The Best Medicin

Saturday Leftover Day.

This week I showed some work by Roy Doty. Some of the visitors pointed out several of Doty's books and illustrations that they remembered from their childhood. For me, he is best know from his work on the Sunday only newspaper panel related to The Laugh-In Show. Not from my youth, but because I got a huge amount of them. I have show some before and here are some more. It has been noted that the strip was hurt because it did not feature the cast of the television show. But if you look at it wtjout that ssociation, it is a pretty funny strip and probably one of the most Mad-like you'll find in the history of newspaper comics.

Un-Doty-bly

Wednesday Illustration Day.

Roy Doty did a lot of spot illustratios for various magazines. He was one of the artists promoting the 'mdern' style that would overtale alal cartooning in the sixties. Not unlike the more artistic Jim Flora, he has not been remembered as well. Only a few collectors know his name, but in the fifties he was everywhere. His biggest claim to fame for us comic collector types would be his run on the tv spinoff Laugh-In Sunday panel in the early seventies. I am cleaning up a larger lot of them, but here are some I did earlier (again).

A Lot Of Doty

Monday Cartoon Day.

Here are some more Sundays of the Laugh-In comic strip by recently deceased cartoonist Roy Doty. I have shown a different lot of `Sundays before and at that occasion some of my commenters noted that a. there was a daily version as wel and b. that the strip itself was probably hurt by the fact that Doty was allowed to use the name of the television program, but not the likeness of the actors.

LOL-IN

Monday Cartoon Day.

In the late sixties, Laugh-In wasn't only a fastpaced gagbased sketch program, but also a Sunday only gagbased newspaper strip by Roy Doty. Doty was a popular cartoonist in his day. So popular in fact, that he pretty soon became old hat and a representatvive of his age. And since his age ran into the seventies, Laugh-In as about the best example of his talents you can find.
