A new year catch up and many wishes

It's been 2 months, but I've been very very busy.

I had 2 Christmas markets, and they went ok, even if people seem to want to buy food and not much else. So I'm thinking about making some of my family acclaimed biscuits as a test next year...

I modified my stand this year, so look at the pictures :

I also made presents, a crochet cosy for my dad's ipad, and a blue snood, originally for me, but my mom wanted it, so.... It was my first time working on such big needles 10mm.

And I also want to try and sew a bit more, so here is a Christmas tree in fabric

At the moment I'm knitting a vest for me, in almond green, it should look good.

Ca fait deux mois, durant lesquels j'ai été très occupée. D'abord avec 2 marchés de noel, qui se sont bien passés malgré le fait que les gens n'achètent quasiment que de la nourriture. Je crois que je vais essayer de faire mes fameux biscuits l'an prochain.

J'ai aussi fait des cadeaux, une pochette à mini ipad, un snood, et j'ai fait un peu de couture, avec ce sapin en tissu de noel.

Pour l'instant je tricote une veste vert amande pour moi, j'es^ère que ce sera super !

Tamara's mits

DBF's sister asked me to make her some fingerless mittens because her hands are always cold. She gave me that old (something like 30 year old) chenille  yarn to make them. I used my favourite pattern for fingerless mits, Knucks.

I used 4mm circulars (except for the fingers), and I had to decrease a lot because of the thickness of the yarn! But I managed in the end.

La sœur de DBF voulait des mitaines car elle a toujours froid aux mains, et elle m'a donné cette vieille laine chenille (plus de 30 ans, ma mère a utilisé la même quand j'étais petite !) pour le faire.

J'ai utilisé mon modèle préféré pour les mitaines, Knucks, mais j'ai pris des aiguilles circulaires 4mm et diminué fameusement à cause de l'épaisseur de la laine. Mais j'y suis arrivée à la fin.

Kaki socks finished !

After all that cooking, I just wanted to show you my finished socks that you previously saw still on the needles !

Après toute cette cuisine, je voulais juste montrer mes chaussettes finies.

Knitting 2 socks toe up at a time

We suddenly went from blistering hot summer to cold. And of course the heating isn't on yet (the joys of collectivity heating in flats), and I'm really cold, especially the feet. And in this case slippers won't do for me, I need knitted socks.

Usually my mom knits me some with her knitting machine, but I wanted to try and make my own on circular needles, starting from the toe with Judy's cast on, and 2 socks at a time. 

Starting from the toe allows me to stop the sock whenever I feel like it, and the finish result of the toe is nicer (no visible sewing line). As for the 2 socks at once.... I tend to start a sock, and when I'm done, I'm too lazy to make the second one ! Not to mention that you have to count rounds religiously in order to have identical socks !

I took this picture with the work ongoing for my grandma, who never saw circular needles in her life, but enjoyed knitting socks on dpns once upon a time....

Comme on est passés du super chaud au froid en peu de temps, le chauffage collectif n'est pas rallumé, et donc j'ai froid aux pieds. Et dans un cas pareil, seules les chaussettes tricotées (pas les pantoufles, pas les chaussettes commerciales) font l'affaire.

D'habitude ma maman utilise sa machine à tricoter pour me faire des paires, mais cette fois-ci j'ai voulu relever le défit de faire des chaussettes sur aiguilles circulaires, à partir des orteils, et les deux à la fois.

Tricoter à partir des orteils permet d'avoir des orteils plus beaux (pas de couture), et on peut s’arrêter quand on le sent. Et faire les deux chaussettes en même temps est essentiel pour quelqu'un comme moi qui n'aime pas compter les rangs, et qui a tendance à "oublier" de tricoter la deuxième !!!

J'ai pris la photo du travail en cours pour montrer à ma grand mère, car elle a du mal à visualiser ce que je lui ai raconté !

stuff made since last time

Lately I've knitted long projects, taking up to more than a month to complete. Then I got lazy posting, so here are the things now. There is a picture of the fuschia top you saw in "scarf" state. I made the mistake of using acrylic, so it's surprisingly warm, and as we had a very hot summer...

There is the camel coton/acrylic jumper I made. It's a pattern from the book "Knit to flatter", and I had problems with it. First, it's not long enough, so I had to knit and sew an extra band of the lace trim. And the shoulders are a bit weird, but never mind...

