Funny Fun Book

Thursday Game Day.

I managed to clean two more issues of a huge collection of the philadelphia Fun Book section from the late forties and early sixties.  They were edited by the later Channal Chuckles and Family Circus cartoon features. He often did the cover and had two comic strip pages. These later ones also included a whole week of colorized dailies from the western strip Hopalong Cassidy by Dan Spiegle. I still have couple. of issues to go. Since I have scanned them all, I may go and sell them on on ebay.

Laughing Out Not So Loud

Thursday Extra Day.

Bil Keane will always be best known for his saccharine family series The Family Circus. Especially the many Snday he did with the kid who blames a ghost, or the stippled line that show how one of the other kids took the long route from a to b. My personal favorite has always been his Channel Chuckles gag panel (daily and Sunday) that ran from long before The Circus was born until deep into it's run. But when exactly did it start? Today I went back and had a look. It seems Channel Chuckles was an immediate hit, probably due to the fact that it's onr column format was especiall made for use on the otherwise dull tv listing page. I narrowed my search to California papers and found six who started it from the beginning, february 15, 1954. The first three weeks are numbered, altough not every paper used them in the same order.

Pun Book

Sunday Fun Day.

To my surprise, the last time I shared some of by collection of the Philidelphia Record's Fun Book (edited by later Family Circus creator Bil Keane, with many features by him and even some covers) was in 2018. I have cleaned up a couple more and hope to keep it up until I have done all I have in my collection. Here is one I prepared earlier, as they say.
