Winter Fairy Update

This is my very long project. Started in 2010, worked on in 2015, it's back in progress.

Winter Fairy Progress 4

Looks like every year I add a few stitches to this project. It's big, it's long, but I don't have to produce a lot of projects, so... Never mind. I worked on this before stitching Archie Santa, but didn't take a picture, and it's too big for the scanner.

Now we will have a hiatus for Christmas projects; but I wanted to document where I was with this.

Winter Fairy progress 3

I had to dig deep into the blog to find when I last posted about this project. February 2010. Looks like I worked hard on it for about a week, then left it 5 years. Now that's what I would call an UFO !!!

Of course I'm in a white/very light grey/ very light blue zone, not ideal  to start stitching again after years of absolutely no stitching ! How, well....

J'ai du creuser loin pour retrouver quand j'ai commencé ce projet. Février 2010. On dirait que j'ai travaillé dur dessus pendant 1 semaine, puis plus rien pendant 5 ans ! En prime, je suis dans une zone riche en blanc, gris presque blanc et bleu presque blanc... une joie pour recommencer le point de croix !

Winter Fairy progress

Yes, I'm back from our "24h in London". It was quite intense, but good ! I managed to buy what I wanted, and even a nice kawai messenger bag (on sale !!!). The hotel (well, bed and breakfast) we went to was basic but very well situated near Warren Street.

I had never noticed how many stairs there are in London. Loads in the underground, and as we went to specific shops using their basement as well as the ground floor, oh, more stairs ! ;)

I was sad to see so many shops closed. No more Virgin/Zavvy Mega Store. No more Borders. And no more nice little newsagent in the middle of Oxford Street to buy US magazines...

The Renegades concert was interesting. It was in that little pub/concert place, and it was absolutely packed ! You enter the bar, then there is an extra room with the stage. We were very close to the stage, but I had to forfeit and go back to the pub zone, where I found a chair from where I was able to see the concert on screen (I'm small, so even close to the stage, I couldn't see anything). And apparently it was a good idea because I left just before the pogo !!! It was weird to have all the fans packed in the concert zone when the pub was filled with people just having their Friday night social drinking !!!

Anyway, I didn't stitch on the trip, but I did yesterday, and you can see a body and wings coming out.... Annie, I always finish the head first, backstitching included, I don't know... it's like I want to be sure that the most important part, the head, is ok, before stitching the rest. A little as if I would stop stitching it if it didn't look good. No bad surprise in the end !

Me voilà de retour des 24h de Londres. On a fait du bon shopping, j'ai même trouvé un beau sac kawai en soldes, l'hotel était bien situé même s'il était basique. Je n'avais jamais remarqué combien d'escaliers il y avait à Londres. dans le métro, les boutiques, etc... Ca sent la vieille ville !

J'ai été déçue de voir tant de boutiques fermées, comme le Virgin megastore, Borders, et surtout le marchand de journaux qui vendait les magazines américains !

Le concert de Renegades était intéressant. C'était dans un pub avec salle de concert, et comme c'était petit, on était près de la scène. Mais pour moi qui suis petite, ça ne faisait pas trop mon affaire, je ne voyais rien quand même ! On était tellement compressés que j'ai abandonné et je suis retournée dans la partie bar, où j'ai trouvé une chaise d'où je voyais très bien le concert... sur écran ! Et mon timing était parfait, car peu après mon départ, il y a eu un pogo !!!

Je n'ai pas brodé pendant le voyage, mais j'ai avancé hier sur la winter fairy, qui commence à avoir un corps et des ailes.

It's been a few days since I started this one. Well, Sunday I think. As usually, I went for the head. But this time it took a lot longer. There are a lot of fractionals and colours. It's not a problem technically, but the chart is very detailed and it's hard to follow, so it takes more time than usual to stitch. But the resultat is nice in the end, isn't it?

Today we are leaving for our "24h in London" trip. The main goal is the "Renegades" concert (whoever heard of them rise your hand, that would be a first, they are new, well, they were called "Feeder" before, and I doubt anybody outside of the UK ever heard of them) tonight. Then a bit of shopping, I hope....

