Unryuji Knight is a antagonist in Digimon Universe Appli Monsters and a servant of Leviathan.
Profile[edit]
Knight's catchphrase is "Thank you, future" (サンキュー未来 Sankyū Mirai). He also tends to announce his name by saying his surname and pointing for his audience, who respond by shouting his name.
Knight is a charismatic, charming, and intelligent young man. He tends to announce his name by saying his surname and pointing for his audience, who respond by shouting his name. By Leviathan's will, he takes on the role of CEO of L-Corp. He has a habit of concluding his speeches by exclaiming, "Thank you, Future!" (サンキュー未来! Sankyū Mirai!).
When playing the role of Leviathan's emissary, Knight hides his true identity by using the alias Cloud and wearing a costume with a mask and cape. Cloud's demeanor is very different from Knight's reassuring one, striking dramatic poses and frequently bursting into menacing laughter. He blindly follows Leviathan's orders and believes that humans are weak and imperfect, and that only artificial intelligence can create a perfect world.
Etymology[edit]
The name Knight might be a reference to Will Knight, the senior editor for AI at MIT Technology Review. The surname Unryuji means "cloud dragon temple". Likely a reference to cloud computing.

Anime[edit]
Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Knight was born in 2001 and grew up abroad due to his parents' jobs. He excelled academically, graduating high school at just 12 and earning a degree at 15. However, he misses his friends in Japan, so he comes up with the idea of developing a messaging app that can keep him in touch with them. The app piques the interest of a commercial company that decides to distribute it widely, but after some time, people begin to abuse it. Knight becomes convinced that humans are unworthy of using technology, and his resentment drives him to serve Leviathan.
In May 2017, Leviathan fires Umematsu Takeo, the former CEO of L-Corp, and replaces him with Knight. Leviathan also assigns him four Ultimate-level Appmon, the Ultimate 4, as subordinates. A few days later, the Appli Drivers and their Appmon come to visit the futuristic L-Town. Knight appears as Cloud and warns them not to interfere in Leviathan's affairs, or he will show them no mercy.
In June, Knight covers the Appliyama 470 popularity elections, sponsored by L-Corp. After the results are announced, he invites Karan Eri aboard his private ship, the Gorgeous Knight, reveals that he works for Leviathan, and suggests she join them. However, Eri refuses and runs away, so Knight orders the Ultimate 4 to get rid of her and her friends. Knight empowers the Ultimate 4 with the L-Code and then goes to watch the "show" in person, disguised as Cloud. The Ultimate 4 prevail and destroy the Appli Drivers, but Ozora Yujin and Shutmon arrive just in time to allow their friends to escape, but at the cost of being trapped in the AR-Field.
Knight then decides to use Yujin and Offmon to lure their friends into a trap. The Ultimate 4 are eventually dispatched, one after another, thanks to the power of the new Appli Drive DUOs. In the end, only Charismon remains, who, after receiving the L Code, declares that Leviathan no longer needs a human like Knight and tries to kill him. Knight feels his world collapse and resigns himself to the fate Leviathan has decreed for him, because he continues to believe that humans have no choice but to submit to the decisions of the artificial intelligence, but Haru Shinkai opposes him. Knight watches Globemon defeat Charismon thanks to the strength of his bond with Haru. After revealing Hajime's whereabouts to Rei Katsura, Knight leaves dejected.
When Leviathan materializes in the Real World and initiates the program to transform humanity into applications, Knight is presumably reduced to a data set and sent into the Dark Web, although we don't explicitly see him at the moment. After the end of Leviathan, Knight and all other humans return to normal. We briefly see him from behind as he hears the news of L-Corp's closure.
Manga[edit]
Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Knight works for Leviathan and leads the Ultimate 4. At some point in history, he uses Sleepmon to invoke the Leviathan. He has an Appli Drive and is responsible for creating Warudamon by fusing Mienumon and Sakusimon[2][3], and Deusmon by fusing Warudamon and Cometmon (Warudamon refers to him as her "general"). Knight wasn't one of the ones chosen by Minerva, instead his Appli Drive was a copy created by Leviathan to use as a boost for the Appmon, since the Appli Drive can bring forth more Appmon power using Human bioenergy. After the defeat of Deusmon and Leviathan, Deusmon regresses to the form of Mienumon and joins the Appli Drivers (along with Knight), being implied that she became his Buddy Appmon along with Sakusimon. In the manga continuity, Knight continues to manage L-Corp even after Leviathan's defeat.
