Peterhof Gardens

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  It's a bit overcast today so maybe I'll be able to take pictures of my scrapbook layouts today...I have a giant stack that I have finished but not photographed to share here yet, and I don't want to do it when it's full sun because then harsh shadows and glare on the pictures.  Which there's still a bit of glare on the ones I'm sharing today but all I can do is the best I can do...

These layouts are from our visit to Peterhof near St. Petersburg when we visited on a Baltic cruise in 2014.  Peter the Great was happy living in a simple wood cabin, but his ministers insisted he had to have a residence to impress foreign dignitaries, so Peterhof was built and surrounded with extensive gardens.  Our tour didn't take us inside any of the buildings, just through the gardens.

That watch out for pickpockets sign in the lower right just always makes me laugh for some reason.

Today's color palette:  Evening Evergreen, Pale Papaya, Gumball Green, and Dapper Denim.  I made these pages over a year ago and honestly I don't know how I landed on this color palette with these pictures.  I guess it works?

Anyway, that's it for me today.  Ryan has his taekwondo belt test this afternoon and then we're going to dinner at Texas Roadhouse after.  But in the meantime I have to start contacting utilities companies in Colorado to set things up for when we move.  Cheers, y'all!

Metro & Miscellany / Neva River Cruise

Scrappy Monday, y'all.  It is super overcast here in Texas today and the clouds look pretty much the same as in these pictures from St. Petersburg in 2014.

We did a Baltic Sea cruise a couple of months before we moved from the UK back to the States, and we had two days in St. Petersburg.  We joined a tour group to try to see as much as possible since I imagine this is the only time we'll ever visit anywhere in Russia...part of the tour included riding on the St. Petersburg metro system and taking a cruise on the Neva River.  The metro stations are really fancy (check out the mosaic in the top photo on the left page), and we had very quick stops at a few places, so this page is just an amalgam of those stops.  All the pics on the right are from the river cruise, which was very cold and windy--it was drizzling the whole time we were on the boat.

My moody, rainy color palette today:  Pretty Peacock, Mint Macaron, Lost Lagoon, and Whisper White.

That's it for me today, y'all.  Cheers!

Maine: Cadillac Mountain Sunset

Well, today has not gone as expected.  Ryan said he had a sore throat yesterday but seemed fine at bedtime last night...nope he had a fever this morning so he's staying at the house with me today.  And we both conked right back out until 11am!  He's got an appointment this afternoon to check for strep and he's currently cocooned on the couch with my super-soft Baby Yoda blanket and a piece of toast.  Meanwhile I'm eating gummy dinosaurs my friend Krissy sent me :)

Anyway, I need to finish up the last few layouts for the Maine scrapbook, so that's my plan for the next few Scrappy Mondays.  Today I have sunset on top of Cadillac Mountain.

Okay for reals, that Western Sky DSP has been in my hoard stash for over 15 years I am sure, probably close to 20.  I think I started stamping in 2005 and I got this DSP not that long afterwards.  I don't have a whole lot of it left now but it did seem to work for this very clean and simple layout.

Today's color palette is from the DSP:  River Rock (I never thought I'd miss that color, but I really did use it for scrapbooking), Blue Bayou, Soft Sky, Old Olive, and White.  I used the very old stamp set Wanted which coordinates with the paper and has a great Western feel to it.  This isn't my favorite Maine layout, but it gets the job done and not every one can be your favorite.

That's it for me today.  I'm going to go chill out with the kiddo until time for his appointment.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Make a Difference, Rough Edges Alphabets, Wanted
Ink:  River Rock, Blue Bayou, Old Olive, Versamark, Not Quite Navy marker
Paper:  River Rock, Blue Bayou, Old Olive, Thick Basic White, Western Sky DSP
Accessories:  white embossing powder, scalloped circle punch

Maine: Bar Harbor Head Lighthouse

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I hope you had a good holiday last week if you celebrated Thanksgiving.  We were thrilled to have my hubs here for a couple of days, though it was super tough on Ryan when he had to leave again on Saturday.  Starting today, Ryan will be getting back into the school routine and I think that will help until we get to see the hubs again for Christmas.

In the meantime, I have another Maine layout today!

So the hubs and Bennet had gone to this lighthouse on a previous day to take pictures at dawn (see that layout here), and then we all six went out during the day to check it out.  We didn't go inside the lighthouse itself (I'm not sure they allowed people in at all?) but we did clamber around the rocks next to the lighthouse for a while, which Ryan enjoyed because he thinks he's indestructible.  I paired the still-current Nature's Prints stamp set with Seaside Notions, they seem to fit together pretty well style-wise.