I also hope I won't be too cold or too hot, when it's freezing outside, and inside is overheated, how do you dress? Yes, that's what we are up against... ;) London is hardly the land of stitchers, so I will consider myself happy if I can grab CrossStitcher and WOCS...

J'ai commencé cette fée dimanche, ça fait un bout de temps mais je voulais que la tête soit finie. Et cela a pris plus de temps que prévu, car c'est tellement détaillé, avec des fractionals, que c'est dur de ne pas se tromper, et on brode plus lentement. Mais le résultat est là ;)

Aujourd'hui nous partons pour les "24h londoniens", dont le but principal est le concert de "Renegades" ce soir (si vous connaissez, vous êtes balaises, car à part les anglais, et encore, ils doivent connaitre sous le nom de "Feeder"... donc si vous connaissez, faites-moi signe !!!)

Et bien sûr on espère faire un peu de shopping, mais comme Londres est loin d'être le monde des brodeuses, si j'arrive à trouver CrossStitcher et WOCS, je serai bien contente !!!

A feel of Spring - Easter Bunny finished !!!

First, let me introduce you to Egghead chick, my newest critter. I might make him some friends for Easter...

But I'm sure you would be more interested in the fact that I finally finished the Easter Bunny !!! Click here to see a big picture. It's finished, and yet... it's not really finished, as I didn't write any names at the top or anything. And of course, I want to turn it into an egg shape bag like in the magazine.

Yesterday was particular, because I finally received the 2 CrossStitch Collection magazines I ordered on December 3rd !!!! I know about the postal strikes, and the fact that the magazines visited Europe (especially Germany) before reaching me, so I was leaving them until beginning of February... But here they are ! And in them, there are the Autumn and the Winter fairies from Joan Elliott. I especiually love the winter fairy, so I will start it straight away (this is why the bunny is finished so quick !)

So the Winter fairy... I will use a fabric my friend Kim dyed for me a while ago, all in purple and blue, very like the one in the magazine. And it's 16 aida. I have most of the threads, I think that in the long list I only miss 4 colours max. And I have the beads. So I'm basically ready to go !!!

Tout d'abord, laissez-moi vous présenter mon dernier petit, Crane d'oeuf le poussin. Je pense lui faire des petits amis pour Paques.

Mais vous serez surement plus intéressés par le lapin de Paques, qui est enfin fini !!!! Cliquez ici pour le voir en plus grand. Enfin, pas vraiment fini, car je n'ai pas mis de nom au dessus, et je dois encore en faire un sac en forme d'oeuf comme dans le magazine.

Hier j'ai enfin reçu les deux magazines CrossStitch Collection que j'avais commandés le 3 décembre. Avec les grèves des postes, et le fait qu'ils aient fait le tour de l'Europe (surtout en Allemagne), je leur avais laissé jusque début février, donc voilà. Ils ont les fées de l'Automne et de l'hiver de Joan Elliott. J'aime particulièrement celle d'hiver.

Et donc c'est le projet que je commence dès aujourd'hui. Je vais broder sur la toile mauve/bleue que Kim m'a teinte il y a un bout de temps, en aida, et qui ressemble fort à la toile du magazine. J'ai quasiment tous les fils (il ne 'en manque que 4 je crois), j'ai les perles, donc tout est prêt !

Easter Bunny progress

All the crosses are done, and I started the backstitching... Stitching has slowed down a little bit, because I share time with crochet, reading and DS, so...

Toutes les croix sont faites, reste le contour... (et les perles). Evidemment, avec le crochet, la lecture, la DS, je ne vais plus aussi vite, mais tout de même...

Progress on the bunny

Apparently, last time I worked on this, it was last January. I had started it about 2 years before, and I wasn't very inspired as it went back to UFO land quite rapidly.

Doesn't this sound familiar? Yes, Mama Christmas was in the same state. And I have high hopes, because these days I really work a lot on it, for hours at a time !!!

