Dimensions marathon 1: The Final Day

The long night, as I had to pull out all the stops (well, in a manner of speaking) to obtain at least 115 more gold bricks to reach my target.

I went about this by first trying to clear up some game world hubs that had a few left to be at 100%.

As a result, the first Dimension to be completed was the Legends of Chima world, where I needed half a dozen remaining bricks.

Next, I cursed on the Scooby Doo level, as I really suck at the races in the game, and I had three bricks left, two of them being well, races.

The third Dimension I cleared was back to the Future, where I spend a good hour searching for the last brick, time hopping along the way... only to find out I forgot the one that needed you to blow up 5 watertowers in the 1885 version of the world.

After that, it was mostly about getting as much `easy` bricks from Dimensions that needed more then 10 bricks still to complete, still avoiding the dreaded Midway and portal 2 worlds.  So I went through ET, Doctor Who, both Ghostbusters and Fantastic Beasts, as well as Harry Potter where the only missing brick now requires Mission: Impossible.  As I don`t have that level pack yet, it`ll be for a later time (the hire a hero and dress up game don`t work well together, you time out before completing the puzzle).

But in the end, I obtained... 117 Golden bricks, putting my total now to 602 in the game, that is far over half of the ones that can be collected.  But it was a short rest that left me afterwards.

I`ll be doing another, smaller target marathon, somewhere near the end of april, to play around with some new packs I`ll have by then, like this one:

And then a big marathon around september as most of the wave 2 sets should be out then and I can make a push to the high numbers of gold bricks.  But in the meantime, I`ll be playing on and off for sure, it remains such a great game.

Game on!

Dimensions Marathon 1: day 4

Ah, this has been a good night for sure.

Now that all the regular levels are complete, I could grind away in the pen-ultimate evening from this first marathon.

And the results showed, as I cleared out the remainder of Middle Earth, putting that world to a close.

But not only that, in on and off jumping into other Dimensions, I added a lovely 46 gold bricks to the total.  That means that tonight, I`m going for the big push to get at least 115 bricks to reach the goal of 600.

Now, in addition to the red brick from the A Team world, I also got the hidden Vorton Disco brick.  This unlocks as soon as you total 480 gold bricks (the amount, but not the exact bricks, of Year One), so that`s of the target list as well.

All in all, I`m now at an already decent 485 bricks, which is over a third of all the bricks in the game...

See you all tomorrow for the finale, and if I reached my projected 600 bricks!

Dimensions Marathon 1: day 3

It`s been a loooooong night, as I have been hunting around in levels until 4 this morning.

But I did manage to complete some "goals" I wanted to get in this 5 day streak of Dimensions: get every remaining minikit and captured person of all the season 1 levels.

The first I managed to do this with was that horrible Midway Arcade level.  I really suck at those old arcade games, so this was a tedious job to get them all completed.

Next, one of the greatest franchises in the game was on the menu (though like Midway, i`m not to fond of the hub world, I tend to get lost in there), Portal 2.

The Ghostbusters level was also completed front to back.

As was Doctor Who, including a trip to the UNIT base hidden in the level.

Now, all in all that means I didn`t get that many golden bricks as such, clocking off at only 8 for this session, BUT it does free up a lot of time for the future plays on the game, as well as opening up some more golden brick events in the hub worlds themselves.

So for now the tally is at 439 golden bricks, and two nights to go to
1. Complete as many season 1 hubworlds possible.
2. Get to at least 600 golden bricks.

Game on!

Dimensions Marathon 1: day 2

Here we are with the second day of trying to get to 600 gold bricks, while doing some other stuff in this awesome game at the same time.

Now, past night I did get to play, but I was just wandering around basically without a plan...

This resulted in some dimensional hopping and picking up some "easy" bricks, gathered in the worlds of The Simpsons and the (original) Ghostbusters.

All in all, a measly 14 bricks have been gathered, putting my total for the moment at 431 now.

Well, at least I`m having a lot more time near the end of the week normally...

Dimensions Marathon 1: day 1

And we are off in the hunt for 600 bricks and some other goals...

Now, as I said in the introductionary post yesterday, the first thing to do would be to use the new models I recently got, and so I did.

Unfortunatly, this also means I didn`t obtain to many things though... I played through the new Adventure Time level, which is colourfull and okay.  I played better levels in the game, but definitly also worse.