Today's color palette:  Pretty Peacock, Night of Navy, Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake, and white.  I chose Pretty Peacock for this layout a while before we found out that it was rejoining the SU! color lineup, so now I don't have to hoard my Pretty Peacock 12x12 cardstock quite so much ; )

Almost time to get Ryan up to get ready for school...hope he's not too angry since he was going to bed late for all of last week.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Make a Difference, Rough Edges Alphabets, Seaside Notions, Nature's Prints
Ink:  Pretty Peacock, Night of Navy, Crumb Cake, Sweet Sorbet, Stampin' Blends in Pretty Peacock, Crumb Cake, and Petal Pink

Maine: Making S'mores

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Ryan and I had a busy day yesterday--we went to the last day of the Texas State Fair with my brother, SIL, and their two kids.  I hadn't been to the fair probably since before the hubs and I got married, so it was like a whole new experience!  Ryan played games and went on a ride or two and we ate all the super unhealthy fried fair foods.  I will admit though, I had a red velvet funnel cake and then my body noped out on trying the fried brownies.  Or fried Oreos.  Or fried Twinkies.

And to continue the sweet treats theme, today's Maine layout is all about the s'mores!

And in my vast scrapbook supply hoard, I have some old stickers of chocolate bars and Hershey's Kisses, so I used some of those on here.  This is maybe my least favorite of the Maine pages, but it gets the job done.

Today's somewhat unusual color palette:  Pale Papaya, Poppy Parade, Shaded Spruce, Chocolate Chip, and white.

Okay y'all, I've got to do my workout and start trying to counteract all of yesterday's poor diet decisions.  But that funnel cake was tasty.  Cheers!

Maine: Dawn at the Lighthouse

Mornin' y'all!  I need to get this post written quickly and then go get ready--it's parent/teacher conference day at Ryan's school.  So here we go with more Maine pages!

Missy had included a dawn trip to a local lighthouse on her itinerary, but of course two small children would have strenuously objected to such a thing, so just Lee and Bennet went out that early to take pics for us.  Not too bad, right?

Today's color palette:  Seaside Spray (appropriate), So Saffron, Garden Green, Evening Evergreen, and Whisper White.

Happy OCTOBER and have a great week!

Maine: Feeding the Animals

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I'm back with more Maine pictures.

After exploring the corn maze, we all had a picnic lunch of PBJs (still Ryan's favorite) and then we got to go on a tractor ride and feed the animals.  As we were still at Homewood Farm, I kept the same Pacific Point page base and the corn-inspired patterned paper.

Same color palette as last time:  Pacific Point, Crushed Curry, Peach Parfait, Poppy Parade, Cucumber Crush, Soft Suede, and Very Vanilla.

Busy week ahead, starting with picture day for Ryan today.  As expected, he's chosen a red Spider-Man shirt to wear.  : )  Have a great day, y'all!

Maine: Corn Maze

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Hope your week is off to a good start.  I'm starting with another Maine scrapbook layout : )

So next up on our Maine adventure, we went to a place called Homewood Farm, where the boys had a great time running around in a (rather muddy) corn maze.  It was a little drizzly that morning, so we had the place to ourselves.  The boys particularly liked getting their hands stamped at various stations in the corn maze (and also getting muddy, because boys).

I knew I wanted to use this particular corn-y patterned paper, so I chose a Pacific Point page base to set off the yellows and oranges in the DSP.  So today's color palette is Pacific Point, Crushed Curry, Peach Parfait, and touches of Poppy Parade, Cucumber Crush, Soft Suede, and Very Vanilla.  I've done similar things on fall pages before, where I used a blue page base to make the warm colors pop.  I think it works, and in this case, the blue ties in to Ryan's blue jacked in the pictures.

Okay, it's just about time to get Ryan off to school.  Cheers!

Maine: Acadia National Park

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  And it looks like it's going to be a rainy Monday, too, which is all to the good if you ask me--the high temperature today is 88 degrees, the first time it's been under 90 in I don't know how long!

