Honestly, there were times that I was a little overwhelmed at how some of the story overlapped and doubled back. You really have to pay attention to make sure you don't miss any little detail or you will be left wonder what the hell you missed.
By the end of the book, I felt like I had been on a REALLY long rollercoaster ride. Kind of ready to get off of it, but still enjoyed the ride. I still would highly recommend this book and this series. It was an intriguing storyline and most of the characters were very likeable.
The voice actors did an amazing job on this one. I was immediately drawn in and immersed with the quality of their voices for the characters....more

That being saI don't read mafia tropes so this kind of caught me off guard as I didn't realize that it was a mafia trope when I was offered this ARC. That being said, overall it was a good book. It is labelled as a standalone, but I feel that it might be better if one was to read the previous book in the Tattered Curtain series, Phantom.
There were quite a few nods to other stories within this book. Romeo and Juliet, Orpheus and Eurydice, Le Moulin Rouge, La Dame aux Camélias (aka Camille). A little bit from each and mix them all up.
The story moves fast, super fast. The timeline is a little over 3 weeks, if you don't include the epilogue. I kind of felt like I had whiplash. I'm not a big fan of insta-love and I wasn't buying into Lacey and Kian's trope. It felt too contrived unfortunately, and I REALLY wanted it to suck me in. I mean, with all of the opportunity from the above mentioned stories, I was hopeful to get more meat out of it.
I will give some points for the steamy aspects of the storyline. There was some serious chemistry there and it gave each scene just the right amount of delicious heat.
In the end, the third act culminated in a resolution that anyone could see coming and left me feeling pretty empty and unfulfilled. Perhaps I was too expectant after such a build up.

Charlie and Sam get their story in Fierce. Charlie is struggling with his past, which is haunting his present. It's affecting his mental status. Somehow he's fragile yet somehow strong. Samuel is Charlie's exact opposite. He's ruthless, possessive, and very protective.
The twists and turns that the story takes just drag Charlie and Sam around. Sam offers Charlie so much comfort when he needs it and is fiercely protective of him. He drags Charlie out of his darkness when it gets too much.
The spice was sooo HOT! The author touched on a lot of my favorite points, which made it that much hotter. Strong hands, gripping hands, piercings, and praise kink…WHEW!! It was like an inferno!

That being said, I definitely recommend reading the previous book to get their backstory.
Fair warning, and the author has plainly stated up front, this book does NOT have a happy ending. The ending is devastating. It shredded me and I wasn't previously invested in these characters!
The story, however, is jam packed with emotion, action, and suspense. For a novella, the author sure knows how to weave a tale into a short number of words!

We meet Jesse & Riley, brothers who are a complete opposites from each other. Jesse is a bad boy with a dark past. Riley is sweet and loving, with a golden retriever personality. However, after this introduction, we are slung forward in time with no context or warning. Uhm, ok?
Drew is in a rough spot. She's a housekeeper by day and a call girl by night. Somehow she ends up in Jesse's apartment by mistake and he thinks she's his new housekeeper. Taking opportunity where she can, she just goes with it.
While I'm not usually a mafia romance reader, I am really happy that I gave this book a chance. The plot is intense and rich. The characters have depth and are independent, yet they are cohesive as they need to be. I appreciate a good romantic suspense and this one is rife with suspense. It keeps you trying to think ahead.

The prior 2 books in this trilogy each left us on brutal cliffhangers, so I wasn't really sure what to expect on this book honestly.
Of course, we picked right up where we left off in Corrupt Princess. Bri and Nico just CANNOT catch a break. I was getting so aggravated with it honestly. Like seriously how much can two people take before they just say…You know what? Eff this! - end scene. I probably would have. I guess they're made of tougher stuff than I am.
I am really not sure that there is a HEA. It "seems" like a HEA, but at the same time I feel like I should be suspicious. Plus, the twisty turning way that we got to the end made me kiiiinda wary about what I was reading. I hope you don't get too upset with my super vague review, but if I went into detail I'd be giving away too much in the spoiler department and that's just not my jam.

This book picks right up where we were left dangling off a cliff in Corrupt Knight and tucks us under it's arm and runs with us like we're a football in play.
Nico has a huge wake-up call shoved in his face. I *almost* felt sorry for him because absolutely not one person gives him an inch in this book. He had it coming, trust me, but I hate seeing someone get beaten down repeatedly even if they did deserve it initially.
I'm all for Bri pulling herself up by the boot straps and refusing to be Nico's doormat. She continues to give me hope with her resiliency and awesomeness.
Not a clue where this trilogy is going, but once again we are left precariously dangling off a cliff. Hopefully we won't have to wait long for Corrupt Union

This book is seriously highCorrupt Knight slots in as the 13th novel in theKnight's Ridge Empire series and the 1st novel in theCorrupt Trilogy.
This book is seriously high on the angst, and very emotional. I haven't read any of the Knight's Ridge Empire series, so I didn't have the luxury of knowing any of the foreshadowing of Nico and Bri's interactions or story.
I highly recommend reading the rest of the books before this one, but if you don't want to commit to that, you should be able to ferret out the logistics of where everyone fits easily enough.
As one would expect with being a part of the type of family he has, Nico has some weight on his shoulders. To make matters worse, his Siren (Bri) is now the assistant teacher at his school. This absolutely enrages him because it makes her off-limits, so he decides to make her life miserable.
Bri is a baddie for sure. She's independent and strong. She's not down to take any of Nico's nonsense, and isn't impressed by any of the material things that Nico offers if she will just "be his" beyond their trysts.
I enjoyed watching their relationship grow and flourish. The push and pull between them was intense, especially with outside influences.
