Easter cookies

This is a long overue post, but blogging isn't on my top priority list at the moment.... But here are the cookies I made for everybody, family and friends (and DBF's collegues) at Easter.

Usually people make cookies for Christmas, but a few years back when I first wanted to try and make cookies, it hapened to be Easter time. So I got a set of cookie cutters with a Spring/Easter theme from my local Hobbycraft. It was lucky because these are hard to come by. At least harder than Christmas ones.

The novelty is that I used chocolate for the eyes and decorations over the coloured icing. They should have the same taste, as I made only one batch of batter, but people said they prefered the chicks because they have an almond taste ! Suggestion of the colours ?

A little bit of stitching

I didn't craft much since the beginning of the year, but it's mostly the "January effect". Nice little depression every year. But I managed to get into the Easter/Spring/Stitching mood and made these mini projects.

First a little Flower fairy. It was an old freebie from a UK stitching magazine. Stitched in one thread on 16 count aida, with a few fractionals. The backstitch is quite intricate and gives the whole dimension to the picture.

Then I made a little chicken for Easter, I still need to turn it into a cushion.

Finally an Elisabeth Design for a pin cushion. The pattern calls for a 40 count evenweave (or linen), but I used 28 count by mistake. Well, I thought the fabric colour (cloudy brown) was perfect for it. So it's just a little bigger than expected, and the leaves look a bit sprse, but never mind.

Now and then when I feel like stitching, I'm doing yet another freebie from an old magazine, a hedgehog with flowers from DMC. 16 colours and tweaking, freebie kits weren't for the newbie faint hearted in those times !

Bunny doily

Once a year I like to make a filet doily for Easter. Preferably a bunny. I know filet crochet is old looking, but it's the first technique I learned as a teenager, and we could argue that it's close to pixel art...

Une fois par an je fais un napperon de pâques en filet. C'est la première technique que j'ai utilisée au crochet étant ado, même si ça fait vieillot.  Maintenant on pourrait dire que c'est du pixel art...

Here's the Easter bunny !

About 20 years ago, I made my first crochet project: a teddy bear in filet crochet. My mom sew it on a cushion, and I had to make a second one to have a pair. And, believe it or not, these teddies are still alive and present in the family sofa. Of course, my mom unsewed and resewed them onto new cushions (she made the cushions with the same fabric as the curtains both times) but the crochet pieces are still good as new.

So when I saw that table runner in "Crochet World", I had to make the bunny. It's a sort of "back to the origins". I never intended to make the whole thing, because I knew I wouldn't have time to finish before Easter. I think I will frame it or something.

Il y a environ 20 ans, mon tout premier projet en crochet était un nounours en crochet filet. Ma maman l'a cousu sur un coussin, et j'ai du en faire un second pour avoir la paire. Avec le temps, maman a décousu et recousu les nounours sur d'autres coussins (afin qu'ils soient dans le même tissu que les rideaux), mais ils trônent toujours dans le canapé familial.


Donc, quand j'ai vu cette nappe dans "Crochet World", j'ai voulu faire au moins le lapin. Car le projet total est grand, et je n'aurais jamais eu le temps de finir pour Paques !!! Je crois que je vais l'encadrer ou quelque chose comme ça....

More Easter tatting

 I tatted more bunnies, and eggs. They don't really look like eggs, I don't know why? Am I tatting too tight? Have you experienced that? The patterns are from the book "Tatted Easter Eggs".

Otherwise, I have sinusitis, thanks to Spring or something. So I'm in pain and barely able to think ;)

These days I spend a lot of time playing video games, Harvest Moon Grand bazaar (DS), Lego Harry Potter (PSP), Okamiden (DS) and now Lego Star Wars 3 (PSP) is coming out...

J'ai encore fait des lapins, et aussi des oeufs, qui ne ressemblent pas trop à des oeufs, je ne sais pas pourquoi? Les modèles viennent du livre "Tatted Easter Eggs".


Sinon, c'est le Printemps et paf, j'ai une sinusite. Et comme vous savez, c'est très douloureux et on ne sait plus trop réfléchir ;) 


En ce moment je joue beaucoup aux jeux videos. Cela a commencé avec "Harvest Moon Grand Baazaar" (NDS) il y a un moment (planter des choux et faire toute une tactique pour vendre le plus possible au marché du week end) puis je me suis mise à "Lego Harry Potter" (PSP) que j'ai fini (un miracle !) et "Okamiden" (DS). Et voilà que Lego Star Wars 3 arrive... hum...

A feel of Spring - Easter Bunny finished !!!