And there is the square green shawl I made "in the round" in circular needles. It is just ok as a lap cover, but it is small and awkward as a shawl. I don't wear shawls anyway, so it doesn't matter

Ces derniers temps j'ai tricoté des choses qui prennent jusqu'à plus d'un mois et donc je ne poste que maintenant.

On a mon haut fuschia que vous avez vu sous sa forme "écharpe", et est maintenant fini, mais comme c'est en acrylique, c'était trop chaud pour porter cet été.

On a le pull d'été marron du livre "Knit to flatter" qui m'a donné du fil à tordre. En coton/acrylique, le fil donne un rendu bizarre, mais surtout le pull était trop court, j'ai du tricoter et coudre une autre bande du bord.

Et on a le chale carré vert tricoté en rond sur circulaires qui est un peu trop petit pour faire chale, mais bon comme mini couverture.

Rasberry top or long scarf ?

I was reading Knit Simple, and fell in love with this strange pattern : you knit a long piece of twisted rib fabric, then sew it so it gives you a draped top. But for the moment it's just a very long scarf ;)

I found that rasberry yarn in Mondial Tissus, so easy to get to ! We'll see the end result in about a week I suppose.

Il fallait absolument que j'essaye ce patron drapé vu dans Knit Simple. A partir d'une longue pièce en cotes torses, tout est dans la couture, qui reste minimale.

La laine vient de Mondial Tissus qui a eu la bonne idée de réouvrir ici plus loin. Il reste environ une semaine de long tricot avant de voir la fin !

The game of cardigans

With lots of catching up to do, I will have themed posts in the next days. Today I will talk about the main crafting activity : knitting cardigans.

Comme il y a beaucoup de choses à rattraper, ces jours prochains les posts seront thématiques. Et commençons avec l'activité qui a pris le plus de temps : les gilets et pulls tricotés. Chacun prend environ 3 semaines !!!

I started with a lovely and manly grey cardigan for DBF. Here is the pattern. It was my first cardigan knit, with raglan sleeves on top of it. It took 3 weeks or so, but I love the way it turned out. It's a very nice pattern, the cardi fits me too !

It's so cold these days DBF has already worn it a lot..

J'ai commencé avec un gilet gris pour DBF, et ce fut un succès pour une première fois. Le gilet tombe super bien, et il me va bien aussi ! Un patron à retenir.

Il fait si froid ces jours-ci que DBF l'a déjà beaucoup porté...

Fueled with this first success, I started a blue v necked sweater for me. (yes, it's DBF who is modelling it, not me)

And the problems began. Too saggy, and the sleeves are too long, even for DBF. Needless to say it didn't fit me, and it was too big for DBF, so with nobody to wear it, I frogged the whole thing. This picture is all that's left of the sweater.

Forte de ce premier succès, j'ai tricoté un pull bleu pour moi. Et là, cata, il est trop sac à patates , et les manches sont trop longues, même pour DBF, qui pourtant porte le pull sur la photo.

Comme personne ne pouvait le porter, j'ai tout défait !

I thought that a lacy cardigan would be better on my plump figure, so I made this blue cardigan with the frogged yarn. (no, this time DBF didn't model it, it would have been too ridiculous). Pattern here.

I'm still not 100% satisfied, it is a bit too short (for my taste) and it seems to be made for people with broad shoulders, but this time it will have to shape on me, or nothing. I'm already using it to warm myself up in the evening.... did I mention that it was still cold here?

Note that the buttons are pearly blue flowers....

J'ai donc utilisé la laine bleue pour faire ce gilet. Il ne me va pas encore 100% bien (pas assez long à mon gout et les épaules sont trop larges, mais cette fois-ci, il restera comme ça. Après tout, il est très confortable le soir devant la télé.... Ai-je déjà dit qu'il faisait froid?

Emerging from winter

It's been 2 months since the last post. 2 months  !!!! Why? Well... I've been knitting cardigans, crocheting little things, and cooking sweets. But I didn't feel like taking pictures, writing uninspired blab to post on the blog. The whole operation takes time, and I didn't want to bother. Add to this the awful weather we are having, virtually no Spring yet !!!

Ok, I'm enjoying the fact that I can still wear the knitting stuff I made, but still.... what about being able to knit on a bench in the park? Not yet....

Ca fait deux mois que je n'ai pas mis à jour.... Mais entre la déprime du temps pourri (où est le printemps????) et mon activité hors ordi (tricoter des gilets, crocheter des petits trucs, la patisserie...) je n'étais pas inspirée pour poster sur le blog, surtout que ça prend du temps.

