There wasn't enough swoony, happy relationship between Emily and Jackson to bump this up more. The whole book is him not showing emotion, only stating his commitment to Emily. And she's insecure because he won't give her any feelings to work with. He can talk to Harper but she can't talk to Mark as a friend.
Then the whole Matt, Irene, and Harper drama. There wasn't any closure to either of those issues....more

Let me get through part 2 and then I'll put it all together. Love triangle with a heroine that you want to slap upside the head.
It's been a while but I think this had similar vibes to K.A. Linde's Avoiding Commitment story.
I loved seeing their relationship progress, how sweet Jackson was to her with all of the little things he did, his thoughtfulness. Oh, and Julie is a bitch and I hope she gets what's coming to her.
Major spoilers, you've been warned. I need to re-cap this for my own sake to reference after book 2... (view spoiler)[ Emily is an indecisive, lonely, weak heroine that just wants a family. She doesn't care that her fiance is cheating on her and he only wants to marry her for money. She loves Jackson, the pseudo-brother, but he's a Navy SEAL that despite not being able to keep his eyes and hands off of her is adamant he never wants a wife or kids. Instead of her dumping Matt's cheating ass she lets him tell her how unloveable she is and he leaves her. Then she immediately runs upstairs and loses her virginity to Jackson. Matt's in an accident after he leaves, ends up with a brain injury and memory loss, she has to pretend she's still engaged for his health, goes on with her wedding day, all while she's secretly pregnant with Jackson's baby and won't tell him. TRAIN WRECK YA'LL!
Despite all this, it was a page turner because I couldn't wait to see how everything was going to play out and I immediately opened book 2 at 1 a.m. (hide spoiler)]...more

I enjoyed Knox and Emory's banter and the early days of their relationship progressing.
Things were really good up until a certain point in the book... (view spoiler)[ I can't stand huge time lapses in books. I feel like so much is lost over that time span. And as the years kept going by I just kept noting how sad I was about it. Then all of a sudden they reconnect 8 years later and BAM, happily ever after. I totally get her letting him go but I wish they would have stayed a little more connected and not let so many years pass before reconnecting. (hide spoiler)] Because of that alone, it made it more of a 3.5-4 star book for me. I'm glad they got their HEA though and overall it was an enjoyable read. ...more

Which is why this book was just so-so, and based on my ratings for the others, this one had to fall at a 3. Mostly because of Sabrina and the way their relationship dragged on. Tucker was such a sweet, caring, and patient guy. Even though they hooked up early, and we knew so from the bomb dropped at the end of book 3, it just read like a slow burn and I was ready for them to get together already and enjoy being in a relationship. I struggle when characters are into the other and you hear their internal dialogue often but they don't express it to the other person.
All in all though, great series! Looking forward to reading the spinoff series, Briar U. ...more
I liked this one well enough....Thatch and Cassie's fun relationship, their chemistry, and a little over the top witty banter. I don't know if it was I liked this one well enough....Thatch and Cassie's fun relationship, their chemistry, and a little over the top witty banter. I don't know if it was just life getting in the way or what, but I can normally finish a book in a week or two, however, I strung this one along for almost 2 weeks. It was a good time filler but the plot didn't keep me engaged or wanting more. ...more