First, let me introduce you to Egghead chick, my newest critter. I might make him some friends for Easter...

But I'm sure you would be more interested in the fact that I finally finished the Easter Bunny !!! Click here to see a big picture. It's finished, and yet... it's not really finished, as I didn't write any names at the top or anything. And of course, I want to turn it into an egg shape bag like in the magazine.

Yesterday was particular, because I finally received the 2 CrossStitch Collection magazines I ordered on December 3rd !!!! I know about the postal strikes, and the fact that the magazines visited Europe (especially Germany) before reaching me, so I was leaving them until beginning of February... But here they are ! And in them, there are the Autumn and the Winter fairies from Joan Elliott. I especiually love the winter fairy, so I will start it straight away (this is why the bunny is finished so quick !)

So the Winter fairy... I will use a fabric my friend Kim dyed for me a while ago, all in purple and blue, very like the one in the magazine. And it's 16 aida. I have most of the threads, I think that in the long list I only miss 4 colours max. And I have the beads. So I'm basically ready to go !!!

Tout d'abord, laissez-moi vous présenter mon dernier petit, Crane d'oeuf le poussin. Je pense lui faire des petits amis pour Paques.

Mais vous serez surement plus intéressés par le lapin de Paques, qui est enfin fini !!!! Cliquez ici pour le voir en plus grand. Enfin, pas vraiment fini, car je n'ai pas mis de nom au dessus, et je dois encore en faire un sac en forme d'oeuf comme dans le magazine.

Hier j'ai enfin reçu les deux magazines CrossStitch Collection que j'avais commandés le 3 décembre. Avec les grèves des postes, et le fait qu'ils aient fait le tour de l'Europe (surtout en Allemagne), je leur avais laissé jusque début février, donc voilà. Ils ont les fées de l'Automne et de l'hiver de Joan Elliott. J'aime particulièrement celle d'hiver.

Et donc c'est le projet que je commence dès aujourd'hui. Je vais broder sur la toile mauve/bleue que Kim m'a teinte il y a un bout de temps, en aida, et qui ressemble fort à la toile du magazine. J'ai quasiment tous les fils (il ne 'en manque que 4 je crois), j'ai les perles, donc tout est prêt !

All the crosses are done, and I started the backstitching... Stitching has slowed down a little bit, because I share time with crochet, reading and DS, so...

First sandougurumi of the year : Flower Bunny

I was on full speed on the stitched bunny, and soon entering the wonderful world of backstitching when... I heard the call of crochet hooks.

Because I was brave enough to sort out my entire patterns colletion (stitching, sewing, tatting, crochet, etc...), and I decided to make a few crochet flowers. And then this bunny.With a flower.

It is a lot smaller than the picture seems to shiw, it's about 6cm tall. I hope to make more critters like that. It's weird how outside it's fully winter (even if we are not blocked by snow over here, we are lucky), and I already crafting Spring...

Au moment où j'avais fini les croix de l'Easter bunny, et que je m'approchais des points arrière, voilà que mes crochets m'appellent. Il faut dire que j'ai eu le courage de ranger mon armoire avec les grilles et bouquins de crafts, et donc j'ai fait quelques fleurs en crochet... Puis ce lapin !!! Avec une fleur...

Sa taille réelle est de 6cm, et j'espère lui donner des petits amis bientôt ! C'est étrange comme dehors l'hiver bat son plein (et encore, on n'est pas bloqués par la neige par ici), et pourtant je fais des trucs pour le printemps....

Progress on the bunny

Apparently, last time I worked on this, it was last January. I had started it about 2 years before, and I wasn't very inspired as it went back to UFO land quite rapidly.

Doesn't this sound familiar? Yes, Mama Christmas was in the same state. And I have high hopes, because these days I really work a lot on it, for hours at a time !!!

Apparemment, la dernière fois que j'ai travaillé sur ce lapin, c'était en janvier dernier, après l'avoir commencé deux ans avant. Et j'ai abandonné très vite.

Cela a l'air familier, he oui, Mama Christmas était dans le même cas, donc j'ai bon espoir de finir cette année-ci, surtout que j'ai beaucoup brodé dessus ces derniers jours, des heures à la fois !!!

Quite a prolific week end… I started to read blogs again, but of course my time is limited and the number of interesting blogs grows dramatically each day, so I only see a portion of what’s out there. But I suppose it’s the same for all of us ;)

Last week end I got “Japan Style” magazine, and they had an article on amigurumis. I felt an urge to make little crochet animals again. So I ordered the book they advice on. It’s Easter soon, and I want to make chicks and bunnies for the occasion. Lately I made miniatures, but for Easter decorations, I needed them to be bigger. So acrylic yarn yelled at me…

But here is the catch: I got rid of most of my yarn when I moved. Luckily I was saved by the local yarn store, with a 1 ball 1 euro sale.

