PBL Reflection

The student was responsible for designing the menu and table setup for a farm-to-table event hosted by their photography and culinary classes. They created color schemes and layouts to effectively showcase photographs of the food. Through this project, the student learned they do not work well with large groups due to becoming overwhelmed and frustrated when others do not meet deadlines. However, they gained problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt when obstacles arise. No industry experts assisted on their specific role, but teachers provided guidance. The experience prepared the student for collaborative work beyond high school by teaching them to complete their own tasks independently of others.

Project-Based Learning Reflection

Class in which you did the project: Photography

Brief project description: We had to plan an event that involved the farm to table class and
photography to showcase the food and our photography.

Your role for the project: I was the designer so I was incharge of designing our menu and also
the setup for the tables and how things were going to be displayed.

What did you do, personally, to contribute to the overall project? Be specific!
My contribution was to really mess with the way that we tried to showcase the pictures with the
food. I also had to decide how we wanted the tables to be and what colors we wanted to use so
they all went well together.

What did you learn about yourself in terms of time management, personal responsibility,
problem-solving, collaboration, or other soft skills via this project?
Personally, I learned that I do not like working with a lot of people at once. I get fairly
overwhelmed and frustrated when people aren’t doing what they need to do. I learned that I am
capable of coming up with different solutions to fix an obstacle whether or not it was the way we
planned it or not.

If you had an industry expert or mentor who assisted with this project, what are some things that
you learned from this person?
I don’t really think we had an expert or anything at all with my part of the project. Mrs. Calson
and Ms. Bogner both did their best to help us in any way possible even when they were
frustrated with us and things weren’t getting done on time.

How has this experience helped prepare you for college or careers beyond high school?
This experience has prepared me because when I work with anyone out in the world, they might
not take the task as serious as I am. I have to do everything that I can to get things done even if
others aren’t.
