Saturday Leftover Day.
I have to confess that I have always been less of a fan of Smokey Stover than of it's companion strip Spooky. The often silent and always wonderfully slapsticky gags of Bill Hollman's black cat never fail to tickle my funnybone. So when I saw that I had a couple of stray episodes lying around, I had to share them.

Kooky
Tuesday Comic Strip Day.
Yesterday I showed a couple of early cartoons by Bill Holman and mentioned his strip Smokey Stover. I was never a big fan of Smokey, but Holman's companion strip Spooky is one of the funniest I know - mostly for it's use of nonverbal humor.

The Jokes On Me Again
Monday Cartoon Day.
I accidentally erased todays post, so I have to do it again. These are cartoons by Bill Holman, from early issues of 1000 (New) Jokes. I am currently selling my 100 Jokes collection on Ebay (follow the link on the right). Some of the earliest ones have already sold, but I am adding the unsold ones and new later ones this week.

Trip To The Foo
Tuesday Comic Strip Day.
Reminded by R. Harvey's excellent article about Bill Holman and his most famous creation Smokey Stover on the Comic Journal website (http://www.tcj.com/smokestack-foo-mania/) that the screwball artist started out with a Elzie Segar inspired cartoon series called The Billville Birds in the twenties, I went and clipped whatever I could find. And that turned out to be quite a lot and very enjoyable too. This may be my favorite Holman strip after Spookey.
