Minifigs S Range Ancients and more old stuff to id

I was fortunate indeed to pick up a largish collection of old school miniatures including a great selection of the old S ('Special') ancients ranges from Minifigs - bear in mind these were released around May 1968. It's a slow process to work everything out however the VINTAGE20MIL blog is a gold mine of information. Thanks John Cunningham!

Onto the pics - these are quick pics I took whilst unpacking and will sort everything out for another post at some point. Lots of Hinchliffe and Garrison along with Skytrex/Leicester Micro Model and Minifigs microarmour and galleys (thanks Rick P for your help identifying). If you can help id anything please let me know. A few extras at the bottom for more internet points!

Mostly early AR although there's a sneaky Byzantine bowman there.

Greeks.

Romans.

A wonderful haul of the early Samurai range - unfortuntely a lot were drilled and replacement weapons added. Understandable for gaming but a bit of a 'Doh!' moment.

The joy of a G&B baggie of gladiators!

Micro Armour - a bt mix of companies I think. Both Cannon Miniatures and Leicester Micromodels used wire for barrels and Minifigs didn't have barrels? Assume you supplied your own. The lying down German Infantrymen are Minifigs... the rest open to conjecture!

Galleys are Skytrex (thanks Rick) - one will be finding its way into my Series 77 Greek Hoplite with boy on his shoulder as it came missing the toy galley and I think one of these will be the perfect replacement. 15mm are possibly Peter Laing?

A coupe of Greek Hoplites... any thoughts?

A Draco standard but I can't find a reference for it!

Any idea on the horse? No markings.

Not sure on this one. He's on his way - possibly an early one piece castingAssyrian/Persian?

Separately I managed to pick up the re-designed Samurai SAM2. Slow process but we're getting there.

As always leave a comment or give me a shout;

Little Lead Soldiers Ltd - Greenwood & Ball

I picked up this little lot (every pun intended) off eBay recently as I'd never heard of them... according to the leaflet they are old Greenwood & Ball miniatures although they certainly didn't look like traditional G&B to me but then I did some research and found the company is still producing the miniatures... more below.

All supplied with these lovely stamped tin? bases...

The company's website; http://www.littleleadsoldiers.com/

They have many pics on the site and a full catalogue here. My pics at the top seem to be from the Greenwood & Ball old museum range... take a look at the website and have a good browse. They've moved to France now however have a full mail order service. Lots of interesting old school style miniatures.

Greenwood & Ball catalogue 1978

I posted the catalogue as pics a couple of years back (here) but just found it again and thought I'd scan as a PDF as they seem preferable. Great trip down memory lane as always. I've put it as 1978 but not 100% certain of the exact year. Certainly close though!

PDF file is on my Google share drive below, it will open in a new window and should allow you to view / download it etc.

There's a 1975 catalogue (JPGs, not PDF though) here.

If you like the blog, please follow it and become a Politico please (top left) - it makes me feel like I'm appreciated! Also, if you fancy buying me a coffee, I'm always grateful... miniature collecting is thirsty work.

Any thoughts please leave a comment and/or email me on enquiries@deartonyblair.co.uk

Greenwood & Ball Ltd 1977 or 1978 catalogue...

Well folks, I hope you're all keeping well in these 'interesting times' we live in. As part of my 'staying sane' I was sorting some bits & bobs out and came across this old catalogue so thought some of you may find it interesting. As far as I'm aware John Braithwaite designed all the wargames miniatures but wasn't credited in the catalogue. Not sure if it's '77 or '78 though so if anyone knows please leave a comment! I always found Garrison minis a little on the slim side with too large spear shafts but each to their own. Rob Young took over the old Garrison range some years back but it wasn't commercially viable to keep it going unfortunately (edit, not so, see Rob's comment below). I certainly filled a few gaps in my collection though, thanks Rob! Images of most the Sword & sorcery range are on the Lost Minis WIKI.

On to the catalogue... quite large images so hopefully suitable for saving and/or printing out.
