MOTU Masterverse Dump (Jan. 2024)

Last year I caved in and started collecting 7" Masterverse figures, in spite of telling myself that the MOTU Origins line was all I would collect from Mattel's Masters of the Universe lines, but I love these too much! Collecting Masters of the Universe Classics was cost prohibitive when Mattel produced that 6" line back in 2009, so this is kind of like a second chance to own larger scale MOTU figures like that. I have a lot of them to show, so here's a Masterverse dump just to get some opened to be enjoyed...

I can't say enough good things about these Masteverse figures, that seem to just get better with each new wave. I have more of these to show you here on the Super-DuperToyBox, until then check out my November 2023 post on the Masteverse Whiplash, Clawful, Beastman, and Mer-Man!

MOTU Origins Wave 7

I had MOTU Origins Wave 7  on preorder at BBTS for quite some time, but happened upon them in a local Target a couple weekends ago. I was most excited about Jitsu, a figure from the original Masters of the Universe line I owned back in 1984, but I was certainly interested in the rest of the wave. Check out the video:

Sorceress and Stratos were strait-up repaints of two figures Mattel recently produced in the Origins line, the former a more traditional redeco of the Temple of Darkness Sorceress that was included with the recent Origins Castle Grayskull, the latter a mini comic version of  the Wave 4 Stratos.

Below, Sorceress and Stratos greet He-Man, arriving at Castle Grayskull in the Wind Raider...

Buzz-Off was a new character for me, having missed his 1984 debut in the original Masters of the Universe line, but I had my original Jitsu until just a few years ago. I loved that Jitsu figure as a child, and couldn't wait to get the Origins version, which didn't disappoint. Neither did Buzz-Off, with his removeable visor...

Like the other MOTU Origins figures, Wave 7 included a mini comic, Challenge of Jitsu, including all four characters. Artwork from the original Masters figures, drawn by Alfred Alcala set my young imagination alight. I enjoy seeing these in the new Origins line, and hope it does for kids today what it did for us in the '80s. Aside from some small paint QC issues on the Sorceress and Stratos, I enjoyed this wave. I anticipate we will see a lot more from Mattel in the Origins line in 2022, and am looking forward to it- the nostalgia this line aroused is palpable! Hands down, my favorite action figure line of the last year!

MOTU Origins Wave 4

Like MOTU Origins Wave 3 in my last post, I've had this 4th Wave since early spring, and am just now getting around to opening them. More Origins figures and vehicles have become available since, so I'd been busy with those. I'd recommend preordering from BBTS to ensure safe arrival and best shipping price. Stratos was the sole character from this lineup in my childhood collection back in '82, so I was happy to finally get him out, but Tri-Klops, Hordak, and Ninjor were new for me. Check out the video:

Like the other MOTU Origins figures, Wave 4 included a mini comic, Sneak Attack, including all four characters. Artwork from the original Masters figures, drawn by Alfred Alcala set my young imagination alight. I enjoy seeing these in the new Origins line, and hope it does for kids today what it did for us in the '80s. Visit the Battle Ram Blog to see more about the original mini comics and Masters of the Universe toys!

Hordak was also released as a deluxe figure in this line, as Buzzsaw Hordak with a pop-out chest action feature, but I'd rather have had Ninjor released that way, with an unmasked head. I had passed on Tri-Klops initially, resolving to collect these on a limited basis, but picked him up later in the wild as MOTU madness came over me. Having Stratos again is really a sweet spot for me, having loved my childhood figure of this character.

Pictured below are many of the MOTU Origins currently residing in the Super-DuperToyBox. Masters of the Universe Origins has been my absolute favorite line of the last year- the nostalgia it has stirred in me was a surprise, and I'm really enjoying collecting beyond the characters I had as a child. Recommended!