Amazon being their usual efficient self, I got the book when I went to DBF’s on Friday (yes, I got it delivered to his place, for the free France to France delivery and other convieniences). It is packed with good ideas and original amigurumis, and I thought I was in Heaven on Friday night. But when I tried to make one them…. Let’s just say it’s not for beginners. I wanted to make the cute monsters, but the text called for a drawing that wasn’t there and stuff like that. I managed to make it at the end, but only because I have practice !

On Saturday we went to the new “Cultura” shop (books, crafts, dvds, video games and cds all in one !!! and they do have DMC threads !!!!) where I bought “Mr Funky’s patterns for funny girls”. This one I would recommend for beginners. Original fun presentation, and very Japanese style amigurumis and accessories. I’m making the bag at the moment. Of course I’ll have to go to the yarn store again because I ran out of yellow, but still….
So this week end I made the little monster, the chick and the duck/blue bird. And finished a doily.

Ce week end a été assez prolifique. Il faut dire que la lecture de vos blogs m’a à nouveau inspirée, ainsi que le magazine Japan Style qui a un article sur les amigurumis.Donc début de semain j’ai commandé le livre « Mes amigurumis » chez Amazon, avec livraison chez mon chéri (port gratuit de France à France, et autres avantages).

Pour Pâques, il me faut des poussins et des lapins, mais d’une certaine grandeur, donc il faut de la laine. Or, j’ai quasiment tout donné quand j’ai déménagé ! Mais j’ai eu la chance que la boutique locale faisait des soldes 1 pelote 1 euro.

Je dois dire que le livre « Mes Amigurumis » est loin d’être un livre pour débutants. Si vous ne savez pas crocheter ou pas terrible, ne commencez pas par celui-là. Prennez plutôt « Mr Funky’s modèles pour les funky girls » que j’ai acheté samedi à Cultura (livres, crafts, dvds, jeux videos et cds tout sous le même toit ! Ils ont même des fils DMC !!!)

Car quand un modèle se réfère à « selon le croquis » qui semble inexistant (j’en ai déduit que c’était celui de 3 modèles avant…), et qu’on ne voit pas trop comment ca marche, c’est difficile. Par contre les modèles sont très originaux, donc le livre est à recommander pour les gens qui ont fait des amigurumis basiques et veulent faire quelque chose de différent.

Donc ce week end, j’ai fait un petit monstre, un poussin, un canard / oiseau bleu, et je suis entrain de faire un sac, pour lequel je dois retourner à la boutique pour avoir encore plus de jaune…

Struck down by fever

If you stay in bed with a big cold most of the week, you don't expect to be sick again, and with fever this time????

I'm totally mad at life... On Friday, I made 2 extra bunnies. A little lady, with shawl and a flower, and a blue one. All was fine... Just a bit of headache due to my new glasses nobody seems to fit correctly to my face, and the lenses are a bit stronger...

Yesterday morning, woke up early and was finished shopping before 9am !!!! I was on a roll. I made those little chicks and flowers with cookie cutters and fimo.

I started making my big bag, and worked on it for about 6 hours. It's near completion, I need to make the bottom and the handles.

Around midday, i started to have a sore throat... and by 4pm I was shivering with fever ! Needless to say my night wasn't very restful.

Add to that the fact that I can't stop and stay in bed this week, it's really really unfair !!!!

Quand on est malade et qu'on reste au lit le plus gros de la semaine, on ne s'attend tout de meme pas a retomber malade si vite, et avec de la fievre en prime, non?

Vendredi, tout allait bien, j'ai fait les deux petits lapins en crochet.

Hier, j'ai commence sur les chapeaux de roue avec les courses finies avant 9h du mat, et des pendouillettes en fimo. Puis j'ai bosse sur mon sac, et j'aid u travailler dessus environ 6h au total. Vers midi, j'ai commence a avoir mal a la gorge, et a 4h je frissonnais de fievre.

Ce qui m'ennerve le plus est que je ne peux pas m'arreter cette semaine, donc... panique !

The Amigurumi invasion

Amigurumi = the art of crocheting in round.

Yesterday I finally got the courage to get my hook and yarns... I wanted to make the funny chicken I saw the pattern for on Deviantart. Big funny chicken, with "pipe cleaners" for feet ! It took about an hour to make, but then I couldn't stop, and I decide to make a bunny, without pattern.