The result towards the goal as such is only a measly 3 golden bricks so far, and I unlocked the red brick from the Adventure Time hub.  As well as scoring the three bronze trophies for the trophy list of the game.

So the counter now stands at 417 golden bricks obtained.

See you all tomorrow for the next small update!

Dimensions Marathon 2 result

So I planned a second marathon to get those 480 bricks out of the way at last the past week, since I would be taking care of the GF with her sprained ankle anyways.

But due to circumstances, it was a failure in the end...

I had aimed to get at least 375 bricks, and had an excellent start to this goal.  The first session made me complete every minikit collecting of the "base" game, completed both the DC and the Lego Movie worlds to their 100% and granted me 41 gold bricks overall.

The day after, I managed to smack another 20 bricks to the tally, bringing me to 371 total then.  This would definitly be going the good way... and then the weather kicked in.

Including temperatures over 40 degrees (this pic was taken thursday at 19.30, you can imagine the heat during the daytime), I preferred to move away from the room near that window (where the tele and ps3 are located) and go sit in a slightly colder area and build that Battlestar I featured yesterday.

Oh well, I`ll smack some more bricks on a later date then, I still have a month before the awesome looking year 2 comes out...

Dimensions Marathon part 2

Well, as planned I`m going to hunt for more gold bricks with Lego Dimensions this week, the goal of getting all of them before I buy Year 2 still open.

Though as the London Bus will be the promotional overhere come October, I`ll be holding back on buying anything from the second range before then...

At orders of 55+ to qualify, the Story pack should yield me a bus, and a couple of seperate packs another.

Now, with the GF stuck at home with her sprained ankle, that also means I`m on nurse duty, so I can just sit and relax while trying to get as many as possible.  Currently being at 310 / 480, I aim to get to 375 at least this week, preferably even breaking the 400 "barrier".

Which might take a while if many a racing brick still needs to be obtained, and I`m terrible at those things...

Dimensions Marathon Result

Well, like I stated last weekend, the past 5 days I had some free time to put in some decent gaming sessions into Lego Dimensions.

Wanting to push closer to the 480 Gold Bricks in both the past week, as well as the last week of august where I can do it again, the poratl was powered up and the hunt began.

And I did rather okay actually, raising my meagre 152 bricks to a more decent 310 at the moment.

I also completed all Dimesnion World and all Levels their Rulebreaker requirement, collected the last remaining red bricks I missed and 100%'ed the Dimension of Ninjago.

Not to shabby at all, so end of august I`m going to aim first and foremost to get as many bricks from the other Dimensions as well, as I`d love to end with around 400 when Year 2 arrives.

We`ll see if the calendar co-operates...

Dimensions Marathon

With Year 2 only about a month away, it`s time to put in some real effort on my Dimensions game.

While I`ve platinummed it ages ago, I still have a lot of gold bricks to pick up left and right, and I want to have as good as all done by the time the excellent new stuff arrives, like the Fantastic Beasts line et all.

I`m going to do this in a few "phases", and if I`ll stick to it, I should be able to come close to the 480 mark in the end.

1. Obtain "Rulebreaker" in the few remaining unexplored Dimensions

2. Clean up the regular levels for the odd minikit or character left and right.

3. Clean up the Dimension worlds.

I`m planning on spreading this in two weekly "marathons", the coming week to get the rulebreaker and levels done, the last week of august to clean up the Dimension worlds themselves (including a lot of those dreaded racing thingies urgh).

But now, time to fire up the PS3...

Platinum: Lego The Hobbit (PS3)

Fresh of the roll call, I added another platinum to my Playstation Collection.

You see, after a month long break, due to Dimensions, I finally managed to get that last 4% completion done in the game.

While I LOVE the Lego Tolkien franchise, and I thought the The Lord of The Rings game (which was responsible for getting me out of the Dark Ages to start with years ago) was awesome... The Hobbit was less so.

Not that it is a bad game, not at all, and some puzzles for mithril bricks are rather challenging, but it has one big flaw.

The camera movement sucks, making some obstacle courses a real frustration run.  I spend more then 1.5 hour tonight for the bloody rope and balance race around the rooftops of Rivendell for example, as the screen just didn`t angle well to estimate the jump.

On the other hand, it does tell the tale of the first two movies in the nice and funny way... though it remains a shame that initially promised DLC content for the third and final film, Battle of the Five Armies, never materialised.