So anyway, I'm continuing the Maine adventure for today's scrapbook pages.  Take a look:

I love that Beauty of the Earth DSP, I had to buy another pack of it when it hit the clearance rack as I had used up almost all of the first pack.  (I am a DSP dragon, my hoard is vast!)  When I make a theme album or a series of pages that all go together, I like to use the same alphabet stamps for page titles, and sometimes I use the same DSP pack so the pages feel like they fit together.  I used the Beauty of the Earth DSP and the Make a Difference alphabet on the title page of the album and again on the two layouts today.

I also worked hard to squeeze in as many pictures as I could on my pages, and even cramming in the max number I had a hard time narrowing down my choices.  On our first full day in Maine, we went to Acadia National Park and just had a great time walking around on all the trails, letting the boys run around and enjoying a spectacular fall day.  This was such a great trip.

Today's fall palette is, once again, taken straight from the DSP:  Bumblebee, Cajun Craze, Merry Merlot, Misty Moonlight, Mossy Meadow, Early Espresso, and Whisper White.

Have a great day, y'all.

Church of the Spilled Blood

Scrappy Monday, folks!  And since it's Memorial Day, I thought I'd share a scrapbook layout about a different kind of memorial.

This was one of the churches we visited in St. Petersburg during our 2014 Baltic cruise; after Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in 1881, the Romanov family had the church built on the site of the assassination.  The interior is covered with amazing and beautiful mosaics.

Today's color palette:  Crushed Curry, Cherry Cobbler, Tranquil Tide, Midnight Muse, and Whisper White.  This is when I discovered that all my Midnight Muse markers are dried out.  I haven't invested in the new SU! markers yet, but that is in the plans.

Have a great day, folks.

The Hermitage

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I am (very) slowly starting to prep my craft room for our upcoming move...yesterday I pulled all my needle minders off the filing cabinet and packed them up, and went through all the Paper Pumpkin kits and consolidated things to take with me.  I think I'll send those kits in our unaccompanied baggage so I have something I can do for paper crafting when we get to Texas; most of our stuff will probably take close to two months to arrive.

Anyway, today I have a recent layout to share with you:

You can see the original pictures here and here.  This is from when we spent two days exploring St. Petersburg as part of our Baltic cruise in 2014;  the Hermitage is one of those mega museums where you could spend a month of Sundays there and still not see everything, and we were only there for about two hours.  Still, after a while your brain reaches capacity and says no matter what your eyes look at, it won't remember anything because brain too full.

Today's color palette:  Poppy Parade, Just Jade, Pretty Peacock (I really started using this a lot when we found out it was coming back in the new catalog), Crushed Curry, and white.  So why a red color for the page base?  I laid out all my pictures from this place and several had a lot of red in them, so I picked the red cardstock that matched it the most closely.  Then I went through all the pictures and ended up not using any of the red ones *rolls eyes* but the Poppy Parade page base does contrast nicely with the photos.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Letterpress Alphabet, Rough Edges Alphabet, Artistic Etchings
Ink:  Just Jade, Crushed Curry, Pretty Peacock
Paper:  Poppy Parade, Pretty Peacock, Just Jade, Thick Basic White, Sweet Symmetry DSP, Poppy Parade DSP

Bury St. Edmunds

Scrappy Monday!  We took a quick trip to Colmar, France over the weekend and plan to return in a couple of weeks for their Christmas market.  But since Veterans Day was on Friday, now seems like a good time to share this layout from around Remembrance Sunday in England in 2011.

November 11 is Veterans Day in the US; it's Armistice Day in France, and Remembrance Day in the UK, and originally commemorated the armistice signed on November 11 at the end of World War I.  In 2011, my parents came out to visit mid-November, so there were still poppy decorations set up in Bury St. Edmunds when we took them up there.  That Peaceful Poppies paper and the Poppy Moments dies were perfect accents for this layout.

Today's color palette comes straight from the DSP:  Mossy Meadow, Old Olive, Calypso Coral, Poppy Parade, Basic Black, and Whisper White.

Got a busy week ahead.  Hope yours is off to a good start!

Stamps:  Spencerian Alphabet Upper & Lower, Rough Edges Alphabet, Painted Poppies
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Old Olive, Calypso Coral, Mossy Meadow marker
Paper:  Mossy Meadow, Old Olive, Basic Black, Poppy Parade, Calypso Coral, Thick Basic White, Peaceful Poppies DSP

Hey Paper Players, Knock Knock!

Happy Sunday and there's a new Paper Players challenge coming your way!