Le seul avantage du temps pourri est qu'on peut encore porter ce qu'on a tricoté pour l'hiver, mais on aimerait bien aller tricoter sur un banc du park !!!

Smocking needles and hooks

Long time no see... but it's mostly because I knit and crochet, but then I don't have much to say.

The big thing this week is that I finally took the challenge of sock knitting. Toe up. Dpns, then circulars with the magic loop. I just love this technique ! I might knit more socks soon...

But for the moment I'm knitting a cardigan for DBF, and he's quite a big man...

En ce moment je tricote... un gilet pour DBF, et c'est un grand costaud, et j'ai relevé le challenge de tricoter des chaussettes à partir des orteils, sur doubles aiguilles puis sur des circulaires, et j'adore ça ! Du coup je pense en faire plus...

Happy zombie Halloween

Here is something typical : Holiday week, loads of stuff planned, and paff. Fever, and bacteriological warfare in my throat. And I never have fever. I spent all yesterday in bed shivering, and I'm a total zombie, and of course my doctor is on holidays too ! Oh well...

There's the tree, I made with fuse beads. And knitted pumpkins, and a ghost.

Voilà un truc typique : c'est les vacances, on prévoit plein de choses, et paf ! fièvre et guerre bactériologique au fond de ma gorge, ce qui me laisse au lit toute la journée et totalement zombie.

An odd knitting toolbox

Not so long ago, DBF and friends and I went to the "Micromania gameshow". Micromania is a videogames chain of shops like Gamestop, GameStation or Game, but only in France, and they organise events in different towns where we all sit in a movie theater and the show us videogame plays and trailers. And this year we each found a goodie bag with Tshirts and.... a PS Vita Sega case. DBF has a Vita, but I don't, so obviously such a case doesn't seem very useful.

But then I was knitting the bunny, and I started to put the different pieces in it, and my scissors, and needles and stuff, and.... the box for hightech gizmo became a very handy knitting box ! DBF can't believe it !!!

Il y a pas longtemps, avec DBF et des amis on a été au Micromania gameshow (une salle de cinéma remplie de fans de jeux videos qui regardent des gameplays et des bandces annonces de nouveaux jeux,  présentés par Marcus). Et sur ns sièges il y avait des sacs de goodies, des tshirts et... un étui de protection Sega pour PS Vita.

Bon, je n'ai pas la console, contrairement à DBF, mais c'est un bel étui, et comme je tricotais le lapin , j'ai commencé à mettre les morceaux, les ciseaux, etc... dans l'étui.

Et donc finalement, au grand dam de DBF, l'étui hightech est devenu un rangement pratique pour le tricot !!!

Rosie the white bunny

I know everybody is probably thinking about Halloween right now, but in France it isn't a big deal (to DBF's dismay), so I knit.... whatever.

So here is a lady bunny in a fuschia dress, and pink cardigan. The pattern of knits and purls gives a losange design, and french knots were added on the cardigan. The colours are very girly and maybe a bit more Spring like, but the bunny looks very cosy in those clothes.

I plan on making other teddies, this time with plush yarn, but for the moment I try to focus on my knitted vest. I'm knitting the hood, and it seems to take forever !!! But I can't leave it unfinnished now !!!

I might make something for Halloween, but it might end up being just a new outfit for lady bunny here.

Je sais que pas mal de gens ont surtout Halloween en tête (surtout dans les pays hors de la France, au grand dam de DBF), mais bon, je ne fais pas les choses dans l'ordre.

Donc voici un lapin en rose, plutôt d'inspiration printanière même si en fait elle a l'air bien au chaud dans ces vêtements.

La rose et le pull ont un motif losange grâce aux points endroit/envers, etj'ai rajouté des points de noeud sur le pull.

Je compte faire encore des doudous, mais en laine peluche cette fois-ci, mais je me concentre d'abord sur ma veste. J'en suis à la capuche, et cela semble prendre des heures et des heures à faire. Mais je ne peux pas laisser ma veste dans cet état !!!

Je ferai peut être quelque chose pour Halloween, mais cela sera surement juste un nouvel habit pour le lapin...

The challenge cardigan

Everything started with my favourite hoodie going in the washing machine one time too much. It's still ok, to wear, but I doubt it would live much longer.

I felt that as a knitter and crocheter, I should make my own, but I never made a jumper before, and all my projects are small. I fear that a whole jumper would get boring quickly.

