Google News Initiative reposted this
Earlier this year, at WAN-IFRA’s 76th World News Media Congress in Krakow, we announced the Global News Gaps Project. The initiative is focused on elevating engagement with emerging news providers providing quality journalism on important - often underserved - topics and communities. Since then, we’ve been delighted to receive more than 1500+ applications from digital native news organizations and news creators across the world. We’ve also been connecting with partners across the news industry who can help us provide additional value for the 300 participants that will be selected for the project. Today, we are excited to welcome The Associated Press to the Global News Gaps Project. The Associated Press, a global, independent news organization dedicated to factual reporting, is joining the initiative to provide a substantial number of selected partners with one year of access to AP content and training offerings. The packages will provide a range of AP content, including access to AP text, photos, video and audio services and world-class trainings from the AP's staff. To give digital natives and news creators interested in this offering an opportunity to apply, we’ll be extending the application deadline to September 8th. You can find the application form here: https://lnkd.in/esG4eW6y In addition to eligibility to receive an AP content package, publishers will also receive strategy consultations from FT Strategies and product trainings on Google tools. They will also be eligible to receive 2 years of membership in WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, and be eligible for funding to support lighthouse projects focused on addressing news gaps. A huge thank you to all who made this collaboration possible, including Kristin Heitmann, Sara Trohanis, Ivett Chicas, Irlinta Mavromati, Sharen Phillips, Miki, Jaffer Zaidi, and many others.
