Karan Eri is one of the protagonists in Digimon Universe Appli Monsters.
Profile[edit]
Eri is a determined girl with a strong personality who goes out of her way to help others. She's part of an idol group called Appliyama 470, and when she plays her role, she usually comes across as quite exuberant and confrontational, even at times arrogant and haughty, but she actually hides a sweet, kind, and sensitive personality. Before joining Appliyama 470, she was also quite prone to loneliness. Her catchphrase as an idol is "I'll punch my way into your heart! I am the centre of the universe, so call me Lord Karan Eri!" (あなたのハートにドッカンパンチ！私こそが宇宙のセンター、花嵐エリ様なんだからん！ Anata no hāto ni dokkanpanchi! Watashi koso ga uchū no sentā, Karan Eri-sama nandaka ran!). Eri dedicates herself to her idol career with commitment, perseverance, and seriousness, rejecting any kind of favoritism. Her desire is to make other people happy, especially her mother.
Etymology[edit]
The name Eri possibly comes from ELIZA, an early computer program. Although the software ELIZA is pronounced "Iraiza" (イライザ) in Japanese, the name "Eliza" can be written as エリザ (Eriza). Also from Ellie, an AI therapist software able to detect depression. The surname Karan means "flower storm".

Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Eri was born in 2002 and lives in Tokyo with her mother, who works a lot and therefore often comes home late. One evening in March 2016, Eri watches a concert by Kagurazaka Izumi, a famous idol, on TV and is struck by her infectious cheerfulness. Shortly afterward, she finds an Appli Drive and meets Dokamon, but decides to keep her chip hidden while she embarks on her journey to becoming an idol. At the tryouts, Izumi helps her overcome her nerves with good advice, and Eri is accepted into Appliyama 470.
On November 3rd, Eri meets Haru and Gatchmon, but is reluctant to get involved in the battles with the Appmon infected by the L-Virus until Dokamon convinces her. Eri and Haru become friends, and some time later, Haru introduces them to Astora, with whom they initially disagree due to their oversized egos. In December, Rei steals Ropuremon and Gomimon's chips from Haru. The kids try to follow her trail through the Net Ocean, but instead end up ambushed by Sakusimon. Unexpectedly, Rei and Hackmon rush to help, forcing Sakusimon into a strategic retreat. Eri and the others discover that Hajime, Rei's younger brother, has been kidnapped by Leviathan. After Sakusimon's defeat, Rei returns the chips, but then goes on her own.
On January 14th, Eri and Astora battle Tellermon, who is infected by the virus. Astora nearly falls from a roof while in the AR-Field, but Eri grabs his hand and saves him. A few days later, Eri, Dokamon, and the others accompany Haru to her grandfather Denemon's old laboratory and meet Timemon, who shows them the story of Leviathan and Minerva, the creator of the Appli Drive.
Between battles, Eri continues to focus on her idol career. At the Fujimizaka New Year's Festival, she holds her first concert, which draws many spectators. Towards the end of February, she trains with Coachmon because she wants to pass an Appliyama 470 audition and have the opportunity to thank Kagurazaka Izumi . Coachmon actually works for Leviathan, but is moved by Eri's willpower and decides to sincerely help her. Dosukomon evolves into Oujamon with the help of Coachmon, and defeats Weatherdramon, the last of the Seven Code Appmon. Mienumon, however, steals the Chip and escapes into the Deep Web, pursued by the Appli Drivers and their Appmon.

Eri makes an appearance in of the sub-quests while in the midst of searching for the Seven Code Appmon.
Later on, Eri and Dokamon participate in the Hifumigaoka vs Fujimizaka 4v4 friendly tournament (交流戦, Kōryū-sen) in the Cyber Arena during the special post-game episode. She is defeated by Naoto in the first round.
