Heresy Era Sons of Horus - Abaddon and Justaerin complete!

Took advantage of a couple nice days over the weekend to finish off some models and make a start on some others!

First up is the rather awesome Abaddon vs. Loken vignette - This was one of the models that I have always wanted ever since it was released and it was an absolute blast to build and paint!

Rather pleased with how well the Secret Weapon bases match up with the FW set, and am looking forward to painting up Horus and his rather cool architectural base soon!

"Give up, AnnLoken! I have the high ground!" ...I'll show myself out.

The big A (hole) himself, Abaddon the ever-so-slightly myopic, apparently. Might have to go back in and fix that left eye.

The Justaerin are some very cool models, and really show off the brutalist nature of the Sons of Horus. While the power axes that come in the kit are undeniably cool, I prefer my terminators to carry chainfists and power fists.

It's hard to argue with a terminator toting a multi-melta, and I figured the anti-tank nature of the weapon was a natural fit with all the other armorbane chainfists!

A parting shot of Abaddon and the Justaerin. In most games they'll be teleporting into the fray, but for those times where the terrain (or available points) allow, they'll also have a Spartan to roll around in. The archmagos of the Luna manufactorum has been putting off its assembly, claiming delays in the receipt of appropriate doors prior to commencing fabrication of the vehicle. (It's not that I'm dreading the build and am procrastinating, noooo sir.)

In non-heresy news I have put together a couple Chimeras as a small commission for the fine fellow who ended up with a goodly chunk of the Mordian 7th, the inestimable Zzzzzz of Devos IV. It'll be a nice break from painting the black and red of the Justaerin to paint up some guard vehicles in... Black and red. Argh!

Imperial Guard - Mordian 7th Regiment Superheavy Tanks

While I've been pulling out models to photograph in order to get some stuff up on the auction block, it came to light that I never actually took any painted shots of the two superheavy tanks I'd finished up for Feast of Blades late last year. Since I had the camera out, it seemed only fair to rectify that situation!

First up is the Macharius Omega. I've always loved plasma weapons, gets hot rules and all. What better way to celebrate that than with a huge honkin' plasma blastgun!

And no imperial guard army is complete of course without including a Baneblade! This is, I believe, the seventh baneblade I've built over the years (and the eighth I've owned). Fair to say that I love this tank, and the plastic kit is a joy to assemble!

I'm still awaiting full discovery on how dire the upcoming pillaging of my finances is going to be, and sadly it's not inconceivable that the entire Mordian 7th army might have to go on the block to help offset the costs. That's going to be a last resort however - other armies I've done have come and gone (with startling frequency I'll admit) but the thought of having to put the 7th up really does not appeal. That said, the first salvo of miscellaneous sales have gone live, and there's a second wave of more esoteric findings from the depths of the Closet of Doom to come...

Imperial Guard - Apocalypse at Feast of Blades 2013

Massive picture dump today! My buddy Dave and I attended Feast of Blades this past Saturday and threw down the glorious 7th in a massive apocalypse battle that raged all day. At any given time there was about 12-15,000 points on a side, with players coming and going throughout the day. Overall the Mordian 7th was hopelessly outclassed and they were blown off the table quickly and brutally. We were allowed a sort of 'meatgrinder reserves' and as such the overall attrition rate of the army hovered somewhere around 300% with units coming on in one turn and being annihilated in the next, only to repeat the following turn! Here's some shots of the chaos from the event:

Phew! That's a lot of pics! All in all a fun time even though the guard were butchered to a man (several times over). While it was amusing to plonk all of the guard down on the table, it was rather obvious that it's not a viable Apocalypse army. Good times nonetheless!

Imperial Guard - Mordian 7th Regiment at Feast of Blades

Just a quick hit today - My buddy Dave and I are planning on attending Feast of Blades down in Denver this coming weekend to participate in the big narrative Apocalypse game on Saturday. I'll be wearing my Mordian 7th shirt, and should be easy to spot. If you're attending the event, stop by and say hello!

I'm planning on taking down the whole regiment which (with the exception of the Leviathan Command Carrier) will be the first time the whole army will hit the table, and be entirely painted! I plan on taking a bunch of pics at the event, should be a really fun time!

Post 400 giveaway!

This marks the 400th post to the Mordian 7th Regiment blog, and first things first today I want to thank all of you readers and followers out there - I truly appreciate all the support, advice, constructive criticism and kind words you've given me over the years! It really means a lot to me, and I thought I'd offer up an old legacy unit of mine as a thank your to commemorate the 400th post.

While going through the display cabinet my eye fell upon the original motorized rough riders I'd built years back. and since these were some of the very first conversions I posted when the blog began back in 2009 I thought they'd be a nice thing to give away.

Anyone who is a follower of the blog that posts a comment here over the next week will be entered into a drawing for them - these guys have been waiting to see some action for far too long! Thanks again for all of your support over the years folks, you guys rock!

In other news, this milestone ended up being a fortuitous conincidence - at this point, all of the non-apocalypse units in the army are now painted! I spent some time pulling everything out and snapped a family photo:

It's been a long road getting all of these guys done, and I'm really happy with how they've turned out. I have to get the Baneblade done by October for Feast of Blades, but I'm thinking that for now it's time to move on to another project for a while - new poll up in the upper right, lemme know what you guys want to see! While rooting around in the Closet of Doom I unearthed a whole mess of Iron Hands that a friend had mailed me prior to him moving overseas. There's darn near a whole army of 'em - just in time to take advantage of the new marine releases. My wallet cries out in terror!

Imperial Guard - Platoon Command Squad and Rapier painted

Looking at the painting chart, I realized that there were only two units left in the non-Apocalypse/non-Terrain section - the platoon command squad and the rapier laser destroyer. Simple enough to choose what to paint next!

I'm a huge fan of the rapier, and have owned a good half dozen of the old ones over the years. I was definitely excited to see Forge World sculpt an updated one! It's quite a bit larger than the old metal one, so it ended up on a 60mm base. I went back and repainted the body in black to match the current vehicle livery, and painted the two crewmen at the same time as I did the command squad, simples!

The command squad was a lot of fun to paint, with each model being very different from the next. I ended up cheating somewhat by repurposing the old company command banner bearer (as I've replaced him with something more fitting) so really there were only four models to paint. At this point, I have just a hair over 5000 points painted up and I think it's time for another group photograph!

In other news, this is post #399. Gonna have to come up with something fun for post #400 - I think it's high time for another giveaway!
