Virtual Cookie Exchange

Welcome to the party!!

I love this hop! Not only do I find new-to-me recipes & ideas, but the holiday posts are so inspiring!  I'd like to give a special shout-out to Carol @Just Let Me Quilt for arranging this fun hop for us!  Thank you Carol!!

I have been thinking about snow. :-) One of my favorite cookies is called the Snowball Cookie and the blog Mama Knows Gluten-Free has my  go to recipe.  Being gluten-free is a challenge around the holidays for me, but I must say it has gotten easier over the years. And my non-GF family gobbles these cookies up too!

I didn't get a chance to make cookies this week because I have been keeping my embroidery machine humming~

My kiddoes have mentioned (more than once LOL) that they need new kitchen towels.  I found this design at Embroidery Library and purchased it during a sale. I love it!!  I need to make myself a few too. ;-) ;-)

I hope you are enjoying the hop and meeting new-to-you bloggers too.

A Bit of Fun~

A few weeks ago Barb from Barb Tourtillotte Illustrations

was looking for someone to 'play' (to me it is play, but she said 'create' ;-) ) with her newest fabric line called 'Bundle Up' for Henry Glass.

(photo from Barb's website)

I applied and she picked me!!!!!!!!!

The fabrics are all so fun!  I love snowmen and all the little forest animals are so cute.

She sent me FQs, the large panel and the smaller block panel.

I dreamed and played and came up with placemats for the block panel and FQs~

I had so much fun!

I added a pocket for a napkin and silverware. My DGD is learning to set the table, so this will definitely help her. :-)

There was a border stripe FQ and I carefully cut that apart to put along the bottom of each placemat.

I had two FQs left and I had saved one to put on the bottom of the panel, and the other I used for binding. I really cut that close!

If you look closely, you can see that I added a red tassel to the bottom of the panel.
It fits perfectly in our hall~ is it too early to keep it up? :-) LOL

Thank you, Barb, for trusting me with your gorgeous fabrics!!

Until next time~

Happy stitchin'!

Welcome to the second day of the 'It's a Dogs Life' Blog Hop! Thank you to Carol @justletmequilt  for dreaming up this fun hop!

 The Challenge--

Sew your project with dog themed fabric or applique/embroidery of dogs.
As an added challenge, if dogs don't ring your bell, think vintage.
Vintage blocks, quilts, fabrics, or whatever old designs makes you happy.

I went with 'think vintage'. :-) I love vintage fabrics and quilts! This quilt is very special to me, although it is quite worn. It was hand pieced by a family cousin and hand quilted by my Mom & paternal Gran.  My Mom never told me exactly which cousin (I think it was a cousin of my Grandmothers) and now, of course, I wish I had pressed her further.  :-/  I know she was on my Mom's side of the family and never married. So the quilt top languished in a box until my Mom rescued it after the cousins passing or from the cousin's sister~ I'm just not sure.

I absolutely love all the prints used; how some have completely faded away, and finding a little person in a print is just the most fun!!!  Do you love 30's fabrics too?

I have been collecting 30's fabrics for quite some time and have a quilt top almost together~ maybe I will be able to finish it this winter. Cutting piano keys for the borders is taking much longer than I thought it would! :-o

A Short Post... or not!

I mentioned my DDs wedding in my last post :)

I won't post a bunch of pix just maybe one or two.

She wore my Mom's pearls, and my garter~ something old and older!

Also borrowed and blue. ;-)

After the wedding, hubby & I took a few days to go camping.  We went to Leavenworth, WA

It was always such a quaint, little Bavarian village and last time we really enjoyed the shops and atmosphere. Not so much this time~ they have gone commercial. :-( Parking meters everywhere! Streets blocked off, people feeling the pressure to park and then to get back to their vehicles. At $3.50/hr, that is understandable. And cars constantly circling made it much less fun.

Fortunately our campground was right on the river and we had an evening visitor across the river~

I love seeing wildlife~ from a great distance with a zoom lens! :-)

Pre-wedding, I went on a small retreat with friends and managed to get most of this tree skirt embroidered~

I finished it up when we got home.
I love gingerbread designs so had to make this one! It is from Designs By Juju and is on sale now. ;-)  I was so fortunate to get to be a sample maker for Juju for this one!  I had so much fun embroidering it!

Now I must get back to my machine!

I still have lots of catching up to do!!

Until next week~

Happy sewing!!

I'm Ba-ack!!!

Hi there!

Yes, yes, yes, I have been MIA but for a very good reason!

Our DD got married in August. I was altering dresses, shopping for a new suit for hubby, and all the fun stuff a wedding involves. Our DS flew in and it was so nice to have all of our little family together for a few days.  Unfortunately, my DDIL and grands could not fly in as well. :-( But we Skyped nearly every day of his visit. It was wonderful!

So what is coming up?

How about a blog hop?

I have been busy preparing for my day---as well as a lot of other things!

Be sure to visit next week!

My Day to Party!

It has been a bit wild at our house the last few weeks, but I am so happy to chat with you about the Picnic Party Blog Hop!

The challenge was to make something to use for a picnic, or something square. :-)  I usually choose a date toward the middle of the week, but this time I thought Monday might be the best. ;-)

My DGD loves picnics and always begs to eat outside when she is here~ although we don't have a picnic table, I do make the little card table festive. :-)

I made the table runner and placemat with my embroidery machine. They are in the hoop designs from Designs by Juju.  They were really fun to make. Unfortunately I only made 2 placemats and DGD thinks I need 6! :-o I guess I need to get to work. LOL

And speaking of picnics, are you a Costco fan?  We found these wonderful sorbets in fruit rind cups~

So very refreshing on a hot summer day! ;-)

(and no, I am not promoting Costco, just passing along a goodie we found and enjoy)

'When Pigs Fly' Hop~

 Hello! And welcome!

And happy first day of Summer!

Will it be a hot day for you?  Not so much here, but the temps are just where I love them~ 70ºF

I knew I had some projects I needed to finish, but the one that caught my eye was this little bundle~

I stopped working on it last year ~I don't know why!~ but knew I wanted it this year. :-)

All I had left to do was layer, quilt and bind.

And now it is finished and hanging! The tumblers were cut with a 4" Accuquilt Die and the stars were cut with a Crafter's Edge Star Die. :-) I love it when all my little gadgets play together! LOL

I quilted wavy lines and bound it by bringing the back to the front. Do you have trouble making a binding like that? One corner always turns out wonky?

Then I suggest this Handy Ruler

Quick-Easy Mitered Binding Tool

It works exactly like it is marketed to work, your miters are sewn closed with your sewing machine, and you can finish the binding with your sewing machine! I love it for placemats and tables runners and things that get a lot of washings.

(No, I am not a sponsor of the gadget or get any kind of promo points. I just love sharing when I find things that work!)