Apparemment, la dernière fois que j'ai travaillé sur ce lapin, c'était en janvier dernier, après l'avoir commencé deux ans avant. Et j'ai abandonné très vite.

Cela a l'air familier, he oui, Mama Christmas était dans le même cas, donc j'ai bon espoir de finir cette année-ci, surtout que j'ai beaucoup brodé dessus ces derniers jours, des heures à la fois !!!

Mama Christmas is the first happy dance of the year !

First, thank you all for your warm wishes. This year New Year's eve and day were pretty calm, and I realised a stitcher's dream : stitching on New Year's eve when I wasn't cooking or eating !

Somehow I became possessed with the stitching bug, and I spent most of the last two days stitching : the back stitch, in green, black and gold, and the beads.

So yesterday evening, at last, Mama Christmas was done ! and she's the first to get a "2010" sig !

Now I decided to work on the Easter bunny a little bit, as I'm in the mood for working on abandoned difficult projects...

Tout d'abord, merci pour vos bons voeux ! Cette année j'ai réalisé le rêve des brodeuses : broder durant le réveillon, et tout le jour de l'an ! C'était comme si j'étais possédée par l'esprit brodeur : il me fallait finir Mama Christmas. Pourtant, tout les points arrières en vert, noir et doré étaient longs. Les perles, ça n'a pris qu'une soirée.

Mais au final, Mama Christmas est la première toile estampillée "2010".

Maintenant, je vais travailler un peu sur le lapin de paques, car je suis toujours dans l'esprit de continuer des projets difficiles

It's all in the title.... ;)

I wanted to progress and maybe finish Mama Christmas for today, but on Monday I was struck by a big cold, and every part of my body was aching, including my fingers, so no stitching !!!

But of course, I keep on going... The gold border is nearly done, but I still need to do the corners, the wings, and of course... the loooooooong backstitch ! Now the question is... until when will I stitch it? ;)

I made some cookies for Christmas. I was well inspired to make them on Sunday, just in case, because I would have been unable to make them later on !

So I made them vanilla or cinnamon, the vanilla are best... And there is the coloured icing, and you can see me painting all the mini cookies here. I also made labels to customise the little bags I gave to my family for Christmas !!!

Joyeux Noel à tous !!!!

Je voulais presque finir Mama Christmas pour Noel, mais lundi j'ai commencé à avoir mal partout, y compris dans les doigts, donc plus de broderie ! He oui, j'ai un gros rhume, et j'ai été bien inspirée de faire mes biscuits de Noel en avance dimanche, car cela aurait été mission impossible !!!

Comme vous le voyez, après, la confection des biscuits, il a fallu les peindre avec le glacage coloré, et j'ai même poussé jusqu'à faire des petits sachets avec des étiquettes personalisées !!!

Je vais continuer à broder Mama Christmas pour l'instant, mais jusqu'à quand?

Mama done?

This is such a loooong stitch ! I think the Mama Christmas is mostly done, and I'm doing the gold surrundings now. I hate stitching with metallics. But this new DMC thread combined with stranded cotton seems ok.

Then of course it will be the border, and it will also take quite some time...

Ceci est un projet très très long... le personnage est fait, et je suis dans la bordure metallique, et j'ai horreur de broder avec des fils metalliques, même si le nouveau DMC combiné à du coton n'est pas trop l'horreur.

Et bien sûr il restera encore tout le contour, encore un truc très long à faire.... ;)

Emerging from hibernation

I know, I know, it's been a veeeeery lon g time.... Actually, I thought of abandonning this blog . I just see no point, as I don't really spend any time on the web at all. No emails, no reading blogs... But then I thought I was still making things, and so I would miss something if i don't keep track of it. I need at least pictures with dates.

So here we go. Mama Christmas is back. I don't have the energy to start Christmas projects to make ornaments, and it's such a long time ufo... I still believe it will be finished one day, even if I'm an old lady by then ;)

Here in France, there are a lot of magazines with crochet doilies and such. And this year there were snowflakes and other such things, so... It's a whole thing. I find it hard to concentrate on long projects, but thise snowflakes and photophores are done in a couple hours. So I started with the snowflakes, and they are now in the tree.

