Pop-Tart Cereal Yay or Nay?

For those of you that are kids of the '90s looks your tastebud dreams have come true. After 20 years this much talked about and craved cereal is back onto supermarket shelves. The real question how bad is it? And will my fourteen-year-old eat it?

I really don't remember the early concoction of this pop culture phenomena but the bright blue box jumped out at my kid so it ended up in our cart. And now, well it sits on the shelf with other boxes of cereal that nobody wants to eat.

I guess we really should have looked at the small lettering that reads "Delicious Filling In Every Bite!". I mean Pop Tarts are gross anyway but to put that filling in your milk is really bad in my book.

The center jam as we call it is so hard and sticky and just not good. The outside texture is fine it's your average cereal fair. We just can not get past that gross center.



As for my Fourteen-Year-Old, she thinks its ok looks like she eats it dry when she gets bored but you can tell after a few bites she is done with it. So if anybody would like to come over for a bowl of Pop-Tarts Cereal feel free it's going to go stale in this house.

Pumpkin Spice Rolls

As I have stated before I feel the Pumpkin Spice game is getting out of hand. But where this guy will indulge is baked goods. I really love the Leggo Pumpkin Spice waffles could eat all day Pumpkin spice pancakes so when I was perusing the shelves at the grocery store the other day I stumbled on to Pillsbury Pumpkin Spice rolls, hmm sure why not.

Sadly I should have turned away. At $3.49 for 5, these come up way short on flavor, texture, and Pumpkin. No, really they had a very little flavor to the point that we all thought it had a hint of Rootbeer of the fall classic it was supposed to taste like.  Pillsbury Grand Pumpkin Spice is a definite skip!

They're grrrrreat!

My taste buds are begging for more!! I'm sure you have all seen Tony The Tiger has leaped into the fall classic this year giving us Pumpkin Spice Frosted Flakes! Milk has never tasted so good as this bowl calls to me in the middle of the night has my mind can not wait for the morning.

I was a skeptic when I put the box in my cart wondering how bad this was going to get. To my surprise the cereal is very mild as the sugar of the Frosted Flake still shines through you find your self with just the right amount of spice, thank god! If you have not tried this yet it is well worth the shelf space next to Boo Berry.

The Taste of Play Doh

Curse you Sam's Club and you're little taste me carts! Dang you bright pink box with a cute little Unicorn saying buy me your girls will love you forever. When will the Unicorn crazy just go away?

From fancy lattes, macarons, Pop-Tarts, and toast the world just can't seem to get enough Unicorn poop! So why wouldn't Kellogg’s try to capitalize on the craze with its new Unicorn Cereal, which hit shelves the first week of March?

It clearly says Magic Cupcake on the box but let me tell you the first whiff you get when you open up the wax sleeve is without a doubt Play-Doh! Not quite the vanilla flavor it promised.

Once you get past the initial flavor shock you settle into a rather tasty little treat. Be warned tho just like Captin Krunch this seems to do a nice job of ripping the roof of your mouth. And once you get to the final step of slurping up the pink milk (would that be considered Unicorn Pee?) your left feeling satisfied and all happy inside.



In the end, Unicorn cereal really is not that bad and a safe way to eat Play-Doh. Let me know have you tried the latest Unicorn craze? What did you think? Do you need some because the novelty has worn off here in this household leaving this dad to finish off one whole bag myself.

Top Five Tuesday Camp Food!

I'm always being asked why I do not have any top 5 or 10 lists on my blog. Well like most that can change from hour to hour or day to day but I still think it will be fun so here is my first and oddest top 5!

This Tuesday is a silly one but one that is fresh in my mind. The top meals I ate at camp! You all have heard the term Camp Food is good and you all know that is a bunch of crap. But we survive and today I'm going to share with you the food that I was able to swallow!

Number 5 

 It is kind of hard to screw up chicken but I have to say the rice was pretty tolerable. OR it was just that this was the middle of the week and I was starving. We always say that Camp is the best diet plan out there.

Now, Pudding is Pop!

Oh my gosh what I wouldn't do for a smooth creamy pudding pop right about now. And the crazy thing is they put these back out in 2004 but they were not the same and went away just as fast. Kids today they just don't know what they are missing. If you are a kid of the 80's this was a huge part of your life.

I know what I'm missing out on so today I'm going to sure with you an old recipe that Jello put out in an older add from the 60' or 70's too hard to tell.

Jell-O Pudding Frozen Fudge Pops

1 Package (4 oz) Jell-O Chocolate or Chocolate Fudge and Pie Filling
1/4 cup sugar
3 cups milk

Combine Jell-O pudding mix, sugar, and milk. Stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil. Remove from heat. Cool five minutes, stirring once or twice. Pour mixture into shallow pan. Free until ice crystals form around edges about 30 minutes. Stir mixture until smooth, but not melted. Spoon into pop molds or 4-ounce paper cups places wooden stick in each. Freeze until firm. Makes 7 pops.

Or if you're  lazy you can easily take packaged pudding, cut a slit on the top and add a popsicle stick and freeze it, too.

Would You Like Fries With That?

The Igloo has grown to become an iconic location of the Illinois Valley area since it first opened on July 4th, 1937. Founded during the Great Depression by the original owners Louis "Louie" and Stephanie "Pat" Mazzorana, the Igloo continued to be family owned and operated into December of 2010. Carrying on the traditions and continuing to build the business for the future it was then passed on to Rich and Chris Decker on December 16th, 2010. Rich and Chris both bring years of restaurant experience to the Igloo in addition to their dedication to carry(ing) on the Igloo anniversary every July 4th. We are over 75 years old. Every town has one there favorite greasy spoon where you go and everybody know's you by name. You have your favorite  go-to dish but your never afraid to try something new. The Igloo has been a family tradition sense I was a kid going way back to when my parents went there after the big football game or dance. It was the car hop to hang out at and it still is to this day! Not a lot has changed in the 70 years the tables and booths are the same from when I was a kid and when someone leaves the area and comes home  has to get a pork and fires with a papaya drink when they get back into town. It's a part of us that fingers crossed will be here for generations to come.

H is for Taco Pizza??

Oh, those girls in their red and white skirts and saddle shoes, the smell of freshly baked pizza, and video games what more could a young boy ask for?

Well ok for me it was more about the girls and the games see I hate pizza except one and that its Happy Joe's Taco Pizza! This was a new thing for me and I loved it. Happy Joe's is where you hung out for Birthday Partys see they had little coin up rides in the front with an Ice Cream Parlor and a pizza joint and arcade in the back. This place was a dream come true.

I still do not understand why they closed here some would say it was the fantastic local pizza that ran them out for me I think it was the video game crash of the 80's.

Let us get back to the Pizza, Happy Joe's claims to be the first pizza restaurant to offer a taco pizza (a pizza with refried bean/tomato sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato and taco chips). After a franchisee suggested adding tacos to the menu, Joe Whitty invented the restaurant's best-selling product, the Taco Pizza. The taco pizza restores some faith into me when it came to the pie that everybody loves. But soon after they also introduced the BLT pizza as well OMG!!

It's cool to hear that Happy Joe's is still around and our now in seven states and over 50 restaurants strong. I have added taking me kids to the bucket list this Summer. Maybe heading towards  Moline or Iowa to check this place out. Per their website tho it seems to be more of a restaurant then a Birthday Party destination but that is ok it will be worth the hour drive. Have you ever been to Happy Joe's?
