Marvel Legends Edge of Spider-Verse Ben Reilly Spider-Man (2015)

I'd been sitting on this 2015 Marvel Legends Ben Reilly Spider-Man since February, bought from an eBay seller long after his retail debut. He shares the same buck as the All New Amazing Spider-Man, which I loved The arms for the Absorbing Man BAF are included, but more interesting are the Carnage hands and head accessories included that make this figure too much fun. The vibrant red against the dark blue, big eyes, and modern Hasbro sculpt make this a dynamic figure I've been looking forward to opening.

All the appropriate modern articulation is present here, including butterfly joints at the shoulders. Collectors have bemoaned the limited hip spread, considering the acrobatic character, but they are functional enough for me. Ben Reilly also comes with no less than three sets of regular hands in addition to the Carnage hands, making this an unusually loaded Marvel Legends release. I appreciated this outfit in it's time, and love it on this lanky buck- what a fun action figure!

As I said, the Carnage head and hands accessories are extra cool, a nod to fans referring to the Web of Carnage story, when Ben Reilly traps the Carnage symbiote inside himself ...becoming Spider-Carnage (1996). I never read the Clone Saga from 1994 to 1996, detailing the long and somewhat convoluted story of Peter Parker's passing of the Spider-Man mantle to clone Ben Reilly after realizing he was actually the clone of Ben  … then later discovering he was in fact the original? Ugh. Still, I love the idea of Spider-Carnage, and the accessories make this figure special.

Below, Ben Reilly with Hasbro's 2008 version from the Marvel Legends Ares Series. This older figure gets a lot of criticism, but I always liked the sculpt.  Ben Reilly certainly is an upgrade, but Hasbro was still struggling to find their own style for the line, only haven recently taking the line over from ToyBiz in 2006.

Below, some Marvel Legends Spider-Men in my collection: ToyBiz 1st Appearance Spider-Man, Hasbro Homecoming Spider-Man, Avengers Infinity War Spider-Man, All New Amazing Spider-Man, Ben Reilly Spider-Man, Superior Spider-Man, Spider-UK, and Amazing Spider-Man.

Hey, Mr.Postman!

The weather was somewhat treacherous Thursday morning with the snow, but that didn't stop the United Stated Postal Service from bringing me the treasure I'm about to show you!

Yes, another 10" ToyBiz Deluxe Marvel Universe action figure! Hooray! This one's a special Heroes Unmasked version of Spider-Man/Peter Parker from 1998, not in his classic red & blue, but the Clone Saga variant outfit that Ben Reilly wore before becoming Scarlet Spider. Both the hoodie wearing Scarlet Spider outfit and this updated spider-suit were designed by Mark Bagley, the latter version my favorite. There was a classically styled Heroes Unmasked Spider-Man/Peter Parker and a 10" Marvel Universe Scarlet Spider, but I was really looking for this one! I scored him in an eBay auction for about $13.00, a great price as he is hard to find and usually goes for fifty bucks or more- hold out for the right auction, and switch your keywords around/try fewer keywords in searches.
He has the same body as my ToyBiz Spider-Man 2099, and a removable mask which obviously appears only large enough to cover his face  :D  I'm unsure how the mask is supposed to stay on the head, but I'm certain it's not pretty! I want to enjoy him for awhile in this big, fun window box, one of the things I love about these figures...

In other news, I hit over 100,000 page views some time today- that's since I started in October of 2010, about 15 months. Not astronomical, but it seemed like a lot to me  :D   Thanks for coming to this happy place- you make it fun!

Three Little Spiders...

I intended to review these three Marvel Universe Spider-Man action figures all in one post, but I took over 200 photos of  them, both individually and with other Spider-Man figures in my collection. In this post, I wanted to share a few of the group shots & outtakes from that photo session- Enjoy!

Marvel Universe Scarlet Spider

Truth be told, I prefer the costume Ben Reilly, genetic clone of Peter Parker, wore when he was just web slinging as '"Spider-Man", but I couldn't pass this guy up twice. I have a respectable collection of Spider-Man action figures, some of which I've not shown here, and I thought he'd make a unique addition.

Unlike the Marvel Universe House of M Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099, this figure has cut joints in his thighs. I'm fairly certain Scarlet Spider was released before Spider-Man 2099 however, and am unsure why he wouldn't get the same treatment.

Visually, I like the wrist bands & utility belt- perhaps it reminds me of the Spider-Man television show from the 70's starring Nicholas Hammond, in which Spider-Man donned a utility belt & wrist band occasionally. I don't even mind the hoodie so much, though I would have preferred it pulled up over his head (no, I'm not kidding). I find the colors choices odd, I suppose, but bright colors & baggy shirts were en vogue during the 90's, and I have pictures to prove it  :D

Am I boring you with all this Spider-Man stuff??  I'm just kiddin'- I don't really care  :D  More later!

Sunday Toy Shopping

Sunday morning found me out picking up some action figures again, a FUN start to an eventful day off...

*Marvel Universe Thor & Scarlet Spider by Hasbro
I saw some others I liked, but settled on these two. I had passed that Thor by many times at my local Wal-Mart, so I took him home today! He's really cool! Then at Target I found the last Scarlet Spider- last week I saw three, so it was now or never. Not everyone's favorite, but he made me spot & look again today so I went ahead & bought him.

*Hasbro Spiderman Series Power Charge Rhino
Found him at Target with Scarlet Spider- I had passed on him last week as well, but gave in today. Too bulky & badass to pass on again...

I saw a lot of cool stuff on clearance, some of which I may go back for later. I've been passing on most all of the great deals out there only because I've found so much great Marvel Universe stuff lately. And Mike from Mike's Comics & Stuff found me a couple really cool six inch Young Justice figures he's sending. DONT' FORGET! Mike is having A Super-Duper ToyBox Special over at the Mike's Comics & Stuff website! Enter "superduper" at the check-out and get 10% off your order! Mike gives great service and has some killer stuff!  I just ordered:
*DC Universe Young Justice 6" Artemis Figure
*DC Universe Young Justice 6" Robin Figure

UP NEXT: MARVEL UNIVERSE SCARLET SPIDER, SPIDER-MAN 2099, HOUSE OF M SPIDER-MAN!

Marvel Legends Scarlet Spider

I scored this 6" Marvel Legends Scarlet Spider by Hasbro just a couple weeks ago on E-Bay for ten bucks- he came loose, but I wasn't going to pay for one in the box this time since I planned on opening him anyway. I always liked this version of the outfit worn by Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker, first appearing in Amazing Spider-Man #149 (1975)... it's a long story, folks.

This toy was a fun addition to my other two Marvel Legends Spidey figures- a must have! He has many points of articulation, though no hinged fingers like my other two Spideys, a stationary clenched fist and "web-shoot" positioned hand instead- it works. One problem all three of the Spideys share is the inability to pull their legs/thighs into a 90 degree angle in front of their body- the way the ball-hinge assembly is connected to the pelvis only allows movement to the sides.

I like the way his head swivels on a ball joint and the incised weblines detailing his mask and eyes. The rest of the paint is okay, and the body sculpt is to my liking enough. His nice coloring made him a joy to photograph!

I had no knowledge of this alternate Spiderman until 1996 however, when I picked up Spiderman Team-Up #5, which featured Gambit and Howard The Duck- a FUN comic! I still have it....
