Be@rbrick Series 22 Green Lantern, Panda, & Uno Chase

My fascination with Be@rbrick came on strong a year ago, featured in a month of several posts on eBay aquisitions featuring the themed minifigures. I'd moved onto other things before showing all, and thought I'd come back to showcase the remaining few. These highly collectible Japanese figures come in a few different sizes, the 2 3/4" 100 % scale being my particular interest. I like colorful, fun toys, and am into Japanese vinyl and imported Tomica diecast cars, so the Be@rbrick's exotic appeal is not lost on me as a collector. A variation on MediCom's Kubrick figures, Be@rbrick are a lot like MiniMates in size, which I've also collected in the past. Check out the video:

Not featured in the video, the Amazing Spider-Man Logo Be@rbrick pictured below will stay on card for display with some other Spider-Man toys I love. Like Green Lantern, Spider-Man is a character strongly represented in my collection. I wouldn't mind finding some more Marvel and DC Be@rbrick at some point.

Medicom 1:6 Scale Real Action Heroes Flashpoint Batman

As soon as I discovered this 1:6 scale Flashpoint Batman existed, I hunted down the best deal I could find. In Flashpoint (DC, 2011), Barry Allen is pulled into an alternate Universe where the history of the heroes he knew had been altered, the mantle of Gotham City's Batman filled by Thomas Wayne, son Bruce having been killed that fateful night in Crime Alley. I'd contemplated purchasing earlier Real Action Hero series Batman figures, admiring their styling but somewhat underwhelmed by their construction after viewing a few reviews, but caved when this one was recently released. There is indeed a slightly chintzy quality to the vinyl bodysuit, snap-in hands, and cheap plastic sword. That said, he's sure a looker- check out the video:

Below: Batman, Thomas Wayne, runs Eobard Thawne through with an Amazonian sword at the climax of Flashpoint, setting the stage for DC Comics' 2011 relaunch, The New 52. This book and that moment are are memorable to me, as not long before this I'd regained interest in comics with a passion unmatched before in my life, perhaps even during my childhood.

Medicom Real Action Heroes Batman with Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 Scale Batman. At about the same price, the Sideshow is a far better value, constructed of superior plastic and fabric, and realistic paint subtleties the Medicom just doesn't have. Still, the Flashpoint Batman does have a simplicity and vampiric style I really enjoy...

MediCom DEVILMAN 400% Be@rbrick

It was only a matter of time before I had to try a 400% Be@rbrick, the 11" version of MediCom's highly collectible figures. This Devilman Be@rbrick has all the articulation of his 2 3/4" counterparts, but with added ratchet swivels in the limbs for added stability. Devilman was an easy choice for me due to his Manja styling and great color! I enjoy "cute" and "sci-fi" series Be@rbrick, but also the horror characters. I'm unfamiliar with this Japanese anime character, but was hooked by his exotic design! Check out the video:

SUPER-DUPER BE@RBRICK No.3

...AND My third haul of MediCom Be@rbrick, try to keep up! A lot of the characters are designed by artists unknown to me or modeled after Japanese. pop culture characters I'm unfamiliar with, as a fan of Japanese vinyl and imported Tomica diecast cars, the Be@rbrick's exotic appeal is not lost on me as a collector. My recent interest in Lego minifigures may also play into my fascination with these Be@rbrick. Check out the video:

Getting the Cute Series 31 Honey Bear to complement my Animal Series 21 Buzzy Bee was a highlight from this latest haul- the cuteness is too much! While some may not appreciate this, Be@rbrick are well-designed toys with endless deco possibilities, their simplicity their success in this area.

SUPER-DUPER BE@RBRICK No.2

My second haul of MediCom Be@rbrick, try to keep up! A lot of the characters are designed by artists unknown to me or modeled after Japanese. pop culture characters I'm unfamiliar with. As I said in my SUPER-DUPER BE@RBRICK No.1 post, I'm into Japanese vinyl and imported Tomica diecast cars, so the Be@rbrick's exotic appeal is not lost on me as a collector. I also love MiniMates, which are similar in scale and cuteness! Check out the video:

Series 27, 28, 19, 21, and 25 Nuiguruma Z, Russian Doll Matryoshka, Shoko Nakagawa Cat, Buzzy The Bee, and Hello Kitty Kiss Catman. I'm a longtime drummer and KISS fan, so getting that last one was sweet... it's fun that it's a Hello Kitty/Catman mash-up!

SUPER-DUPER BE@BRICK No.1

My latest fascination are in the form of these MediCom Be@rbrick, which are too cute for words! Sofubi Vinyl Batman by Medicom

I was positive I wanted this sofubi vinyl Batman after discovering him on the internet some time ago, but was turned off by the high price at retail. That said, a mere twenty dollar drop in price, no tax, and free shipping was enough for me to cave in. Made of soft vinyl by Japanese company Medicom, this 10.5" doll has the kind of retro styling that appeals to myself and a whole community of serious collectors, some going for two to three times what I paid for this Batman...

Though articulation is limited to swivels at the arms and neck, this fun toy has a removable cowl and big, irresistible design! The snap on the cape and oversized head really adds to the aesthetic of this figure, announcing it's unapologetic status as a fun toy!

Another figure I love in my burgeoning collection of vinyl toys is my Funko Vinyl Invaders Batman. While I have a few other characters in vinyl, Batman is my obsession in this subcategory of my collection. There's also a Joker, Superman, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Bizarro in this retro Medicom series, and Harley Quinn, Riddler, and Spider-Man on the way for 2015.

My Mattel 8" Retro-Action Batman has a great deal in common with the sofubi Batman, and several attributes in styling I admire in a Batman. I like this Silver-Age color scheme on a Batman, the blue on gray with black shorts and yellow oval behind the bat symbol on the chest. And a removable cowl, no matter what the complaints, always sells me!

Pictured below, some Silver-Age blue/gray Batmen in my collection:  Mattel 5" Stealth Strike Gear Up Batman (also w/removable cowl), Mattel 8" Retro-Action Batman, Medicom 10.5" Sofubi Batman, Mattel 6.5" Arkham City Batman, Mattel 6" Power Attack Batman, and 4" Power Attack Batman...