But it did have Tom Bombadil at least (though not as `uber` a character as he was in LOTR).  Never the less, my most used characters in freeplay where Tauriel (Elves, like in the LOTR game, are a bit of the best choice, and if you need to choose between her and Legolas...) and Bifur (for all the ore mining needed to forge things).

A funny and good storyline game all in all, with some great (and hilarious at times) side quests... but it remains a shame for the camera thingie.

The Haul Report #14

I know, I normally do this on sunday mornings, but I moved it forward a few hours for a good reason.

Today, we had a small Lego gathering, and I promised not to blog about it before tomorrow or monday evening to not steal the spotlights from the lovely couple that organised it.

Add to it that I did some excellent trades on the event (well, through the FB group, with people that came to the lunch), so I could close off the week in style.

But let`s begin at, well, the beginning.  Last saturday, I received the texts that my pre-orders where in at the local Game Mania.  So tuesday afternoon I picked up my PS3 and Vita copies of the new Marvel Avengers game, and a duo of Silver Centurions to boot.

Next, it was time to open some BrickLink parcels.

The first was a small order for more red cheese slopes, to decorate my Corrington builds with.

Another order contained some tan parts, always handy, and 100+ small light bley studs for my `streets` in the same city.

The final one was the `used complete` set of the Captain`s Cabin for the Queen Anne from Pirates of the Carribean, a ship which you will see showing up at the end of this particular post...

I also received a parcel from a fellow Facebook`er, containing the parts for 5 `redcoats` and some additional torsos.  I had traded those with him for 5 bluecoats and some, well, bluecoat torsos.

My bi-monthly `magic bundle` order from Awesome Books arrived as well, containing some more novels for my Alexander Kent `Bolitho` series.

And then the week slowed down, and we went to said meeting.

The first thing I picked up there was this small City set.  I bought it from someone that bought it double by accident, and for the price she actually paid for it, and it`ll end up as trade material itself, City not being my, but a lot of people out there, thing.

Then the trading started.  The first one was with the guy I also traded the Queen Anne with.  Ever back at the AFOL Night in october 2015, he had this at the side for me, in case I had some superhero polybag he fancied, and I had a Jor-El one lying on the side.  As we met today, we exchanged the bags at last :-)

But he also brought me the Queen Anne.  As I said before, the Helicarrier was a bit of a let down for me, and used complete on Bricklink it goes about the same rate as the Queen Anne these days.  So I had placed a post in the group that I wanted to trade, and trade only, the Helicarrier for the elegant sailing ship.  My dutch friend had one, he wanted the SHIELD behemoth, and we worked it out.  So the big pirate ship will soon be joining my Black Pearl on my shelves.

But I came back with another ship as well.  The `spanish armada` flagship, some flags and palmtrees, and a bunch of redcoats came to me in exchange for an old space set, which I traded with another member of the LCC Facebook group.

Because let`s face it, trading and exchanging is still a more enjoyable way to get your things together, especially older sets, then just selling something off and buying things you want.  And I also saw already in the group he couldn`t wait to build his spaceship until tomorrow, it`s already assembled and in his collection, so I`m happy, he`s happy, and we both have a great feeling about new gems in our collection.

And then saving for last, my Series 15 sealed box of Minifigures was brought along to the meeting as well, so one of the days I can open the box, crack the packages, and sort in the `figures I need`, `figures I`ll be using parts from` and `for trade` piles :-)

Well, that`s the whole shabang for this report, until next week!

Platinum: Lego Dimensions

The latest platinum trophy of a Lego game to adorn my virtual trophy rack, is the Lego Dimensions game.

Now the funny thing is, you don`t need to do everything like in regular Lego games to get this.

You can platinum the game using only the three characters from the base set, though this will be hard to get the 30 minikits that way though, but apparently it IS possible.  Now, my main addition to the team where the Witch from Oz to blast silvers, and Legolas because he is faster in foot speed.

But this doesn`t mean I`m far from through with it, as there are still all the level packs, the various hub worlds, all those red and gold bricks etc etc etc... in other words, still hours and hours of game material in it.

But if you`re going for the high trophy, the Portal level under 25 minutes is a real pain, probably one of the hardest trophies in Lego games.

For me now, I`m off to Middle Earth again, to complete those last 5% or so of The Hobbit, so I can add that to the shelf as well before the year is up :-)