Cute little bunny... I still have to work on the design a bit. I had to make a basket because it looked a bit unfinished on its own.

Then this morning I added brass flowers on the basket, and a big sunflower button.

Now I feel like making more... I love to crochet. It's my big paradox. I love the technique, and even more, I love to mak doilies because of all the different stitches. But, like lacemaking, I don't know what to do with the final product. Doilies shout little old lady house, and I like mine to have a more modern/country feel. So making little animals in crochet is a good output for me.

Only problem is that it's not really portable, with the ball of yarn and stuffing and all... I will have to try with smaller thread !!!

In the meantime, these are 2 additions to my Easter collection....

Amigurumi = crocheter en rond, en japonais.

Hier j'ai enfin eu le courage de prendre mon crochet et de la laine pour faire le petit poulet que j'avais vu sur le net. Enfin, un gros poulet amusant, avec des pieds en "cure-pipe". Ca n'a pris qu'une heure a faire, et apres je ne pouvais plus m'arreter, et j'ai fait un petit lapin, cette fois-ci sans patron.

Mon lapinou tout mignon... Je dois encore travailler sur ce design. Il semblait bizarre tout seul comme ca, donc j'ai fait un panier decore de fleurs. Et je dois encore en faire d'autres !!!

J'aime faire du crochet. J'aime la technique, mais je n'aime pas faire des articles vestimentaires (j'aime pas le look, et c'est trop long !), je prefere faire le style napperon, avec les differents points, mais que ferais-je de napperons? Je ne veux pas les mettre chez moi, ca fait trop "petite vieille". Donc je vis dans un paradoxe... Au moins, les petits animaux, c'est rigolos !!!

Le seul truc ce'st que c'est pas tres portable, comme le point de croix, il faudrait que j'essaye en coton fin....

Une cocotte sur un mur...

My cold kept me in bed for 4 days... not fun !
Many of you went to "L'aiguille en fete" in Paris, all about stitching and needlework, and I wish I could have been there. Well, I could go next year, but then the reports on different blogs are a bit discoureaging, too many people, rude and pushing... I've lived in England for 10 years, I'm not sure I can face that again... Well, I have a whole year to think about it !!!

But I have to say that in London expos, or even in the tube and streets of London, when you hear people complaining or arguing, bingo ! it's French people. Sometimes we try to stay well away from them in the metro and such... Then it's no wondered french people are classified as "rude". Such a shame...

Anyway, the picture is the little "cocotte" (hen) I made last night, all in felt. I reeeeeeally don't feel like doing Easter for some reason. So hey... I decided to concentrate on a gift I'm stitching. Because Blogger doesn't allow password protection of individual posts, I posted (and will be posting) on my website at http://angelsan.free.fr

Mon rhume m'a gardee au lit... 4 jours ! Pas drole !

Je vois que de nombreuses d'entre vous ont ete a l'Aiguille en Fete a Paris, et j'aurais bien voulu y etre. Peut etre l'an prochain. Mais aurais-je envie de faire l'effort quand vous dites qu'il y avait plein de monde, qui etaient impolis et pousseurs, tout ca? Ca fait 10 ans que je vis en Angleterre, arriverais-je a survivre a la jungle?

Ceci est un sujet dont on parle parfois avec DBF... dans une expo anglaise, ou dans les rues de Londres, quand on entend quelqu'un rouspeter ou s'engeuler, ce sont systematiquement des francais. Dommage, ya aps de quoi etre fiers, et du coup on nous colle l'etiquette de "impoli", et ca en devient une caricature...

Evidemment, la corrolation ne marche que dans ce sens-la, ca ne veut pas dire que tous les francais ralent dans les rues de Londres, evidemment ! Mais il suffit d'une personne pour ruiner la reputation de tous.

Bon, sinon, la photo est une petite "cocotte" que j'ai faite hier soir, mais je suis pas d'humeur Paques. Alors je fais mes "devoirs" et je brode un cadeau. Comme sur Blogspot je ne peux pas faire de message protege, ca se trouve sur mon site web a http://angelsan.free.fr

Hoppy bunny finished

Well, big cold, head not functionning... so I stuck with this one project, and it's now finished !!! Still need to sew the cushion, but soon....

What saved it is using a size 28 needle, so it was easier to go through the tiny holes !!!

Now I'm stitching a surprise, so, chhht !!!

L'avantage d'un rhume qui handicape le cerveau, c'est que je suis restee sur le meme projet tout le week end, et il est donc fini ! Ce qui l'a sauve c'est l'utilisation d'une aiguile 28 (tres fine), qui entrait plus facilement les mini trous.