But then I came across this pattern. I know it's originally for a little girl, but the pattern itself is very adaptable. Plus it's knitted all in one go, So I wanted to start straight away. Problem is that it was 7am, and I had to wait till the wool shop opens at 10am. But it's summer, so I was home at 11am, without having to fight the market crowd or anything.

It's knitted straight, but on circular needle because of the raglan increase. And because I have to handle the whole front, back and sleeves at once, I'm using 2 circular needles already.

Here is how it looks after 1 day of knitting :

Knitted mitts

It's been ages.... I haven't been inactive craft wise, but blogging isn't as fun as it used to be.... And now that I have two blogs (same blog, different languages) it's even harder to find the motivation.

Here are gloves I made last month. My mom has lost one of the fingerless/mitts I made for her for Christmas, so as I was in a knitting phase, I decided to try the Urban Necessities pattern for her.

Because she has bigger hands than me, DBF is modelling them.

Then I made myself some lacy fingerless gloves from the "Jane Austen knits" magazine, just because I thought they were cute.

Preparing for Christmas

I'm quite productive at the moment, but I fail to post the items, as usual. I want to direst you to my Craft gallery in Picasa. There you will find the pictures full size, with technical details and sources of pattern.

I made some candle holders with tatted edgings. By request from Michelle, I took a picture of them with candles in. Actually they are fake tea lights ! I think I will have to glue some of the lace.

J'ai été assez productive ces derniers temps, mais évidemment j'en oublie de poster sur ce blog ! Notez que vous pouvez retrouver toutes les photos, grandeur nature et avec tous les détails techniques ou de modèle dans ma galerie Picasa.


Pour commencer, voici les photophores en frivolité que j'ai fait. Je vais devoir en coller certains, car ça glisser ! J'ai aussi pris une photo en situation, avec des lampes/bougies éléctriques.

As Christmas is approaching, I was able to buy some balls. So I tried to tat a ball decoration. I think I'll have to glue that too. What do you think? Have you tatted some of those ball already? How do you finish them?

Comme Noel approche, j'ai pu acheter des boules de Noel, et donc essayer de les décorer avec de la frivolité. Cette fois encore je pense que je vais devoir coller....

And here are a few other tatted things, and a knitted tree. I tested using diluted PVA glue to stiffen snowflakes and tatted motifs, and it seem to work so far. I also try to design a mini tatted tree, the first one is a bit small I think. Next I will try with red beads.

Enfin voici d'autres bidules en frivolité, et un mini sapin en tricot. J'ai essayé de durcir les étoiles de Noel et autres décos avec de la colle PVA diluée, et jusqu'à présent cela parait marcher pas mal. Je tente de créer un mini sapin en frivolité, mais je pense que celui-ci est un petit peu trop petit. Le suivant aura des perles rouges.

Happy Halloween !!!!

Halloween is a mistreated event here in France. Most people call it "just commercial", because we didn't go trick or treating as kids (For us it was boring cemetary visits on Nov 1st, often under the rain, for All Saints day) and we discovered Halloween on american tv shows. But I think it's just a return to a deep and ancient tradition, I love pumpkins ;)

Halloween is a serious matter for DBF. He loves monsters and horror, and any excuse for eating sugar and watching horror movies is good. So we decorated, and I made this little pumpkin from this pattern.

This year I'm actively making Christmas stuff and pouches for the Christmas fair, so I felt the urge of making something just for us. And Halloween related !!!

I knitted a lot, as you can see, my tree of snowmen is getting very crowded !!!!

And here is a picture of the owl media socks I'm making. I love owls. Knitting is neat, the socks adapt to any phone size !!!

Je sais qu'on ne fait pas Halloween en France, et que certains râlent contre ce jour commercial, mais pour DBF, c'est important, il aime les monstres et les horreurs. Donc on a décoré, et ce soir ce sera film d'horreur et crêpes.


Je suis entrain de tricoter encore et encore pour le marché de Noel, donc j'ai voulu faire une pause, et j'ai fait cette citrouille avec ce modèle. Il faut bien se détendre un peu ;)


D'ailleurs, regardez mon arbre plein de bonshommes, il commence à déborder ! 


Et voici aussi une photo des pochettes hibou pour les smartphones (et autres). Ce qui est cool avec le tricot, c'est que la taille s'adapte à tous les appareils !

