Mary Jane Boyd started out as the vocalist of Sydney band, The Shapes Inbetween. The band had a lot of success in 1969, with live appearances on
In Town Tonight and
New Faces. They were a finalist in the 2UW
New Sounds of 69 competition, playing at Randwick Racecourse. In 1970 she toured Vietnam as part the ABC Show Band to entertain our troops. In 1971 she joined the
Bandstand team to film two shows recorded in Singapore. Signed to the Fable label she cut a couple of singles but neither charted. Her management didn't encourage her to record original music, but pushed her into the Leagues Clubs, and she was signed to do the weekly
The Sound of Music TV show, which didn't showcase her brilliant abilities. Mary Jane Boyd died at age 39 by committing suicide in 1991 a very sad end to what could have been a remarkable career if she been guided properly in her pioneering days.
