THE SYSSYS

The Syssys, an Adelaide band, were a hit in South Australia’s disco scene during the mid to late 60s. Their debut single, ''Jump Back / Take A Heart'', came out on the Leedon label in 1966, followed by their final record, ''The Singer Not The Song / Baby Don’t Do It'', (which is a favourite of mine) released on the RCA label in 1967. They performed at numerous venues around Adelaide and Elizabeth, even touring Melbourne, and were known as a popular backing band for many artists, including John Farnham at the Octagon Theatre in Elizabeth around 1966. Years later, two of their tracks were re-released on the 60s music compilation 'Big Beat Cellar Scene, The Lost Sounds of Adelaide 1965-70'. On February 28, 2008, while performing with his trio at a jazz club during the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Geoff McAllister tragically suffered a fatal heart attack and died at the age of 63.