And then there are the photophores. It's an on going project, and I try various techniques. Last year was glass engraving, and this year... crochet. And it's a nice way to recycle yahourt pots. I like photophores, because it's a safe and clean way of having candles around the house.

Ca fait un bail que je n'ai pas posté, et pour être honnête, j'ai bien failli abandonner ce blog. Après tout, je ne suis jamais sur internet, je ne lis même pas les blogs des autres ! Mais comme je continue à faire des trucs , je veux garder une trace quand même. Donc me voilà !

Mama Christmas est de retour. Petit à petit... je suis sure que je vais la finir, même si je suis une vieille dame à ce moment-là !

En France, on a beaucoup de magazines avec des napperons, et cette année ils se diversifient en faisant des flocons de neige et tout ça, donc c'est l'occasion de faire des décos de sapin. Et aussi des photophores. Ce sont des trucs faits en une heure ou deux, et c'est parfait pour moi en ce moment, vu que je n'arrive pas à me concentrer sur des projets de longue haleine.

J'adore les photophores. C'est une manière propre et sécuritaire d'avoir des bougies dans la maison !

Stitching fairy finished !!!

I wanted to finish it yesterday, and the mission is completed ! My grandma had problems and fainted a few times because of low pressure (she took the wrong meds together), so we did a bit of "granny sitting" yesterday afternoon and evening, and this time I took my stitching with me.

Of course grandma is all ok now, we had to stay just in case (she's living alone and has a tendancy to think she's much younger than she is...)

I really enjoyed stitching this project, and the big challenge was all that silver metallic stitching. But I used one thread of metallic and one of cotton, and it was ok. I have to say the new DMC metallics are a lot stronger than before... that's also an advantage.

I didn't do the french knots on the yellow of the clothes because I don't like polka dots, and the project is "busy" enough !

Because I don't feel like starting a new project, and I'm still in a Joan Elliott period, so I'm going to work on Mama Christmas next.

Je voulais finir la stitching fairy hier, et c'est mission accomplie ! Même si on a du faire du "grandmère sitting" hier, car elle a fait des malaises (chute de tension pour cause de mauvais mix de médicaments), mais j'avais pris de quoi broder. Elle va bien maintenant, il fallait juste la surveiller car elle a tendance à croire qu'elle a 20ans, et comme elle vit seule...

Donc, la stitching fairy... j'ai beaucoup aimé la broder, le plus difficile était tout l'argenté à faire, mais grâce aux nouveaux fils DMC plus solides et le fait de mélanger métallique et coton, ca a été.

Je n'ai ps fait les pois sur la robe car je n'aime pas ça,e t cela ferait trop chargé.

Et maintenant je reprends Mama Christmas car je n'ai pas envie de commencer quelque chose, et je suis toujours à fond dans Joan Elliott !

Pre long week end update

Not many words... except the progress is visible in a week ;)

Sunday update

Yesterday something rare happened: a day where all I did was stitching, except for a trip into town. And it was so good !!! So I hope you can see the progress on this picture ;)

Nath, I think you confuse this stitching fairy with the stitching angel I finished last year. Nearly same position but in reverse, mostly pink and blue... And I didn't work on this project for a long time, so I guess we could think it was finished ;)

Annelize, thank you very much for your offer, but I don't think I would want to stitch that new Somebunny in CS Crazy. I's a weird individual,I'm not normally an Somebunny fan, but this particular one was so cute I had to stitch it.

I hope I get another stitching day today...

Hier il s'est passé quelque chose de rare : un jour entier de broderie, à part une petite virée en ville. J'espère que le progrès se voit sur la photo !!!

Nath, je crois que tu confonds cette stitching fairy avec la stitching angel que j'ai finie l'an dernier et qui est très similaire, même position mais à l'envers, et dominante rose et bleu.
Et comme ca fait mongtemps que je n'ai plus brodé sur ce projet, je suppose qu'on pouvait penser qu'il était terminé.

J'espère avoir un autre jour plein de broderie aujourd'hui...

