ASSEMBLY

1. Lightly stuff the snout and sew it on the center of the front of the hat approximately 2
rows above the trim. (this leaves room to sew the mouth on underneath. Sewing it more
elongated may be preferred to sewing it completely round. This option is up to you.)

2. Fold the mouth flat and whip stitch the ends closed. Sew the tongue to the top of the
mouth.

3. Sew the mouth to the hat beneath the snout.

4. Sew on the nostrils and sew the teeth onto the snout in desired position.

5. For Cartoon Eyes, if desired add a white dot for “glint” to the black pupil and then sew
the pupil of the eyes to the white backs.

For Serious eyes, add a white glint to the black pupil area if desired.

6. Sew the eyes to the front of the hat in desired position above the snout.

7. Sew scales onto hat. Large scale goes in front, medium scale second, and the two small
scales are in back of the hat. (Optional) I found it beneficial to stuff scales prior to
sewing them on. You can use fiberfill or cut an extra strand of yarn and stuff the scale
with the yarn.

8. Ensure that all ends are weaved in and fastened off.

For a more girly hat, add eyelashes or add a bow or flower to the hat.
Ties

For tri-color tassels: Cut 6 - 36” strands of each of the 3 colors used (18 Strands total).

Separate the strands into piles of 3 for each color. You should have 2 piles of 3 strands for each
color.

Take 1 pile of each color and put them together. String them through the bottom of the earflap
and ensure that both sides are even.

Separate the strings back into their respective groupings of individual colors in preparation for
braiding. Ensure strands are even before starting the braid.

When you get to the bottom of the tie, make a slip knot to secure the braid and trim the ends
even.

Repeat for the second earflap.

For striped tassels: Cut 8 – 36” strands of main color and 8 strands of Trim Color. (16 Strands
total).

Separate the strands into piles of 4 for each color. You should have 2 piles of 4 strands for each
color.

Take 1 pile of each color and put them together. String them through the bottom of the earflap
and ensure that both sides are even.

Separate the strings 4 strands for each color. You should have 2 groups for main color and two
groups Trim Color. Alternate the colors and begin a 4 way braid. This creates the striping
pattern.

When you get to the bottom of the tie, make a slip knot to secure the braid and trim the ends
even.

Repeat for the second earflap.