This week the theme is courtesy of Ann.  I had to think about it for a while and then this happened:

My son Ryan is five and LOVES knock-knock jokes.  Several times a week, we have this conversation:
Ryan:  Hey Mama, knock-knock!
Me:  Who's there?
Ryan: Boo.
Me:  Boo who?
Ryan: *hysterical laughter*

He also tells other knock-knock jokes that make zero sense but he thinks they're funny.  I taught him the one that goes like this:
Me: Knock-knock!
Ryan: Who's there?
Me:  Banana.
Ryan:  Banana who?
Me:  Knock-knock!
Ryan:  Who's there?
Me:  Banana.
Ryan:  Banana who?
Me:  Knock-knock!
Ryan:  Who's there?
Me:  Banana.
Ryan:  Banana who?
Me:  Knock-knock!
Ryan:  WHO'S THERE!!!
Me:  Orange.
Ryan: *already laughing* Orange who?
Me:  Orange you glad I didn't say Banana?
Ryan:  *more laughing*

So yes I made a card based on a silly knock-knock joke.  The card base (including the watercolor splat) was from a past Paper Pumpkin kit, the one with the silly puns, but even though that kit had bananas in it, I used the Cute Fruit stamps instead.

So now it's your turn!  Make a kid-tastic card and don't forget to keep it CAS, then share your creation at the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Cute Fruit, Rough Edges Alphabets
Ink:  Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake
Paper:  Thick Basic White, card from MPP kit

Who You Gonna Call?

Okay, I shared the Halloween layout from Ryan's baby book on Saturday, so I have to share the layout from my regular chronological scrapbook today!  All the pictures except the two on the right were taken on Halloween.

The two on the right were taken at a Halloween event at Mount Vernon, George Washington's estate.  I think that second picture from the left is hilarious, how Ryan is looking at me like WHAT does she have on her head?!  I made my colander hat myself :D

Today's color palette is Brilliant Blue, Real Red, Old Olive, and Whisper White.  I am running very low on Brilliant Blue cardstock, so it's a good thing I stocked up on Blueberry Bushel before it retired since they're very similar.

The first packers get here one week from today!  Still got a lot to do before they get here...

Cheers, y'all!

Typhoon Shelter #2

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  So on Saturday, my surprise turned out to be lunch with the hubs (always great), and then I got a facial and a detox treatment :)  And THEN he took me to Kohl's and told me he know my clothes didn't fit anymore because I've lost weight, so he told me to get some new ones.  I got two pairs of jeans and several new bras and dang, I'm a lucky lady to be married to him!

So!  Over the weekend I finished scrapbook pages from my 30th birthday (a.k.a. my second 29th birthday) but I haven't taken pictures of them yet so instead, here's our second house in Japan.

They were renovating the houses there so we got moved out of our old one and into a newly-renovated one partway through our time in Japan.  Isn't that patterned paper FANTASTIC?  It's from the See a Silhouette DSP in the current catalog.  We jokingly called our house a typhoon shelter (hence the page title), and I liked that the paper kinda made me think of waves or a typhoon on radar.  Plus it's just gorgeous.

Today's color palette:  Poppy Parade, Pacific Point, Old Olive, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, and Whisper White, which are all colors from that DSP pack though the pattern I used only features the blues.  Oddly enough, I'd chosen the colors before I picked stamps for accents, and the colors worked amazingly well for the stamp with the koi fish.

That's it for me today.  Gotta get shoes on the kiddo and head out to the Y.  Cheers!

Holyrood Palace & Abbey

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Wow, did we have a humdinger of a storm come through in the wee hours of this morning.  I was afraid that Ryan would start crying with all the thunder and wind, but he either slept through it or didn't get scared, so yay!  I was still up early this morning and got in a workout and a bit of cross stitching before anyone else got up.  Oh!  I also did some work on photo organization yesterday so woo on that!

For today's scrapbook offering, I have two more layouts from Edinburgh.  I think these are the last two layouts for that 2012 trip.

See the original pictures here.  I broke out some textured Pale Plum for my page bases, I love it.  I don't have a lot of that Enchante' DSP so I'm trying to make the most of it.  When I do pages from castles or abbeys or whatnot, it's usually a lot of gray in the pictures, so I can play around with all kinds of colors because gray is a neutral and goes with everything.  Except brown.  I don't like gray and brown together.

For example, see the floral pattern on the right page?  It looks like it would be one solid block under the pictures, right?  Nope.  I only had a little bit of it left so I cut creatively so it would show where I want it, but it's scraps under the pictures.  I also used a full sheet of that striped pattern between the two layouts.  Not like I don't have an enormous patterned paper collection.