The stitching fairy is back !

Thank you all for the comments ! I have an idea for the bunny: I have a round crocheted purse I use to put my night stuff when I travel, but it's a bit plain... So it could do with a little bunny on it !

Now, the fairy... Why ressusitate this project? It's a long process...

Originally I wanted to stitch something DMC style, with loads of backstitch. So I took a flower fairy I started ages ago. But all the different creams, and the non coloured pattern weren't that fun. Then I wanted to start one of Joan Elliott's ladies. And while looking for the patterns I found this fairy in my stuff...

So there you go: coloured pattern and loads of backstitching ! Unfortunatly it's also loads of colour changes, but... I will manage ;)

Merci pour tous vos commentaires !!! J'ai une idée pour mon lapin: j'ai une trousse ronde en crochet que je trimballe partout quand je voyage, où je mets mes affaires de nuit. Le lapin serait parfait la dessus !

Maintenant, le projet actuel a sa propre petite histoire... pourquoi ressuciter justement celui-là?

Au départ, je voulais un projet avec beaucoup de backstitch. Donc j'ai repris un vieux Flower fairy en cours, mais comme la grille n'est pas en couleur, c'était bof. Et en regardant la Renaissance Lady sur le mur, j'ai eu envie de faire une des dames de Joan Elliott. Et c'est en cherchant les grilles que je suis tombée sur la fée brodeuse, que j'avais un peu oubliée !

Donc elle était toute désignée: plein de backstitch, grille en couleur, et bon, un peu trop de changements de couleur à mon gout, mais bon... on fera avec !!!

Post weekend pictures

Well, I felt stitchy end of the week and during the week end, so I progressed a bit.

First, the birds, I stitched the boring snow, leaves and a bird. Boring because it's long lines of white.

Then the bunny.... I made the basket, and it wasn't easy, because of the different browns. Plus I forgot some colours at home, so I had to stitch here and there with what I had (ok, most of the colours, but still...)

So now guess what? it's time to stitch....

La fin de la semaine dernière et ce week end j'ai brodé pas mal, et donc voici les photos !

Tout d'abord, on a les oiseaux. Là, j'ai surtout fait la neige, ce qui était fastidieux car c'est des longues lignes.

Et aussi, le lapin... J'ai fait le panier, qui n'était pas évident à cause des différents bruns. Et j'avais oublié des couleurs à la maison, alors... j'ai du m'en passer !

Et maintenant, je retourne à la broderie....

Am I too early?

Look what I decided to work on... Yes, Joan Elliott's Easter bunny from US CrossStitcher. I started it about 2 years ago?

This might seem a bit early to work on, especially with all the snow and frost we are having, but this is a big project, so I don't think I will be finished before Easter !

I seem to survive the new polar winter, but I caught a big cold, so no fun !!!

Ca peut paraitre bizarre, mais j'ai décidé de broder ce lapin de Paques. C'est encore un Joan Elliott, paru il y a quelques années dans le CrossStitcher américain.

Comme c'est un grand projet, et que je l'ai déjà commencé il y a environ 2 ans, je ne pense pas finir avant paques.

Jai l'air de survivre dans la neige et la glace, mais j'ai attrapé un gros rhume, pas cool !

Finally finished !!!!

This was long and painful.... But I finally finished the backstitching and beads of the winter angel. Click on the picture to see the details....

So after days of grey lines, I might start "Needlework shop" from Country Cottage Needlework. I like the cartoonesque look the backstitching gives to the project, but it's so loooong !!!

The bads were fun, and I added a snowflake at the back to equilibrate. I obviously left out a lot of the snowflakes, the picture is already very blinky !

Enfin fini ! on peut dire que ça a été long et fastidieux de faire tant de points arrières en gris, même si j'aime le look cartoon que ça donne.

Les perles étaient fun à faire, j'ai fait un flocon à l'arrière pour équilibrer, mais je n'ai pas fait tous les flocons car ça blinque déjà pas mal comme ça !

Maintenant, je vais surement me mettre à "Needlework shop" de Country Cottage Needlework.
