamped a few random stars using red Konad special polish using an image from SdP 57.

Added random dots throughout in an attempt to bling it out as I had seem from pix that Talia had really loved the use or colour and had lots of bold, colourful mani's!

Topped with SV to finish.

I finished this mani around 3 am last night (this morning!) and my eyes were a little blurry and I had a hard time to get my phone to take a focused pix (or maybe it was the blur in the eyes; not sure!) so I didn't have that great selection of pix to share.  I took another this morning outside in case I could get a better one; it's OK, but still not the best.

Here's some other Mint Mani's for Talia.

My condolences to the Castellano family.

Blue Awareness Ribbons

Here's the last of the wear blue in support of Autism Awareness mani's for the month of April.   I've been saving this one for the very last as it was one of my favourites.

Started with a base of one coat of American Apparel American Denim, no top coat (index has two coats only because I nicked it).

For the gradient at the tips, added a coat of Icing Starlight.  Starlight is lightly tinted which was a bonus as it added nicely to the gradient.

Added a layer of Icing All Night Long at the tips.

Stamped using white Konad special polish using BM321 with an accent of BM324.  I'll be very honest; I had wanted to do the image on the accent on all the fingers, but I didn't think I'd be able to line them up well as french tipped images are my nemesis!  When I did the accent first and it turned out OK, I thought I had better not press my luck so decided on the larger full size ribbon for the majority of the fingers or risk wrecking them all!

I usually don't do my mani's facing towards me, but had to do it because of the way the accent stamped.  So I took a few pix so they weren't upside down!

I was really surprised that no Autism Awareness puzzle ribbon exists; I made a note of it in my ongoing list of image wants and hopefully one of the plate makers will add an puzzle ribbon image in the future.

Topped with SV to finish.

I hope that there wasn't too much blue for the month; I tried to vary the blues up a bit...and even though I thought I shared a fair number of blues during the course of the month.....there are oh, so many more blue polishes in my stash that I never used ...I didn't even get all the finished blue mani's posted that I wore .....another time for sure!
