A girl of letters

It has been a long week seemingly where time has stretched out and made the week almost two weeks long.
In helping out an internet friend I probably took the wrong way to gain a little information which shows that I along with everyone else in the world am quite fallible and what may seem like a good idea at the time may look wrong in hindsight.
I'm sorry if anyone was upset by my methodology but I had the best of intentions.

Hitomi has been working until quite late at night these last couple of weeks and on her free weekend she managed to eat something that really upset her and we had to come home from our night out at the Mars quite early. Fortunately by Sunday morning she was feeling much better. I blame the prawns that she ate for lunch on Saturday and I am so glad that I opted for the chicken. I came home with her from the Mars and the girl with the black piercing eyes and nursed her a little. Miss Grumpy is just that when she's sick, she likes to be left alone. I made sure she was comfortable and then made up the bed in the other room.

There have been things on my mind and some things are worthy of contemplation and some things can be merely discarded but some things need the input of others whether in open discussion or as in my case, in private.
Yes it remains private! What did you expect, a complete expose on my life?

I thought about writing on loyalty and betrayal but perhaps not. I have some silly things in my head on those topics and cannot write of them now from a detached and unemotional stance.
So I thought I'd answer a letter kindly sent to my email from a reader here.

He asks: "Is your relationship a valid one and can it last since you can't have kids."

The question is a very blunt one and it does produce certain ripples on my emotional levels but I'll try to give you a fair answer.
As a woman I would love children and no matter how I like my pleasures I still have a maternal instinct.
It is illegal in my country for a single person or a homosexual couple to adopt a child but how easy would it be for Hitomi or I to find a willing sperm donor?
That however does not address the question or double question as I see it.
Is it valid?
I believe it is valid because it's based on love. There are many male/female couples that are together in loveless or abusive or convenient relationships. I imagine there are the same problems in some gay couples too whether two males or two females. So if I say I love her and she says that she loves me then by what measure of anyone's validity does it stand? Isn't love the best reason for a couple to be together?
As for the inability of us both to produce a child together, yes that's true. And so it is for those who choose celibacy or birth control and both of those things are in my opinion unnatural.
Homosexuality does appear in the animal kingdom (LINK) whereas to my knowledge birth control and celibacy does not. (Although population control does and that's something we could learn from). So now it's reduced to expressing ideas of what is and what is not unnatural.

It seems to me that the burden of proof lies on the other side.
What reason is there to think that there is something wrong with homosexual relationships?
I've written about this before!
I can't see the point of hating or denying something that won't affect you or hurt anyone else. I was hoping that we lived in an age of enlightenment without resorting to ancient texts and someone else's idea of what is good and what is bad. If you are the kind of person to rely on religious texts for your ideas of what is right and wrong, I'd just like to point out that there are many other religious texts besides yours (Yes, I know yours is the right one and the others worship false Gods - but they say the same about you).
When it comes to love and sex, I follow my heart and trust my mind to tell me what's right and what's wrong.
In following that rule I have never killed people or called for a jihad or laid siege to cities or burned people on a cross for believing in something different to how I see things.
We tend to see the world from the stand-point of our own being and we judge what we see by our own moral standards (even if we ourselves rarely live up to them) and only once we can acknowledge this simple outlook can we begin to try and understand that there are differences. Then we have to learn how to tolerate and accept them instead of demanding everyone complies with one persons ideals.
It may be a nice idea if everyone else followed the way that you feel is right but how would you feel having to follow another's ideals if they were very different from how you believe conformity to be.

Hitomi thinks it only fair that since I frequently mention her "obsession" with Rilakkuma that I should mention my liking for "Hello Kitty" and you of course remember the flowers that she bought for me.
Now I have a new camera cover and pocket to keep it in. It was a lovely and thoughtful gift that she gave me over lunch before she went off to work.
Miss Demeanor strongly suggests to me that I'll have to throw up an occasional 'Hello Kitty' mention now to balance out my referrals of her favorite little bear.

I'd also like to mention that the friend whom I was so desperately worried about has returned home safely and is making a wonderful attempt at recovery. You rock girl!

Please also bear with me as I acknowledge our wonderful national soccer team who played extremely well at the world cup tournament in South Africa. Cameroon, our opponents, have been credited as being a very strong team and in fact the FIFA world rankings, that show teams current assessments by the last string of results, show Japan to be 45th and Cameroon 19th in the world . I am extremely happy not just for the win but also for how we played against such strong opposition who themselves played very well. Perhaps we will not win against such stronger opposition as the Netherlands, who are a favorite team to win the tournament and are ranked as 4th but again, I hope that we give them a good game and entertain the audience. Good luck to all the teams there.

Go Go Samurai blues!
