Er kam wie die Beatles mit einer unbekannten Beat-Gruppe in das Mekka des Beat, nach Hamburg, wo er heute noch wohnt Wenig spater war er bereits Organist, Mitarrangeur und Mitbegrinder der berihmten "WONDERLANDS".
Sein musikalischer Werdegang begann in der britischen Armee, genau gesagt bei den Royal Marines. Als Musikkadett lemte er sein Handwerk von Grund auf und besuchte viele Jahre das Konservatorium. Er spielte viele Instrumente, aber sein Hauptinstrument ist das Klavier, dem er klassisch genauso viel abgewinnt, wie als modemer Pop-Pianist.
Nach 12 Jahren verlieB er - kaum 25 — die britische Armee als Master-Band-Sergeant und deren jGngster Pensionar. Pensionare pflegen Hobbies und Les Humphries hat deren viele. Eines seiner wichtigsten ist das Arrangieren und er wird nach knapp zwei Jahren in Deutschland bereits als einer unserer Spitzen-Arrangeure bezeichnet Unter vielen anderen vertraute ihm kein geringerer als Robert Last den Start seiner Kamere an, und Les ist heute sein Chef-Arrangeur. Arrangeure mogen keine Chore, denn sie machen viel Arbeit, und es ist eine besondere Wissenschaft fir sich, einen modemen Chor-Satz zu schreiben. Les muBte €s lemen. und das brachte ihn auf die Idee, aus der Not eine Tugend zu machen, er grundete seinen eigenen Chor "The Les Humphries Singers".
Ambitonen gibt es ebenso viele wie Trends. Einer der augenblicklichen Ist Gospel im modemen Gewand. Hier kann ein Chor zeigen, daB ein modemes Arrangement, in dem sich Soul, Beat, Swing und die Schwermut des Blues vereinigen, ihm edaubt, aut einem soliden Fundament neue Wege zu gehen.Bei dieser Langspielplatte wird es nicht bleiben andere
He came like the Beatles with an unknown Beat-Group to Hamburg, where many European groups started their career. Not much later he Joined the "WONDERLANDS" as co-arranger, co-founder and on the organ.
He started to play music in the British forces, more exactly in the Royal Marines. He was thoroughly educated as a music-cadet and attended the academy of music many years. He plays several instruments but he mainly treats the piano both classic and pop and both equally perfect
Alter 12 years, at the age of 25, he left the Royal Marines with the grade of a Master-Band-Sergeant and as the youngest pensioner. Pensioners use to have hobbies and Les Humphries has quite a lot of them. His prime work is arranging and after scarcely two years he counts as one of the top-arrangers in Germany. Not only Robert Last but many other artists relied on Les Humphries when they started their career. Arrangers do not like choirs as they cause a lot of work and itis a real tricky thing to write a modem choir-arrangement. Les had to leam this and then he had the idea to build up his own choir “The Les Humphries Singers”
Ambitions are as many as trends. At the moment it is gospel in a modern style. Here a ehoir many show that a modem arrangement which combines soul, beat, swing and blues allows to walk new roads provided a solid basement This will not be his last album, others shall come and new numbers shall be recorded with this 28 years old Englishman.