Getting ready for the Christmas Fair

At the moment I'm actively knitting for the Christmas fair in December. Pouches (and I realised now that I haven't taken pictures of the owl sock I'm making in all colours, that's typical of me), candle holders, and snown people for the Christmas tree.

DBF told me that I have to advertise the venue, so here it is :

I know that for most people this is a long shot, but if you happen to be in the North of France, in Lille, you are welcome to come and say hello. There's a metro station next to the place. Anyway you can just contact me for details ;)

You never know, if you live in England and want to spend a week end Christmas shopping in France, Lille is the place !

Anyway, here are pictures of the snow people and a basket full of pouches I knitted. The tree is an old appetisers presentation (you pick cheese and cherry tomatoes on the branches) from mom, and I think it's perfect for those little guys !

En ce moment mes aiguilles chauffent, vu que je tricote encore et encore pour le marché de Noel. Des pochettes n(et je réalise maintenant que je n'ai même pas eu le temps de faire de photo de mon modèle le plus courant, la chaussette avec le hibou), des photophores et des bonshommes de neige.

Pour l'instant, voici une photo d'un panier plein de pochettes, et d'un arbre de bonshommes. L'arbre est une présentation d'appéritif (on plante du fromage et des tomates cerises sur les branches...) que ma maman m'a donné, et je trouve qu'il est parfait pour mes petits pendouillous !!!

Another owl

It looks like an invasion ! This time I used my usual pouch pattern and added an owl....

C'est l'invasion ! Cette fois-ci j'ai utilisé mon modèle habituel pour les pochettes, et j'ai ajouté un hibou.

First owl on ipod sock

I just had to make this ipod sock from this pattern. I just got obsessed by cable made owls. I don't know if it's because we are close to Halloween or what, but I think they are neat. So I checked different patterns to see how they are made and such. This pattern has the added advantage to be started in double knit, so there is no sewing at all !!!

Je suis accro aux hiboux faits avec des torsades. Halloween approche... Le modèle est ici. Il a l'avantage d'être commencé en "double knit", donc le fond est fermé dès le départ, et il n'y a donc pas de couture à faire du tout !!!

Small items are fast to knit, so.... I have a few pictures to show. First the black pouch, still in the media pouch collection. I just love to knit those.

Then I made fingerless gloves from this pattern. I added fingers just because I love them, so if you want to do the same, I added the explanation on Ravelry. When I showed them to DBF's sister, she didn't take them off, so she's modelling them. As I'm not 300% satisfied with them, I just gave her the mits. It will force me to make new ones ;)

DBF's mom and I should have a stand at the local Christmas market, and that's why I'm making pouches and so. And so she gave me some silver and golden threads for my candle holders. And this means... experimentation again. I have to admit that these days I'm good. I write all the patterns of the objects I make in a notebook. So it's a pleasure to experiment with things.

It was my first time knitting metal thread, but I was lucky. I took my 3mm dpns, and it was the right size for knitting lace. Just a little test to see how many stitches I had to cast on, and I was on my way, trying an easy lace pattern from my notebook. I'm surprised how stretchy the fabric is, when the thread seems a bit coarse....

Les petits objets sont rapides à tricoter, et donc j'ai quelques photos à montrer. D'abord une pochette noire, pour les mecs, quoi ! C'est toujours la collection des pochettes, j'adore les tricoter.


Ensuite j'ai fait ces mitaines. J'ai utilisé ce modèle, et modifiant selon ces lignes (voir Ravelry). Mais j'ai eu le malheur de montrer ces mitaines à la soeur de DBF, qui montre ici les mitaines, et donc j'ai fini par les lui donner, car je ne suis pas satisfaite à 300% (autant dire que ça lui va mieux qu'à moi !!!).


La maman de DBF et moi devrions avoir un stand au marché de Noel local, et c'est donc pour cela que vous me voyez avec des pochettes et des photophores. Et c'est pour ça qu'elle m'a donné des fils métalliques pour mes photophores.


 Ce qui est l'occasion de faire plus d'expérimentations. Après tout, en ce moment je suis une bonne élève : je note dans un cahier tous les modèles que je fais. Et ici j'ai eu de la chance : j'ai pris mes doubles aiguilles de 3mm, et c'était pile la bonne taille pour faire de la dentelle au tricot. Je n'ai eu qu'à ajuster le nombre de mailles à monter, et choisir un modèle de mon cahier. J'ai été étonnée de constater que c'est très élastique, alors que le fil lui-même semble un peu dur...
