Haru and his mother live in Tokyo's Fujimizaka neighborhood. In October 2016, Haru receives an Appli Drive and encounters Gatchmon. His mother knows nothing about the Appli Drive and doesn't notice Gatchmon's presence in the house.
One night, Haru's mother hears Denemon's voice coming from her son's bedroom, but she's convinced she's mistaken because Denemon has been missing for years. In fact, it was the Appli Drive that spoke. The next morning, Haru asks her about his grandfather, and she shows him a rare photo they managed to take of him. Following the photo's clues, Haru and his friends find Denemon's old lab.
When Leviathan materializes in the Real World and launches the program to transform humanity into apps, Haru's mother is reduced to a data set and sent to the Dark Web. After the end of Leviathan, Haru's mother and all other humans return to normal.
