QUEEN VICTORIA leaving Lisbon

QUEEN VICTORIA departing from Lisbon on 2 December 2009, the sunny evening light showing off her good looks and perfect livery... Not the same as the old QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 but anyway a nice sight in Lisbon waterfront.

LOOKING INTO THE QV

Cunard has just introduced another QUEEN to their fleet: the Italian built QUEEN VICTORIA, a ship set to replace the veteran QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 due to retire from active service next November. A new ship based on the ZUIDERDAM class of Holland America Line, and a near sister of the P&O ARCADIA, the QUEEN VICTORIA looks a scaled down QM2 in terms of interiors: a conservative look of British interior design style as seen by the American based Carnival Corporation. What a difference from the British superliners of the sixties, the ORIANA, CANBERRA and QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 in her original form, with their trend setting very modern interiors. The new Cunarder is a nostalgic ship, her interiors looking like the original QUEENs of 1936 and 1940, and those ships were already very conservative when introduced.