Today's color palette is straight out of the DSP:  Pale Plum, Perfect Plum, Certainly Celery, Sage Shadow, and Very Vanilla.  All of the colors are retired except the Vanilla.  I wouldn't put the two greens together on my own, but they do seem to work here in combination with the purples.

Hope you have a great week, y'all.  Cheers!

Russian Selfies

Scrappy Monday everyone!  It's a gray day here, pretty chilly and we're expecting rain this afternoon, so I chose a gray layout to share today but it's one that makes me giggle.

See my original blog post here, I pretty much copied what I wrote on that for my journaling here.

Today's color palette includes Basic Gray, Daffodil Delight, Cucumber Crush, Night of Navy, and Whisper White.  I think I subconsciously put green and yellow on at least half of my scrapbook layouts now...I blame Missy! ;)

Cheers, y'all!

Yusupov Palace

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Hope your week is off to a good start.  I'm starting the week with a layout from the St. Petersburg part of our 2014 Baltic cruise:

See the original pics here.  Yusupov Palace is now perhaps most famous as being the site of the murder of Rasputin.  The conspirators poisoned him and he didn't die, then shot him and he still managed to run out of the house before being shot in the courtyard, and then they bundled him up in a rug and disposed of the body in the Neva River.  See the mannequins in the two far left pictures?  They're reenacting the crime!  (The poisoning part, not the bloodier shooting part.)

I did a two-toned title again, using sponge daubers to ink up the letters in Delightful Dijon and Early Espresso and only on a scrapbook page would dijon and espresso go together because as foods that would be ick.  Anyway, I wish I'd managed to grab another pack or two of the Moroccan DSP when it went on clearance, I love that paper so I'm trying not to hoard it by using it on some scrapbook pages.

Today's color palette:  Not Quite Navy, Delightful Dijon, So Saffron, Early Espresso, and Very Vanilla.  And some fantastic patterned paper.

Well, I'm off to start my week right with a trip to the gym.  Cheers, y'all!

Kronborg Castle

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  How about we start our week with a Danish castle!

I shared my Copenhagen layout a while back, so here's the other layout from Denmark.  Hubs and I took a train from Copenhagen to Elsinore (Helsingor) to visit Kronborg Castle, which is identified with the castle in Hamlet (though curiously the castle in the play is named after the town near Kronborg Castle, and not the castle itself).

I used Island Indigo for the page base, and that is one of the retiring core colors that I will really miss.  I used it for scrapbook pages more than cards, maybe partially because I do so many color challenges for cards but I always choose my own colors for scrapbook pages.  I love that floral pattern from the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP pack...doesn't necessarily go with the castle theme, so let's pretend those are the flowers that Ophelia was playing with in Hamlet :)

Here is today's color palette:  Island Indigo, Tangerine Tango (also retiring), Cajun Craze, Basic Black, and Very Vanilla.

Hope your week is off to a great start.  Cheers, y'all!

St. Isaac's Cathedral

Sooooo I was planning to make a card yesterday to post today, but instead I knuckled down and worked on that honeymoon album a bit.  Once I do some journaling and a wee bit of stamping, I'll have three more layouts completed for it which means only FIVE more left!  Woo.

So anyway, how's about some more scrapbook pages today!

Wow, that picture is crooked.  Tilt your head to the right ;)  Pictures are from another cathedral in St. Petersburg that we visited when we went on our Baltic cruise in 2014 (wow, three years ago already!).  See them close up here.  My favorite thing in this cathedral was the malachite columns, which you can see behind me in the picture on the bottom of the right page, so I decided to highlight them a bit by making my page base Emerald Envy.  And then that led me to the Moroccan DSP, which is retiring along with the Moroccan Nights stamp set.  Get that stamp set ASAP, I love it!  I'm sure it will make several more appearances in my scrapbook pages.

My title today is brought to us by the long-retired Letterpress and Rough Edges alphabets.  There's no apostrophe in the Letterpress Alphabet set, so I stamped the dot from the exclamation point (also used for the period), and then drew in the tail to make the apostrophe.

Some stamped accents to match the patterned paper.

I took the color palette directly from the Moroccan DSP:  Emerald Envy, Dapper Denim, Delightful Dijon, Early Espresso (I know it looks black, but it's not), and Very Vanilla.

Sounds like the kiddo wants his next bottle, so I'd better scarf down the rest of my breakfast so I can take care of him.  Cheers, y'all!
