A General Requirements
Saudi Aramco Paint Data Sheet for the coating system (APCS) applied is
provided.

Chemical analysis reports of the abrasive has been verified per SAIC-H- SAES-H-001,
A2 2024 and found to contain less than 50 ppm chlorides and sulfates. Para. 9.3.3
Note: Sand is prohibited to be used as abrasive as per GI-0006.021.

Personnel involved in protective coating activities has been qualified and SAEP-316,

certified to perfom their task. Para. 5.1

Quality Control Equipment Check Sheet (Attachment B) has been filled


out and signed by all relevant persons. Blasting Equipment is in good SAES-H-001 Para
A4
condition and safe to use. 10.2.1

B Pre-Cleaning Inspection (Prior to Blasting)

The substrate was solvent or detergent cleaned where presence of oil or SAES-H-001 Para

grease is observed. 8.3.1

Rough welds and cut-off are ground to a minimum radius. Weld Spatters SAES-H-001 Para

and surface laminations are removed. 8.3.2

C Surface Preparation

Blasting is carried out when the steel surface temperature is at least 3°C SAES-H-001,

above the dew point temperature. Para. 6.4.3

C2 Nozzle pressure is 620 kPa (90 psig) measured at the nozzle side.
8.1.4

Compressed air quality is checked at the start and at mid point of each 8
hour shift.
- Attach a piece of blotter or absorbent paper to a clip board, then

C3 - Reduce the nozzle pressure to 388 kpa (50 Psig)

- Hold the blotter approximately 45-60 cm in front of the blast nozzle for
one minute.
Blotter shall show no water or oil contamination.

Blasted surface areas are cleaned of spent abrasive:

The gloss shall be feathered out from the shop-applied FBE pipe coating
that will be overlapped by the field coating by light abrasive (sweep)

D CHLORIDE CONTAMINATION TESTING

The first blasted girth weld in each shift shall be tested for chlorides.
Residual chloride on the surface shall not exceed 20 mg/m² in accordance

with ISO 8502-6. Test one out of each successive 20 girth weld areas.

Note: Chloride test methods needs prior approval in writing by RSA/CSD
