DC Collectibles Earth 2 Hawkgirl

I bought the Earth 2 Hawkgirl at the end of 2014 with a bunch of other DC Collectibles, opening her only recently to discover she had two left hands! I contacted DC Entertainment concerning the issue, and a very nice Kevin Kiniry said he'd do his best to find me another, which surprisingly he did! This was a relief, as she was a character I enjoyed in Earth 2, with a great update to the classic Hawkgirl...

The wings are hinged, pegging securely into two holes in the figure's back- they can be swiveled without falling out because of their tight fit. The ponytail is a separate piece with no articulation, which prefer draped behind the wings. Her pistol and knife sheath onto the figure securely and fit in her hands nicely. Hawkgirl has a fair amount of articulation, but the true appeal of a DC Collectibles figure are their artful aesthetic, for which this one is a particularly fine example. These are not toys for little kids, they're art and to be handled with care. That said, they're also poseable and fun, evident in the pictures below...

As if finding me a new Hawkgirl wasn't enough, Kevin went out of his way and sent an additional Batman figure I had confessed to have admired- wow! I really enjoyed artist Greg Capullo's work on Batman: Zero Yearand the visual homage to the Caped Crusader's origins with the flanged cape and purple gloves. I look forward to busting him out of that package and getting some photos. It's true we live in the Golden Age of action figures, and DC Collectibles are responsible for that with their groundbreaking work as DC Direct, producing figures based on the art from different DC Comics stories. This tradition has continued in DC Collectibles production of  figures of rare specialty as heroes of Earth 2. Se my post on DC Collectibles' Earth 2 Flash and Green Lantern...

Thanks to Kevin Kiniry at DC Entertainment
for giving me a great experience!

DC New 52: Earth 2, #2

In continuance of my earlier post on DC New 52: Earth 2, #1, we are introduced, or reintroduced to Jay Garrick at his moment of truth- when he acqires his powers of speed from Mercury...

When the World Army shows up, the reluctant Jay pleads with Mercury to understand he's just a regular guy and they are the good guys & here to help. Mercury insists that Jay's gallant heart combined with his own power of speed to get away and to save the world from an impending darkness to come.

Elsewhere, Mr. Terrific arrives from another Earth, confused at the alternate version of Manhattan he's found himself. A man named Terry Sloan approaches him, somehow aware of Terrific's identity and time of arrival, and quickly turns the hero's own tech against him.

Running in thrill of his new power, Jay finds himself in Poland, the mysterious Hawkgirl having somehow been expecting him.

We were introduced to business mogul Alan Scott in the last issue. Meeting his partner for a holiday in the country, the two board a train, upon which Alan proposes to Sam just before the shocking ending to this issue...

Nicolla Scott does some expert penciling in this issue, and though I was initially unsure about the Flash's new outfit, it's grown on me somewhat. I dig the colors that pay homage to the original Flash. My main complaint with newer comics is that it seems there are too many ads and not quite enough story, especially when I'm paying three bucks an issue for this title. That could be nostalgia talking. It may take some more for me to decide if this Earth 2 fascination is a passing faze, or if it's any good- I'm not a literary critic. But hey- I am curious enough that I bought a couple more issues after this one, so DC's little New 52 hype worked to a degree... well at least for now  :D

Hey Mr. Postman! Super-Duper Sale at Mike's!

Got a package from Mike at Mike's Comics & Stuff in sunny Anaheim, CA! I've been waiting for him to collect a few things I've been really wanting, and all the pieces fell into place a couple weeks ago. We were both so happy that Mike is gonna throw a Super-Duper ToyBox special at his online store! More on that at the end of the post- let's dig in & see what he sent me...

* DC Direct Brightest Day Series 2 Hawkman
Wow- this might be the singular best Hawkman figure of all time. I e-mailed Mike immediately upon seeing the press release of these great figures...

* DC Direct Brightest Day Series 1 Hawkgirl
Again, perhaps the best Hawkgirl figure I've ever seen- AMAZING. I love having a Hawkgirl & Hawkman from the same series. I may have died & gone to Toy Heaven, Kids...

* DC Direct Brightest Day Series 1 Green Arrow
Ollie with his hooded costume- must have. Like Hawkgirl, I have a great DCUC Green Arrow I've still never opened! I really need to get on that- getting these may give me the kick in the butt I need...

* DC Direct Brightest Day Series 2 Martian Manhunter
What? ...You didn't think I'd skip this one did ya? HELL NO! I'm getting quite a collection going of J'onn J'onzz figures, & have a few I haven't (laughs) opened still- way behind on that. I love this new costume! REALLY cool!

*DC Universe Classics Wave 16 Robin (with modern head)
Now I had pre-ordered him on Amazon last year, but he came with such a poor paint job after that I sent him back and had Mike pull me a good one aside. Serves me right, because I got a better price from Mike, ultimately. Finally- a DCUC Robin in my collection, one I can be proud of! Thanks Mike!

As I said, this all turned out so much fun that Mike is gonna throw A Super-Duper ToyBox Special over at the Mike's Comics & Stuff website! Enter "superduper" at the check-out and get 10% off your order! Mike gives great service and has some killer stuff! Go check it out!

December DCUC Haul

In my earlier post on 2011 Collecting Goals, I resolved to spend more cautiously- well, that's my resolution for 2011, and it was still (laughs) 2010 last time I looked! I had also mentioned in that same post that I would be grabbing some more 6" DC Universe Classics, and since I was gifted some cash for Christmas, I decided to have some FUN and spend some of it on these toys I love. I have said before that I never thought I'd get into 6" action figures, but ever since I won a DCUC Starman on the comment contest at Action Figure Blues, I've been crazy over this line. Let's see how I did...

*DCUC Fates Intertwined HawkGirl Vs. Gentleman Ghost! (Wal-Mart Exclusive) Have you priced a DCUC Gentleman Ghost on the internet lately? I saw one for up for $200.00 the other day, and landing a Hawkgirl can be pricey, too. Gentleman Ghost is SO cool- his lower extremities are clear plastic that fades into a clean white... really nice. I about fell over when I was trolling the toy isle at Wal-Mart the other day and saw this for just over $32.00- I knew I'd find myself there again buying it! Dreams DO come true, Friends...

*DCUC Wave 14 Todd Rice (Obsidian) & Hourman! (Wave 14 is a Wal-Mart Exclusive) To be honest, I know nothing of Obsidian & Hourman other than I just liked them- Obsidian has a cool, evil outfit, & Hourman looks retro (from 1940) which I also like...

*DCUC Wave 14 Gold & DCUC All-Star Green Arrow! I already have Iron from The Metal Men, and Mercury is on the way (pre-ordered), so I couldn't resist Gold- so cool with his snap-on hand accessories! Like Gentleman Ghost & Hawkgirl, Green Arrow was released in 2009- these are re-releases. I've heard this Green Arrow has a slightly different paint job. Just read DC Final Crisis, which includes an appearance by this classic DC character...

*DCUC All-Star Nightwing! (Toys 'R Us Exclusive) This is basically a repaint of the other DCUC All-Star Nightwing I have, but I liked him a lot. I'm not a completist who must have every variant figure, but he was fun to get!

I've found that in a lot of instances, it is cheaper to get these while they are in store as opposed to getting them later on the internet, paying a jacked-up price and additional shipping costs, so I got some of these while the getting is good!