Il faut encore coudre le coussin, mais ca ne va pas tarder.

Maintenant je brode un cadeau, alors... chhhttt

Finishes and my bunny in grey

First free week end in a while: I was waiting for it, to do some sewing and more crafts... Well, maybe not.

Yesterday evening I came down with a sore throat. In my case, it's the first sign of a "3 nights in bed" period, so on top of the pain, it's frustrating to see that happen just before the week end. Not to mention that I have to take care of my cells at work, they need daily supervision.

Anyway, yesterday I made.... an egg ! A felt egg one of course. I'm not really happy with the way it turned out. I made the rose, and the 2 weird looking leaves. I had to compensate with the rest...

And on Tuesday I made a little pincushion flower for my mom.

And, final point of the "show and tell", Terry Ann stitched my little bunny, in grey, so come have a look over here.

I have to agree with you, Pink canary, and stitcherw, Easter seems to come early, and I don't really feel like making decorations for it.

patternnuts, don't worry, I have to admit I had to dig a bit in order to find my original answer to the "7 things"... Maybe i should post less ;)

Elisabeth, I have to agree with you: the best stitching show in London is Alexandra Palace in October. The place is huge, and even if they have loads of paper, there's also loads of stitching and quilting. I was kinda sad I wasn't able to go this year because of my move ! Olympia has its charms as well. It's lead by the magazines, and they have the added bonus of having the designers there to chat with us. But it's a lot smaller than Alexandra palace... Cozy?

Oh, and the so called "discount kits" are actually more expensive than on the web !!!! So...

Generally speaking, I don't understand the latest paper craze. You spend a lot of money to make cards... or a photo album... Not to mention that a 5 years old can do it. So where is the challenge and sense of achievement? The debate is open...

Mon premier week end ou je m'attendais a faire plein de trucs, de couture et de bricolage, et vlan ! mal de gorge. Chez moi, ce'st le premier signe du gros rhume qui me colle au lit pendant 3 jours. donc en plus de la douleur, c'est frustrant !!!! Sans compter qu'au boulot mes petites cellules ont besoin de mon attention quotidienne....

Bon, hier j'ai fait... un oeuf. Je le trouve pas terrible, j'ai du compenser la grosse rose et les feuilles bizarres avec le reste. Enfin, c'est un coup d'essai... En plus, comme disent pink canary et Stitcherw, Paques arrive tot cette annee, et j'ai pas la motivation pour faire des trucs sur ce theme.

Mardi j'ai fait un pique aiguille fleur pour ma maman.

Et finalement Terry Ann a borde mon petit lapin en gris, venez voir ca !!!
Je dois dire que je suis assez envieuse de celles qui vont aller a l'Aiguille en fete ce week end a Paris... Ma derniere expo ayant ete un desastre papetier...

D'ailleurs, je me demande toujours pourquoi les trucs papiers sont tellement a la mode? Il faut acheter les elements hyper chers, pour faire des trucs qu'un gamin de 5 ans peut faire. Ou est le challenge et le sens de l'accomplissement? The debat reste ouvert...

I'm a big tease...

Mostly because of lack of time, or something like that...
Here is my first Easter ornie, front and back. I had loads of fun designing this. I actually ended up designing as I stitch !

Technical details: stitched on my green marbled 32 count linen, over 2. The 2 pieces are sewn in "biscornu like" technique, incorporating seed beads. The cord was hand made with the orange and yellow threads of the design.

As I merrily created on the go, I took pictures and prepared notes for you. I guess this is the part justifying paying the designers for charts: the charting and pdfing part. Meaning I have quite some computer time to spend before I can get the chart out.

I guess I should ask for a better charting software for Christmas ;)

I am already planning on doing more: getting a real egg shape (here it's more of an oval), and more designs. It will be fun.

With DBF leaving today, and Mom coming tomorrow, stitching time is a bit reduced, but... you know how it is...

Une mise en bouche seulement (ie. le produit fini sans la grille !!!) car j'ai pas vraiment le temps.. J'ai pris les photos pour le tuto pour faire l'oeuf, a la maniere des biscornus en fait, avec des perles en prime.

Il me faut bien du temps pour faire la grille, le tuto, mettre en pdf, tout ca... je vois maintenant pourquoi les designers sont payees pour leur boulot ;)

J'ai cree surtout en brodant, ce qui etait tres fun, et j'ai encore d'autres idees pour en faire d'autres !!!

Evidemment, avec DBF partant aujourd'hui, et maman arrivant demain, ya pas trop de temps, mais bon.. c'est la vie !!!
