Moroccan Lanterns

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If it’s bustling with excitement in Washington DC today, the same can’t be said around here. It’s been anything but exciting. Work is slow so I’m just sitting on the couch surfing online. I want to do some weeding but it’s too cold to go outside. What I’ve been doing is thinking and taking notes of the things we still need for the house like lights in some parts of the house. I saw Moroccan lanterns online a few days ago so I may go back to the site and see if there’s something there that will go with our house that I like. Aside from the lights, we still need a corner curio for the living room. We’ve checked the stores around here but we couldn’t find the curio that the husband wants. He can be rather picky when it comes to things that will last us years. He wouldn’t settle for anything just because. Hopefully, he likes Moroccan lanterns so we can put a lantern by the front door already. I should probably bookmark the ones I like and show them to hi...
Old house tales....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ About 2 weeks ago, we decided to use a realtor to sell the old house. We only put up a sign before with our contact information on it so there was really no marketing done. We still had a lot of our stuff there until that time so the husband got busy in the last 2 weeks moving them here. He also did some quick checking around the house and he found out that the kitchen faucets need fixing. He said he can do it himself when he has the chance but we're still undecided if he should just fix the old ones or replace them with new ones. Oh well, I guess if the house doesn't sell soon he can replace them faucets. That way the kitchen will look more attractive.

Furniture here and there...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Choosing the right furniture for a new house proved to be a not so easy task for me and my husband. As soon as we hit the furniture stores, we realized that we just didn’t want to pick the pieces just because we want to get it over and done with. So now, we are still not done with our furniture shopping. I, of course, am doing a lot of online window shopping. This is how I found Contract Furniture. This place sells restaurant furniture but I have seen some pieces that I’m actually interested in…mostly for the outdoors. The husband is planning in having the outdoor furnished in the future so this place is a great find for us because aside from having really nice looking furniture, the price are within our price range. Hopefully, in the months to come, I can post some pictures here in my blog of both the inside and outside of our my favorite topic here….our house!
Freebies...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When we did the closing with the house not too long ago, we of course had to go to the main office of our builder. We signed papers and got the usual pep talk that the lady there has probably done a thousand times already if not more. After her well-prepared speech and after signing all the necessary papers, she handed us the first set of keys to our new house. Were we excited? Of course! But do you know what got me more excited? It’s when she handed us some promotional products which are part of the packet she had ready for us. Yep, those products like pens and night lights with their company logos made ma all excited. Ha! I don’t why but it seems that everything that’s free, no matter how little it is always make one happy. No wonder companies make sure to have them at every given chance. These promotional products, which are also known as 'freebies' definitely make their business more successful. I doubt that they are really 'free...

Our Day...

Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ...went by fast. We moved some stuff...the boxes I had sitting on the kitchen floor. So I can now see some parts of the kitchen floor here. After hanging around the house, we went to the furniture store that the husband visited last week. That's what he does. He would go to stores if he's not too busy and look around. Last Wednesday, I think, he went to this furniture store near his work. The store sells Broyhill, Bassett, and some other furniture brands that I can't recall right now. He saw a dining set and a living room set he likes. He told the lady assisting him that he would have to bring me down there to get my approval. Well, the lady was not very happy with that because she wanted to make the sale right there and then. Why? Because she was going on a vacation and was afraid that she won't be there when we come back for a visit. So she told the husband that and asked him if he could wait until she comes back from her break......
Sunday....
Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Like I mentioned in my quick post earlier, we went to the house after lunch today. We didn't move anything yet. We decided to wait until there is some kind of privacy ~ like blinds ~ before we start moving things. I took pictures of the grass both in front of the house and the back. As you can see in the pics below, the grass is green and tall already. The sod guy said that we should wait 30 days before we start mowing so that's what we're doing. Here's the front snapshot... And here's the back...with my 'model'.. The grass at the back of the house is much greener and lusher. It's probably because it's not too exposed to the sun. As the grass grows, so do weeds. The weeds are taller than the grass of course. Our flower beds in front of the house are more like 'weed beds' at the moment. So what did we do while we're there? The little girl wants to call it 'picnic' because we brought a picnic bask...

Finally!

Yep, the C-L-O-S-I-N-G happened yesterday afternoon. We met with the representative from the builder at around 4:30 PM in their office. It was quick and easy. In other words...painless. She just went through some paperworks with us then handed us our first set of K-E-Y-S ! Yep, the house is ours! Well, sort of. It will be totally ours in 30 years, I think! LOL! Anyway, after the closing we went Wendy's to celebrate....hahaha! We really went to Wendy's but not to celebrate but to feed the hungry pythons residing in our big bellies. As usual, drive-thru lang ang katapat namin. After our 'celebration' we went to OUR house...woo hoo! We just sat around [on the floor] and tried to savor the moment...hehe. The little one played with her bubbles in the back porch while hubby and I laid down on the floor watching her play. Now for the 'fun' part....MOVING! We're not doing 'one big move'. Instead we're doing it little by little. The drapes and blinds a...

