Early bird + Iso taivas

Art journal -sivu vaihteen vuoksi. Tässä on vanhan kirjan sivua, maalarinteippiä, akryylimaaleja, stanssattua tirppaa jne. Aamuyö klo 4 tuntuu olevan varsin luomisvoimaista aikaa, eipä tämä ole ensimmäinen sivu, johon tulee idea niihin aikoihin. On se hyvä, että tuo meidän pienin tekee hampaita erityisesti aamuyöstä..! ;D

Another art journal page to show. There are the usual suspects: old book page, acrylic paints, some masking tape, a die cut bird, etc. 4 a.m. seems to be very creative time for me, this is not the first page that was inspired by (very) early morning thoughts. I'm so happy our little one is teething...! ;D

Lupasin meidän herra 3 veelle, että otan kuvan hänen viimeisimmästä vesivärityöstään ja ajattelin saman tien näyttää sen teillekin. Teoksen nimi on Iso taivas.

I promised my 3-year-old that I'd take a photo of his latest watercolour painting and I thought I might as well share it with you, too. Isn't it great? :) It's called 'Big sky' or 'Big heaven' (the word 'taivas' in Finnish can mean both 'sky' and 'heaven' and I'm not sure which one he meant when naming his work).

Hyvää äitienpäivää! - Happy Mother's Day!

Nyt, kun perheessämme on pikku-Picasso, on äitienpäiväkorttien teko siirtynyt hänen "vastuulleen" (itse en ole enää pariin vuoteen tehnyt yhtäkään äitienpäiväkorttia...). Toki minun apuani korttien teossa tarvitaan edelleen mutta kaksivuotiaaksi poika osaa jo itse askarrella mielestäni todella hyvin. Tämänvuotiset äitienpäiväkortit, tai oikeammin -maalaukset, mummoille teimme 'sekatekniikalla', alle tuli tarkkaan ja hartaasti tehty maalaus sormiväreillä ja sen päälle liimasimme silkkipaperikukkia. Poika valitsi itse, minkä värisistä silkkipapereista halusi kukat tehdä, repi sopivan kokoiset palat irti ja rutisti niistä kukkia. Sitten vain runsaasti liimaa ja kukat kiinni (miten se liiman levittäminen voikaan olla niin hauskaa?! ;D ). Minä autoin sen verran, että liimasin taulut taustapahviin kiinni.

Now that we have our very own little Picasso, Mother's Day cards are something that he makes, I've not made a single Mother's Day card in two years. Naturally, being only 2 years old, he needs my help with crafting but I am really proud of the way he crafts these days, he really likes it and his concentration span is long when it comes to crafting (oh if you could see the glow of pride on my face right now... :) ). Here are the cards/paintings he made this year for his Grandmothers. He used a mixed media approach with these, first carefully painting with fingerpaints and then glueing silk paper flowers on top of the paintings. He chose the silk papers he wanted to use, ripped pieces out of them and scrunched them into flowers, and then applied a generous amount of glue to them (how can it be so fun to apply glue...?! ;D ). I helped him in attaching the paintings to the backing cardboard.

Tällaisilla ihanuuksilla minua puolestaan hemmoteltiin tänä aamuna :) Poika oli nämä isänsä kanssa tehnyt ja toi ne ylpeyttä uhkuen minulle aamulla (taisi tosin jäädä ylpeydessä jälkeen minulle... ;D ). Ensinnäkin sain tällaisen puuväreillä piirretyn kortin...

These were the lovely things that I was spoilt with this morning :) My lovely son had crafted these with his Daddy and brought them to me this morning looking so proud (but you can rest assured, he couldn't have been as proud of himself as I was of him... ;D ). First of all, there's a card drawn with coloured pencils...

