OCEAN MONARCH in Lisbon

The cruise ship OCEAN MONARCH returned to Lisbon on 31 October 2008 after the first season of summer cruises managed by Classic International Cruises.
Now she will undergo further refitting this winter, staying in Lisbon until 16 April 2009. In due course she is being renamed PRINCESS DAPHNE in the same way sistership DANAE was renamed PRINCESS DANAE in 1996 when purchased by Classic International Cruises.
The OCEAN MONARCH / PRINCESS DAPHNE is the newest acquisition of Classic International Cruises, FUNCHAL, PRINCESS DANAE, ARION and ATHINA.
It was very interesting to see the two former Karras sisters DAPHNE and DANAE once again under the same operator. Both were built in 1955 for Port Line and kept together under Karras and Costa ownership. The two ships were completely rebuilt into luxury cruise ships in 1974-1977.

OCEAN MONARCH no Tejo 11-09-2008

THE OCEAN MONARCH REFIT

The refit of the cruise ship OCEAN MONARCH continues in Lisbon alongside the Santa Apolónia quay, following a long stay in the NAVALROCHA dry dock.
Several days of perfect weather allowed me to make a large number of photographs. It is fascinating to be able to observe and register in images the refit of an old lady that still has a bright future now under the management of Classic International Cruises. Photographs taken on 4 April 2008.

OCEAN MONARCH in Lisbon Drydock

Like the other members of the Classic International Cruises every year, the "new" OCEAN MONARCH has been undergoing a very extensive refit at the NAVALROCHA shipyard in Lisbon. She has been there already for six weeks and soon will give way to the ARION...

OCEAN MONARCH REFIT

Images of the cruise ship OCEAN MONARCH (tbn PRINCESS DAPHNE) undergoing her refit at the NAVALROCHA shipyard (Dry dock nº 01) on 6th March 2008. Three years ago this beautiful ship was on the verge of being sold to Indian breakers, but had a last minute reprieve operating 3 and 4 day Aegean cruises. Now that a significant amount of money is being spent to modernize and upgrade the former DAPHNE, she has a brighter future along her Classic International Cruises fleetmates.
