i don’t know if it’s because i have insomnia myself or the fact that i read this faster than i could blink but i absolutely loved this book.

i don’t know if everyone will love this but surely it’s for me! i loved how it felt like scooby do but adult, i loved the graveyard setting and i loved this weird friend group they formed. i loved that not every character was a college student and that every character had something personal going on even with how short this book is.
one of my favorite tropes is when the found family is an unlikely group, where they form a found family relationship but either the characters hated each other beforehand or they’re so vastly different you wouldn’t expect them to be friends and surprisingly this book does that well! i think Rio does a good job at writing found family’s or group dynamics in general and i hope to see more of that from her in the future.
i do agree with everyone on the fact that it should’ve been longer but mostly because i fell in love with the characters and wanted more from them. i do think it’s the perfect length for this story because i actually don’t think for me that it would’ve worked as a full length novel....more

such a fun quick read.
i do feel like the relationship moved to fast in the sense that they literally went from rivals to lovers but there was nothing in between that. i understand because the romance wasn’t the main part of the book but i do wish it were drawn out better. the vampire club scene was my favorite thing ever and is why the book has 4 stars instead of 3.
I was really worried when i started this story that there was going to be an intimate relationship between them and the teacher but that’s what i respect about the book because it focuses on the negatives that can happen with teacher/student relationships and how much they seek validation from someone that holds all the power. not just by being their teacher but also being an older vampire....more

i just love El so much and her character development in this book was great. She’s so funny but she also really cares for the people in her life even though she pretends not to, even Orion. she’s so strong because even though she has the prophecy she doesn’t let that stop her. I loved the side characters and everyone coming together. AND THAT CLIFFHANGER?? cant wait to see my besties again next year....more

all of my anticipated releases of 2022 being 2 stars reads just shows how fucking terrible 2022 was for me.
let’s just get right into it.
i didn’t care. i didn’t care about what was going on. i didn’t care about the plot. i didn’t care about the characters. not like RFK gave them any personality to care for them anyways, which sucks cus my favorite thing about the poppy war was the characters. this book was just so boring like it followed the mundane every day life of robin when it really should’ve spent it’s time giving the characters personalities besides one trait each. by the time the plot did come into the book i was just bored out of my mind that i couldn’t bring myself to care. the only reason i finished is because i had been reading since 5am and i was very dedicated to my reading vlog i’m filming for this book. so disappointing especially because it’s RFK and dark academia :/...more

everyone in this book was so fucked up but i loved it, it was kinda like dark academia but with teachers and i thought that was fun. the pacing was a bit off sometimes and i think the only thing that stopped me from giving this book 5 stars was that i thought it was gonna be plot twisty but that’s my own fault considering you learn everything as the book goes on so there was nothing to really get plot twist from. i love that everything tied together in the end. such a fun read....more

I mean, of course i did. it’s dark academia. I enjoyed this world so much. This book in particular did have a lot of world building but i didn’t mind because there were so many things i found cool. For Example the moving stairs you couldn’t be on after classes because you don’t know where you’ll end up or the fact that you can’t be in your room after curfew. Also, these kids were crazy as hell and literally was trying to kill the main character El.
I know a lot of people don’t like El but i personally loved her. I feel like i really understand her and maybe that’s because i see myself in her? She’s so stubborn and i love the fact that she was a boss bitch. She was so smart and came up with things i probably would’ve never thought of.
I really loved the romance as well. Orion is such an interesting character and the fact that he was always saving El was so funny to me. Their romance kind of gave off grumpy x sunshine vibes. El being the grumpy and Orion being the sunshine. He was such a golden boy but the fact that they understood each other and related to each other was so sweet.
I also really enjoyed the writing. I need to check out some of Novik’s other books because the writing in this one was so amazing.
This book was so great and i honestly can’t wait until the next book. Especially after that ending? i need the second book like yesterday!...more

This book actually really did remind me of that but also with like.. dark academia. I really liked the mystery aspect of it. i think that her secretly being a guy was handled well.. i mean it wasn’t the best and could’ve been better but it still wasn’t problematic like i expected. also, i think that the friendships they formed in the end once they all figured out the truth really made me love it more. lastly, THAT ENDING THO...more