My Day in Retrospect...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So I didn't have the best day today...what else is new, right? I waited the whole day for "that call"...ya know, the one that would tell me we would be closing already. Nada! BUT...there is a chance that we may - MAY - just do it tomorrow. The husband said that the lady at the builder called him at around 4 PM and told him that it may happen tomorrow. Finally??? Nah...I wouldn't say that yet because it hasn't happened yet. They gave us a lot of 'maybes' that I no longer put my hope on them. As for our cable saga , here's the conclusion of it...LOL! A few hours after speaking with the second customer service personnel, I got a call from their CS. The phone conversation went this way. Me: Hello? CS: Hi, this is from the cable company. We just want to let you know that we have a service personnel knocking at your door right now. Me: Huh? No you don't. CS: Is this....[she went on to recite the address of the NEW HOUSE.....
Sitting and Waiting....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ...for that call from my husband telling me that "We will be closing today!" Yep, it hasn't happened yet and I am getting really tired of waiting. What's the hold up? How about incompetent people who can't do their jobs right the first time??? We have been waiting for the closing for about a month now...and I am about to lose my patience. It seems that people are in the wrong line of work because they don't know what they are doing. An example: The person in-charge [PM, maybe?] from the builder said that the sod can be put right before we move in or right after we move in. That's fine with us so we agreed. Guess what? After a day or so he called the husband and said that the bank wants the sod put in before closing! Huh??? Didn't he know that? He's only been doing this job for years. As a result of his incompetence, we had to wait for more than a week for the sprinkler people to put the sprinkler in...then anoth...

Not Bad....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Not bad"...that's what our little one keeps saying everytime we go visit our new house. We laugh everytime we hear her say that. She saw the house during construction and she didn't like the mess she saw whenever we visited during those days. She said that that it's too dirty and she'd rather stay in our current house. She was even worried that she would have to clean the bathroom herself. And being the good mother that I am...I told her that she IS going to clean that mess in the bathroom. LOL!! So you can just imagine her surprise and happiness the first time she saw the 'clean' new house. So now, she's always saying "not bad" and keeps asking when we will be moving in.
Search is On!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yep, the search is on…search for furniture and other things we need for the house. Actually, the search has been going on since construction started but we now need to get in gear in finding say speaker mount …or else our speakers will be stashed in the garage and we don’t want to do that. So I have to really look harder for the mounts. Glad I stumbled upon SpeakerandMounts.com. It has all kinds of mounts that I am looking for. I guess I don’t have to search anymore, huh?

We Made It....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We're home and we made it out alive!! Haha..I'm exaggerating of course. We had one busy Saturday. Well, to me anyway. We got home about an hour ago, well about 2 hours maybe, from our appointments. We only had 2 appointments but we were out of the house from 9 AM - 4 PM. We met with the 'drapery people'...I meant person. We only met with the owner of a local drapery company. He's an older guy who is originally from New York. He's very nice and very helpful as we were practically clueless as to what we want. He gave us plenty of options and suggestions which we of course gladly took. We had the meeting from about 9:30 - 12 noon. He took a liking to our little one and gave her a toy kangaroo right there and then. He also promised to make her something special for the blinds in her bedroom...nothing big but I find it very sweet because he noted it on the paper. He told her it's a surprise...which is not good because now I have to ...
Where Was PinayWAHM on Memorial Day???
Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ H-O-M-E-!!! Where else?? LOL... Yep, we were in the house in the morning but we went to the new house after lunch. Last time I wrote an update , I mentioned that the we were waiting for the sod people to put the sod in place on Saturday as the sprinklers were installed already. Saturday came and went by and we didn't get any call from the sod people. The husband thought that maybe they didn't work since it's the holiday weekend. Surprise, surprise! The owner of the sod company called this morning letting us know that they did in fact started putting down sod on Saturday and that he was in the property finishing up - on Memorial Day! So my husband had to drive up there to meet up with him. Why? Because we had to pay him for our part of the sod. The builder only paid so much and we had to cover the rest. Hmmp! Anyway after meeting up with him, my husband called me to ask if I wanted to go down the property...yes, he had to come back here and pick ...

Busy??

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yep, I got a bit busy today. I have not done my hopping as I usually do. I did some 'hit backs' but that's about it. So what have I been up to? Well, work for the most part. Today is also laundry day so I had to do that in between my coding. I didn't blog as you can probably tell from the lack of posts today. This is my first one for the day actually. I will probably do a couple more before I go to bed. It's been rainy this Thursday afternoon in our neck of the woods. It's not hard rain but more of a drizzle. I guess that's good as it's been really dry last week so the weather man here was reminding us all the time of 'fire'. Now that problem is solved. Some updates [again] about our house. I posted last week that the Project Manager was looking into doing the closing with the house this week. Unfortunately, it didn't happen and it won't be happening this week as it's already Friday tomorrow. Actually ...
Almost There...
Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Almost but not quite yet. I'm talking about our house...yeah, the one I've been blogging about everyday, day in day out...that one. Anyway, I just thought I'd post the earliest and latest pictures of it here. This will serve as my 'house diary'..haha. I'm not sure when the before pictures were taken but it's probably in late January or early February. The after were taken yesterday, Easter Sunday - March 23, 2008. Before - Front After - Front Before - Back After - Back Those are the husband and the daughter in the picture. They wouldn't move so I took the picture anyway. Just so you know, the builder didn't put them there....haha..kidding!