... ja sen päälle vielä upean värikäs vesivärimaalaus! Kyllä tämä mamma on ollut ylpeä ja onnellinen koko aamun :)

...and on top of that, there's a gorgeous and colourful watercolour painting! Oh, I've been such a happy mama all morning :)

Ja kun pikku-Picasson taiteiluita nyt laitan näytille, niin tässä vielä alkuvuodesta tehdyt syntymäpäiväkortit mummalle ja paapalle. Näissäkin on tavallaan sekatekniikka, alla on puuväreillä tehty piirrustus ja päälle poika liimasi innoissaan minun leikkaamiani paloja koristeteipeistä, jotka poika sai äidin tilauksien kylkiäisinä Teippitarhasta :) Minä autoin näissä vielä sen verran, että kiinnitin piirrustukset korttipohjaan kohoteipeillä.

While we're at it, here are a couple of cards our little Picasso made earlier this year for his Grandad and Grandma for their birthdays. These are made with a sort of mixed media technique as well, as he first drew with coloured pencils and then attached pieces (cut by me!) of decorative tape on to the drawings (he got a roll of decorative tape as a free gift with some of my orders from the Teippitarha shop :) ). I then attached the drawings to the cardblank with 3D foam pads.

Minun ja hänen - Mine and his

Taas kerran puolivalmista näytille... Tämäkin on siis tekstiä vaille valmis art journal -sivu, lisään journaloinnin (lieneekö tuo sana..? ;D ) myöhemmin. Harmittaa, etten saanut kunnon kuvaa noista mustista maalijäljistä, ne ovat nimittäin (minulle uutta) Daler Rowneyn System3 Heavy Body -akryylimaalia, joka nimensä mukaisesti on paksua maalia. Sillä saa aika hienoja tekstuureja aikaan :)

Once again I'll show you something half finished as this is a page in my art journal but it is still missing the actual journaling bit. I'll add that later but will show you the page now ;) It's a pity I couldn't get a decent picture to show you the texture of the black paint I used. It's Daler Rowney's System3 Heavy Body acrylic paint which - as the name suggests - is really thick, heavy-bodied paint. The textures you can make with it are gorgeous :)

 Kun olin kuvannut tuon yllä olevan sivuni, halusi pian 2-vuotias poikani selata art journaliani. Tekemäni sivut katsottuaan hän marssi hakemaan värikynärasiansa ja halusi tehdä oman sivunsa kirjaani :) Tällainen tuli hänen aukeamastaan. Hieno, vai mitä? :)

Earlier today when I had taken the photo of my page, my son (who's soon 2 years old) wanted to look at my journal. When he had seen all the pages in it, he promptly went and fetched his own crayons and wanted to make a page in my journal. This is his spread, gorgeous isn't it? :)

Hyvää isänpäivää! - Happy Father's Day!

Olemme Maailman Suloisimman Pienen Pojan kanssa taiteilleet jos jonkinmoista isänpäiväksi. Molemmille paapoille tuunasimme kangaskassit. Minä tulostin koneelta tekstin '"XX:n" paapan kassi' (kyllä, lapsemme nimi on hieman harvinaisempi XX.... ;D ) ja kirjoitin sen kangastusseilla läpi kassin toiselle puolelle - pitäähän sitä nyt kylillä tietää, kenen paappa se siinä kulkee! :) Toiselle puolelle poika taiteili kangastusseilla varsin upean piirrustuksen (yhtään ylpeilemättä voin sanoa, että näen tässä mitä suurinta taiteellista lahjakkuutta - seuraava Picasso tulee täältä!! :) ).

It is Father's Day in Finland today and the Cutest Little Boy in the World and I made all kinds of crafty things for Father's Day. For both Grandads' we decorated (shopping) bags. I printed out text 'XX's Grandad's bag' ('XX' of course replaces here our son's name which I'm not comfortable mentioning online - yes, I'm overprotective! ;) ) on the computer and then outlined it with fabric markers on one side of the bag. This way everyone knows whose Grandad it is who is carrying the bag! :) On the other side our son made some fabulous drawings with the same markers (I'm not being overly proud mother at all when I say that I see some serious talent in his drawing - watch out, the next Picasso is here! ;) ).

Paapoille poika taiteili tällaiset kortit. Kortin teon hän aloitti ensin piirtämällä (siinä on mm. kaivinkone :) ), sitten hän itse halusi lisätä maalarinteipin paloja korttiin. Siitä muistin, että minullahan on Teippitarhan autoteippiäkin, leikoin siitä sitten paloja, jotka poika myös liimasi korttiin.

The Cutest Little Boy in the World also made cards for both Grandads. He started making the cards by drawing on them (can you spot the digger he drew? :) ) and then he wanted to add some basic masking tape on it. This reminded me that I had this cute car tape from Teippitarha - I helped him by cutting pieces from it and he taped them on the cards.

Isälle teimme kortin seurakunnan perhekahvilassa. Minä leikkasin sydämen ja poika liimasi koristeet paikoilleen. Hän myös korosti norsua hienosti kevyellä lyijykynävärityksellä :)

We made a card for Dad over at the church's family cafe. I cut out the heart and he placed the embellishments on it. Note the delicate pencil shading on the elephant :)

Koska iskä on kunkku, teimme iskälle kunkun MLL:n perhekahvilassa. Maailman Suloisin Pieni Poika maalasi kuninkaan kruunun ja paidan sormiväreillä ja piirsi naamankin värikynillä. Upea kunkku, vai mitä? :)
Lahjankin isälle teimme, mutta koska siinä näkyy pojan nimi, en laita siitä kuvaa tänne, mutta kerron, että koristelimme T-paidan samalla tyylillä kuin paappojen kassit ja siitä tuli hiano! :)

Because Dad's our hero, we made him a king for Father's Day over at the family cafe hosted by Mannerheim League for Child Welfare. The Cutest Little Boy in the World painted the king's crown and shirt with finger paints and drew his face with some pens. Our king turned out quite dashing, don't you think? :) We, of course, made a gift for Dad, too, we decorated a T-shirt with the same method as we did Grandads' bags, but as the T-shirt shows his name, I won't publish a photo of it here.

Hyvää äitienpäivää! - Happy Mother's Day!

Teimme pojan kanssa yhteistyönä tämänvuotiset äitienpäiväkortit (viime vuonna poika oli siihen vielä aavistuksen liian pieni ;) ). Aiheena oli kukkaketo ja pohjan siihen tein minä Distress Inkeillä sotkien. Ruoho-osuuteen koitin tehdä kukkien varsia/ruohonkorsia musteenlevitystyynyn reunalla, jotta saisin siihen hieman elävyyttä. Pojan taiteellinen osuus oli tehdä kukkasia sormivärillä ja ihan puolueettomasti sanoen niistä tuli aivan erityisen kauniita! ;) Poika tuntui innostuvan taiteilusta kovastikin, joten luulenpa, että kasvatamme sormiväriarsenaalia muillakin väreillä :) Kiinnitin taideteoksen Bazzillin kartonkiin enkä sitten lisännyt mitään koristeita, koska halusin pojan taiteilun olevan keskipisteessä.

It's Mother's Day today so hooray for all Mums!!! I made this year's Mother's Day cards together with our son (last year he was just a bit too young for that.. ;) ). We decided to make fields of flowers for which I made the backgrounds with Distress Inks. For the grass part I tried to make some flower stems with the edge of my ink blending tool to make it look a bit more lively. It was our son's job to make the flowers with finger paint and let me be totally impartial and objective and say that he did a mighty fine job with it, the flowers look awesome! ;) He got quite into making art so I think that we have to get some more finger paints (at the moment we only have blue colour). I attached the piece of art to some dotted Bazzill cardstock with no embellies as I wanted the picture to take the center stage.

Teimme kortteja itse asiassa kolme, pojan molemmille mummoille sekä isomummolle mutta isomummon kortti lähti matkaan jo hieman aikaisemmin enkä huomannut siitä ottaa kuvaa. Sääli sinänsä, sillä pojan taiteellinen osuus oli siinäkin varsin vaikuttavaa ja taatusti uniikkia :)

We actually made three Mother's Day cards, one for each of his grandmothers and one for his greatgrandmother (the age gap between our son and his greatgrandmother is some whopping 90 years! They are the youngest and the oldest in our family :) ) but the card for his greatgrandmother is already on its way to her and of course I forgot to take a picture of it, which is a shame as the artistic imput of our son was quite stunning and unique on it as well :)
